Give Capello a year as England boss, then let's judge him

The Italian's first effort was a bit tepid and stale but, hey, look what happened after Steve McClaren got off to a flying start.

    Wednesday's result - England 2 Switzerland 1 - was as tepid and stale as we have become used to. But who cares? Don't let the 'meeja' sway you - this match was merely a televised training session. Steve McClaren won 4-0 in his first game and look what happened to him. He was reduced to cowering in a toilet, eyes clamped shut, praying for success, and even when the Toilet Gods showed mercy on him and gave him the result he needed, he still mucked up the Croatia game.

    In my first year at Uni I was told that the name of my work would count towards my final degree. One whole year of lascivious student living followed. This England team is in the same boat. They all know that this game meant nothing, even for their own futures. Granted, a solid performance would have been useful for some players to put their abilities under Capello's nose, but unless they literally defecated in their own shorts and lay weeping in the foetal position in the centre circle, they are unlikely to be ruled out.

    The snide, bitchy floodgates opened up after the game, attacking Capello's formation (in my opinion the formation was a masterstroke), his decision not to bring Michael Owen on (again, a brilliant move), and the result - which everyone knew was guaranteed before anyone had even kicked a ball.

    The man for the job does not exist.The problem with our national team is OUR expectations are not realistic.The teams that play in our PL are not a reflection of our true ability.We still think that we are on a par with Croatia Holland Germany Brazil Argentina France Portugal Spain but the truth is We are not and have'nt been for decades where we still live.....in the past.Our nations are the geordies of the international football world.Always blaming someone else for failure.Sven was the best manager we have ever had and just look at what hes done to Man City.The press are hating it for they falsley crusified him and you lot The public bought into their lies and manipulations.It will be many years if not decades till we can compete with the top 10 in the world...why?...the African nations are waking up! and they have real fight in their hearts.... real fight!!

    You are spot on knower! we are even at the same level as scotland when it comes to football ability( no insult intended you jocks)but its true if they had beaten italy they would have been above us in the rankings!Hey they even beat France twice at home and in France.We can't even compete with france who in the last decade alone have won a world cup and a european championship and another world cup final.The scots for christ sake beat them!!! we can't beat them in a friendly.In the coming decade England will struggle to stay in the top 20 of world football.
