"On the back of a 5-1 win against Arsenal, why can't Spurs remain consistent?" The reason being that consistency would have meant going to Old Trafford with a tired team playing a refreshed champions in top for would have meant us winning by 3 or 4 clear goals again. Tottenham played quite well and the game was in the balance for the majority of the 90 minutes until a poor defensive mistake and goalkeeping error. This was not inconsistency, it was a very tough tie where we were slightly tired (certainly more so than the opposition) and had a bit of bad luck and mistakes. Tottenham still found themselves in a match where they may have gained a draw or a win with the reverse of that luck (regardless of whether such a result would have been regarded as lucky or undeserved or not). Ultimately, we still tried, showed quality and created chances. This was not a bad performance or a sign of inconsistency, just a loss.

man u were a bit better than us. a bit more assured and not as sloppy.we need to be more clinical. we are making big improvements under ramos, but have a way to go yet. i cant wait until he has a few of his own players in... COYS

It's not a case of consistency... we should have put our chances away, and as Jenas had the majority of them, therein lies the problem. Although he played well yesterday, he should have converted the two chances that came his way. We were very very unlucky, and unlike Wenger's claims, in this instance the score does not TRULY reflect the game.

Consistency has got nothing to do with yesterdays game. You expect Man U to have the lions share of the possession at home in particular but we did ourselves proud. At least we tried to play football and if it had only been for Jenas's missed oppurtunities either side of the break and the foot of the post we could have come away with at least a draw. I dont think this is a reflection of consistency at all just a bit of luck at the right time. Well done to united and i hope you stuff the arsescum in the next round.

We lost because united are a better team than us, we played some blinding football but never matched them for quality in the vital areas. As a team we are improving by the day but we need the addition of a few players, united dont need those additions, they are already one of the top 4 teams in the world.
by Jim Dalley on January 28, 2008
Just a comment for thought - Consistancy requires that you are able toplay & field the smae team. Against United Spurs payed with 3 midfield players playing in the back 4 for the last 22 mins, and United still struggled to break us doen. Ronaldo was made to look ordinary by a 21year old midfiled player and had to switch to the other flank (18 year old playing his 2nd game) to finally score on a shot that should have been saved
by A typical gooner on January 28, 2008
but if it was us we would blame the pitch, a sending off, Manure always get penaulties and Ronaldo being a cheat.
by Greeny on January 28, 2008
the difference was the finishing, I'm not a Jenas basher but if he would've taken the two chances (although one was a good save from a good keeper) it could've been a different story, and but for the width of a post we could've had a replay. Also silly mistakes were our undoing, Dawson mistiming his header then the silly handball. We also defended too deep when we were 1-0 up instead of trying to take the game to utd and get the second goal. again a mistimed jump costs us as Giggs layed the ball off for Tevez to fire home. We are definately heading in the right direction, a solid display from young platers such as O'Hara, Huddlestone and Lennon and it seems there is more defensive cover on the way and already in one wembley final, things are looking up

Has anyone seen Jermaine Jenas. Last spotted playing brill against Arsenal, but once again missing in action v United.

We consistently play well against United and fail to win, this has been going on for a fair few seasons, and I'm sure it will continue. United are a great team who were eminently beatable yesterday, I thought they looked jaded and off form. They had a fair amount of pressure, but for Dawson's buffoonery they would have struggled to get a result. Why is it that he looks so assured alongside King, but as soon as King is out of the team he goes very quickly to muppet status? He wasn't like that last season, was he?
by David M Kirby on January 28, 2008
It was an entertaining game and Spurs played well and certainly had their chances, which on another day would have been tucked away. Utd, however, should not be complacent and should be aware that there are cracks in their defence. I think Chelsea, as they are playing at the moment are better than them and also Arsenal. When they beat Spurs a few games back they completely outplayed Spurs, who at best got a couple of half-chances.

cant believe you lot are getting on jenas back again, it was a good performance all round which could have easily resulted in a draw. Ask a true united supporter that actually goes to regular matches and they will tell you that our performance was one of the best away team performances at old trafford this season! we have come on leaps and bounds since Ramos took over, unfortunately alot of spurs fans are expecting miracles!
by Crossy on January 28, 2008
I think you will find that Jenas was knackered yesterday. He covered so much ground and worked so hard Tuesday that it affected him yesterday. Another point...did anyone else think the biggest club ground in the country has one of the worts pitches in top flight football? Looks more like a training ground then premier league pitch! Fair play to the lads yesterday...hey gave it their all and on another day could have got at least a draw. Good luck to Utd, they took their chances and we can't grumble. Just look forward to reversing the scoreline on Saturday back at the Lane.....COYS

O HARA HAD RONALDO IN HES POCKET...WHAT DO OTHER COYS THIN ABOUT O HARA AT LEFT BACK???? SOUND GOOD OPTION TO ME, HUDD AT BACK LACKIN EXPERIENCE, FAIL PLAY TO MAN TOOK THERE CHANCE BUT AGAIN MAN U DINT BEAT US WE BEAT OUT SEFL ONCE AGAIN WE LOST NOT THEY WON... COYS ALL WAY
O'hara looks a promising youngster but is to lightweight to play that kind of role. If we want to critisise anyone of our players it has to be berbatov. If it wasnt for his flair and ability everyone would be on his back for the way he waves his arms about sulking instead of trying to win the ball back everytime either he or the team loses the ball, also he seems to miss his fair share of sitters and bearing in mind he is a striker, should get more stick than jenas!
by Jonny on January 28, 2008
And a draw wouldn't have been unjust. And considering you were without King, and less rested than us, a great performance. That said, we didn't play partic well, and Vidic is pretty much the rock of our defence, without him Rio always plays s****er too. But all said and done, we are the best team in England and you gave us a great game, that could have gone either way, so you are defo moving in the right direction under Mr Ramos, I look forward to you beating Chelsea for us in the league, no need to worry about the Gooners, they'll fade like a cheap tan.
I'm sorry but the man is a genius, he and King are the only world class players we have in the squad. Whether or not he tracks back isn't the point. He's a striker so needs to stay fairly central, especially as Keane runs so much. With out his flicks, movement and insightful passing we wouldn't have created much. The man is a genius, he's worth the admission price alone. It's a shame he'll be leaving in the summer, if not before, as I could watch him in a Spurs shirt every week. If anyone doesn't like him, they can give me their ticket as I'm more than happy to watch the man in action.... There is no one in the Premier League like him, Ronaldo may be more effective and by far the best player this season, but Berbatov has something else about him....Witness his second against Reading...
by rEd Or DeAd on January 28, 2008
When the spurs were 1-0 up, why were they resorting to sticking 11 men in their own half?? Just invited trouble onto themselves with Lennons numerous aimless clearences...
by coys on January 28, 2008
why not give mr sulk some stick... in fact in last few games he lost control an gave away possision jus as any others, if he done easy ball instead of harder choices he might not losee the ball as much, expected mor from hes against man u though....coys all way
by Andy Hill on January 28, 2008
Whats the point of this article.Manutd are the champs. We werent at full strength.vidic, neville, saha are out.but anywayz we didnt need to play our best, for wat?we have much harder tasks ahead,(treble!).arrogance eh!hehe what do u expect from the greatest team ever!
by spurts on January 28, 2008
we are losers
greatest team ever and ferguson was genuinely relieved to have beaten us. proves we are going in the right direction
by Jon on January 29, 2008
Only Spurs can can console yourselves with a "we played good but lost, so nevermind." Winners win and to them belongs the smug faces. Loosers loose and who cares if you played well - you;re still a looser. Get that right, Spurs fans. Until you can come to Old Trafford and win, dont even think about being a good team. Take a leaf out of Chelsea's book - play like crap, get 3 points and along with that, 2 championships and loads of other silverwear.
by Deon on January 29, 2008
Typical of a Spur fan to write this rubbish... we should have, could have, THIS AND THAT blah blah blah your just not good enough! GET IT INTO YOUR HEADS you are not in the league of man utd or Arsenal (l'm talking full strength) not playing half the reserve team and gloating as if youve won the Champions league yet I mean Carling Cup. LOL.
by n.n on January 29, 2008
Yes a massive gulf of class, that's why spurs will be no more UEFA cup hopefuls. Shame I was hoping spurs would meet Arsenal so we could show what a near full strength Arsenal could do as opposed to a half strength one.

For the most part, how Spurs played against ManU is how they consistently play. The odd game, regardless of who Arsenal put on the pitch, was the Arsenal game -- 6 chances, 5 goals, no stupid defensive lapses. That was so unlike the consistently mediocre Spurs of 07-08. St. Totteringham's Day might yet come in February this year.
by Bemused on January 31, 2008
What kind of loser article is this? You claim that you can accept any defeat, but the article reeks of bitterness and whines. Please. Since when was a penalty less of a goal then a so-called well-taken goal? No one asked Dawson to cheat by smacking the ball away and pretending to fall at the same time. Anyone else can write an article saying, if that pass was slightly more accurate, if Scholes shot slightly better, if someone marked Keane more tightly, Utd would have trashed Spurs. But of course not, that's how the game went, Spurs lost, that's it. You don't earn points for being close to beating Utd, if that's what you're implying. If this, if that. Give us a break!
