Ghana has been the focal point of the Africa Cup of Nations over the past two or three weeks, so let me tell you about some of the highlights:

Alberto Manucho: The Angolan obviously does not have total control of the ball at the moment but there was never a time in this tournament when he did not look dangerous. I can definitely see why Sir Alex Ferguson has tied him to a three-year contract. He is going to be a revelation for Manchester United in seasons to come. And as an Arsenal fan, I am a little worried.

Colours: Only in Africa can a half-full stadium produce such colour, imagination and a day full of festivities. The organisers should have done a lot more to guarantee more people would show up for the games. But this is Africa, where most people make about $1 a day. Organisers certainly need to drop ticket prices to encourage fans.

Ivory Coast: While I have been impressed with Ghana and Egypt, the Ivory Coast iare certainly the best team at this tournament. It seems they could produce a second-string team that could easily get into the quarter-finals. The game against Egypt should be the best of the tournament. Two years ago, the Pharaohs were victorious in the final match with 70,000 fans to push them to the limit. It was a match the Ivory Coast should have won easily, had it not been for the wasteful efforts of Didier Drogba and, to a lesser extent, Kolo Toure.

Angola: For me, Angola have been the surprise packet of the tournament. But we shouldn't be surprised since they were at the last tournament, and they also put up a decent display at the World Cup. With a little more talent, I think Angola could have beaten Egypt, but you could see the quality of players was definitely the difference between the two teams. Angola showed much progress and I cannot wait to see what they will produce on home soil in two years' time.

Disappointments: I could write four pages on which teams were a total disappointment in Ghana. There are certainly a few -  Senegal, Nigeria, South African and even Cameroon come to mind. I know Cameroon have qualified for the semi-finals, but they are known in Africa for representing the beautiful game, with power and skilful displays. I doubt I have seen the current Cameroon team put a string of five good passes together. The ball is constantly punted upfield in the hope that Samuel Eto’o will produce some magic for the team. I can't see them beating Ghana, even with their lack of quality goalscorers. Kameni, Alex Song and Eto'o are their only quality players at the moment. This team certainly need to rebuild for the World Cup in two years' time.

Nigeria: Total garbage! It seems Nigerian football has taken a turn for the worse. We can only pray the Under-17 team will be mature enough to represent Africa at the 2010 World Cup. Where are the Daniel Amogachis, Jay Jay Okochas and Sunday Olisehs of Nigerian football today? I remember those days. The Super Eagles of the 90s were total entertainers. For 130 million people, Nigeria should be one of the best teams on the continent every time they walk on the pitch.

Until the next time, Long Live African Football!
