As world famous West Ham fan Michael Jackson once warbled in an overly saccharine and very weird song called 'Gone Too Soon':
“Like A Rainbow Fading In The Twinkling Of An Eye, Gone Too Soon. “Shiny And Sparkly And Splendidly Bright, Here One Day, Gone One Night.”
Ahem! West Ham have a clutch of young chicks that they must wish had stayed at the club, players like Rio Ferdinand, Jermain Defoe, Frank Lampard, Glen Johnson, and Joe Cole. Indeed, if you brought all West Ham’s stars home to roost, they would have an extremely strong squad of English stars. 'If you brought all West Ham’s stars home to roost, they would have an extremely strong squad of English stars'Arsene Wenger recently revealed similar opinions about ex-Arsenal bright thing David Bentley, saying that he had the quality to play for Arsenal, but he wouldn’t be a permanent fixture in the side. Many Arsenal fans I have spoken to were astounded when he left, but they aren’t exactly short of young talent at the Emirates. So who are the players that you think your club let go too soon? Few Everton fans would claim that their bullish young striker Wayne Rooney left at the right time, and they could have got far more mileage out of his notoriously brilliant skills. Who could forget the first goal of his professional career, tossing the ball over David Seaman like a vandal’s brick.
Perhaps the view that players should hold more than a mere veneer of loyalty is as dated as the idea of dropping money in a player’s shoe when he has played well. Whatever the case, which player do you miss most? Who do you hate to see in another team’s shirt? Which player was the one that got away?

Diarra, the Unicorn headed one was destined to be Arsenal's Makele

Anelka..Real sulk though..WASTED his entire career by not staying at one club.. I think Diarra will come back to haunt us, in spite of him being such an insufferable twat..

Wish Anelka hadn't been such a twat...imagine how good he would have been had he stayed at Arsenal!

I think last season would not have been the disaster it turned out to be if Pires had been retained. The makings of the tremendous young team we have this year was for all to see. They just needed a bit more experience to help them along when the going got tough. I think Pires would have provided that for them; Henry did not

What are you lot on about... Anelka is crap... Chelsea could do better with playing DJ campbell up front... The only good thing about him (Anelka).. Is the money we (Arsenal) made.......!!!!!! :)
Bentley still wouldn't get into our team, and I love the fact that he still can't get over being an Arsenal reject. I wonder if he'll ever stop talking about us in interviews? I for one am glad he was booed at Ashburton Grove

Take the point about Rooney -it would have been great if he'd stayed AND we'd had the money to build a team around him. Sadly it took the money from his sale to change us into top 6 contenders.

He was obviously going to be quality - can't believe gorgeous george got only £750k for him - honourable mentions to Michael Thomas and Rocky Rocastle. More recently - shouldn't have sold upson or bently, but can live without them

Bentley is a crap player at the level of upper middle Premier League football(Everton, Villa, Pompey etc) who is only good enough to get into one of the least skillful National teams in the World. He would get a bench place at most at Arsenal. Anelka was great...

Was sad to see Joe Cole go, delighted to see Lampard and Defoe go, never thought much of Lamps and still don't and Defoe is a mercenary in my opinion and i'm sure most west ham fans will agree even though i'm saying it nicely. The player i think we really missed and was unsung at west ham was geordie boy Michael Carrick. With his presence we were always a threat as we always pushed up the field that much further. I'm among the growing army of West Ham fans that want to see a prospect called Freddy Sears get a run out asap, he's scoring for fun in england under 19s and in our youth and reserve teams. with our current striker dilemna, why not bring him on as sub late on a few times Curbs, we love that sort of thing as you know.

Gregor Rasiak, oh how I would love to see the sexy beardsley on stilts don the lilly whites shirt just one more time!
by Essexian76 on February 14, 2008
Its has to be Souness, who went on to be an all time great (player). More recently I'd say Carrick, but how can you stop a player who wants to get honours for nothing!
by Stan on February 14, 2008
Sol Campbell. In the last couple of season when we had finnished 5th perhaps, just perhaps, him in a partnership with ledley my have given us those extra few points we needed, hey but never mind thats footy for ya. On top of him (no joke there), Carrick, Sherringham, Crouch, Klinsman, Souness, Hoddle

Freddie Kanoute. Why did Jol ship out Kanoute and keep that fat lump, Mido? In season 2004-05, Kanoute was outstanding as a target man for Spurs. He was the fulcrum of all our attacking play. He didn't score as many goals as perhaps he might. But he laid on loads of goals for his team mates. Quick, intelligent, unselfish and skillful. He had a languid style that wasn't appreciated by some, who mistook it for laziness. But I wish he had stayed to play alongside Berbatov. Would have been an awesome partnership. I've never seen anyone better at bringing down a high ball with instant control. And he's gone on (at Sevilla) to prove just how good he could have been for Spurs. P.S. Stan - we didn't let Campbell go. He left of his own accord.

Wish that certain players had realised what they were involved in. Petit was world class alongside Vieira, Anelka just does not care about football like supporters do, Overmars was unbelievably quick, Pires should have stayed, and Cashley....actually, its funny that he is now the 2nd best left back at Chelski!
