Could these five Liverpool players cost Rafa his job?
The Norwegian, along with Charles Itandje, Dirk Kuyt, Harry Kewell and Fabio Aurelio, are all way out of their depth. It's time for a spring clean at Anfield before more embarrassments occur.

Not wishing to add more flak to Liverpool but as a season ticket holder and lifelong fan I feel something just needs to be said.
Some of this side and squad are just not good enough – we all know who they are, but for those who need convincing here are the main culprits.
John Arne Riise is way past his best at the club. I used to be a big fan of the Norwegian but it seems his time at Anfield is nearing its end. After over 300 games at the club I think we should sell him to anyone who will give us a good price.
Charles Itandje is a joke in goal. The former Lens player seems to have little or no confidence and scares the hell out of his own defenders who clearly see him as a disaster. Even as cover for the great Pepe Reina he isn’t good enough. I seriously doubt he is even worthy of the Premier League. I truly believe he may be the worst keeper ever to play for the club and for the life of me I don’t know how he gets a game, even in the FA Cup. Rafa, it’s time to flog this dead horse.

At least have the decency to learn how to spell ITANDJE.

Agree 100% Would also add Finnan to that list, age has caught up to him and does not have pace to cope with tricky wingers anymore. Alonso.. If someone will offer 15-20 million snap their hands off. Has been injured for most part but time to cash in as Stevie and Macherano are the first choice pairing in the middle with Lucas as understudy Crouch. For all the times he gets chances and heads the ball to the keeper surely we could do better buying an average target man and score more goals Pennant.. his crosses are not accurate enough and good attacking play always breaks down when he has the ball.. YNWA Would prefer to see players like Gamst Pedersen on the left instead of Kewell and Babbel, who should get his chance next season up front.

How can Liverpool fans be happy with Benitez.Never the same team twice,no cohesion, no consistency in team selection, strikers given no long run in the side so no confidence, `Big` players relied on to get them back in a game, fantastic players like Babel playing a bit-part etc. No-one wants these foreign owners but take yer head out of the sand, RAFA picks sides that don`t win games, not the Yanks ergo RAFA IS TO BLAME-easy!C,mon BORO

Sorry Liverpool fans but either the board or Rafa Benitez has to go. Personally I think both should go, the board have been unprofessional in their dealings with Rafa and Rafa's strange rotation policy and his poor signings over the past couple of years have been poor, Im all for giving a manager time, but you have to draw the line somewhere!
by ham shanks on February 17, 2008
the problem is that he never plays the same team twice. The squad are strangers to each other. Ironically this is the strongest squad we've had in years but until he starts playing a settled team and pattern then it doesn't matter who he plays

From the outside looking in, and it has to be said with a certain amount of joy i have watched Mr Benetiz turn what was a half decent Huollier team that he won the ECL with into a team of about 3 players and has spent app £150m to do so. In the past you could always look at the Liverpool squad because of the money they have had and see 3 4 5 players that would get into most teasm in the premier league, as it stands right now your probably looking at Gerrard( who lets be honest here does pick his games) Torres and carragher who is gettin on a bit now but apart from those 3 I just dont rate the rest better than half decent.
by Brian Galea on February 17, 2008
100% contrary to Rafa's rotation. A player needs matches to gain confidence. I would add Arbeloha to the list & for the record most players in 2005 CL triumph were Hullier's regime.

I had been restraining myself from criticising my beloved team and the manager. However, after yesterday's debacle, I personally think the manager has to go. Maybe, with him leaving will jolt the players into realisation that they have been crapped all year. Yes, we can use the excuse of problems that we have and whatever, but, it seemed that the was no pride displayed by our players. As an oversea's fan ( I am from Malaysia ), I do not know what is actually going on in the dressing room, but, I felt like crying after the game yesterday. Crouch was crapped the whole game. His heading looked like somebody who is 166cm like me against someone who is 180cm. Kuyt, yeah he scored and work hard, but, the first touches were terrible. Kewell..need I say more. JAR, my God...did he attending training at all? Thye dare calling themselves professional players??????? Someone PLEASE STOP THE ROT..............

board and benitez definitely should go. we will NEVER, and i mean NEVER, win the premier league with benitez, and the yanks are tight, dont know what they are doing, and go about everything in the wrong way. a clearout needs to happen, but i would say there are more than the mentioned five. as well as those five, hyypia, finnan, alonso, benayoun and voronin maybe. the squad needs trimming anyway as its too big and not enough quality. we only need 4 or 5 quality players in and 9 or 10 out. we will be 4 players down, but there will be more quality and less rotating. the more money benitez has, the more poor buys and more rotating there will be. in the case of a serious injury crisis, im sure a young starlet can fill in, ie like fabregas at arseanl. now look at him, he was 16 when he made his debut, rafa doesnt give youth a chance. im sick of fans saying we should have faith with him, my patience has worn too thin with and i dont know why anyone still has faith in him.

Can't agree with Itandje and Aurelio, I think Itandge is a 'decent' backup, and Aurelio is class, just not had a lot of luck with injuries. He is definitely a bargain on a free - when he gets fit. But I wholeheartedly agree with the Kewell, Kuyt and Riise comments. Having Harry Kewell in the team is making me sick, what a liability.

Rafa should have gone after the Reading game. He has been told (certainly by us if not the board) time and time again that the league is the priority, but he threw in the towel in a game we could have got something out of and would have been within 2 games of the top of the league. Predictably, as Liverpool's big performers only wanted the league this season (even if their manager doesnt see it as the top priority), the squad threw in the towel after that, depressed that the manager cares more about his european reputation than the fans getting it in the neck from bluenoses every week about drawing against Wigan at home, and once again every team in the league started their fightback against us like they did in the bad old days. At least if we had thrown the kitchen sink at Reading and lost, we may have taken pride from the game instead of humiliation. Reading have picked up about 3 points since - they weren't in form, they are an average team that couldnt believe their luck. Both dips in form in our season have been in response to Benitez craziness - resting Torres against portsmouth (why? the bad results following that meant he had to play him when not fit and we lost him for 2 months. So much for rotation to keep players fit)and throwing in the towel against reading (if we'd have lost with pride do you think our run of results after that would have been so bad? Certainly english teams wouldnt have played us with as much confidence as they did). As a result of these bad premiership decisions, and the many similar decisions made previously, he should go and we should invest in the flair down the flanks that we so clearly lack. Riise, finnan, crouch, kuyt, voronin, aurelio, kewell and pennant should be sacrificed to shake the squad up, and they should be replaced with two high quality wingers, such as quaresma and drenthe. Play Babel up front with Torres. Warnock could have been our full back for 10 yrs instead of being sold for a couple of million so we'll have to find a new left back. There isn't an outstanding candidate in the premiership so scouting overseas would be required. I would persist with Arbeloa in the interim, covered by Agger when fit. At right back, I would offer Eriksson alonso for richards and he might just bite. He might. If alonso wont go, offer him crouch and riise and again he might wobble. Particularly if liverpool look like they are going somewhere and Richards agitates. Benitez also needs to realise that 2 draws are worse than one win and one defeat. I honestly don't believe he thinks that. Honestly. I would love to hear a journalist ask that. If United are drawing at home in the second half then they put 6 up front effectively and absolutely STORM the penalty area. Benitez plays with a holding midfielder and 'shape' until injury time. He defends corners with 11 men when we are drawing in the 80th minute. Have you never seen the Arsenal Thierry Henry videos? They got half their goals from counter attacks began at opposition corners. Torres has the pace to do what Henry did - what the hell is he doing defending corners, at home, when we are drawing or losing and need a goal? I thank Benitez for his service and he will do well in the one-nil-catanaccio serie A borefest. I just hope he goes there while Liverpool fans still hold him in good favour. It's not the liverpool way to get rid of their manager, I keep hearing. Well, it's not the liverpool way to go 18 yrs without winning the league and have nutcase Yanks running the club ( anyone who supports George Bush should NEVER have been considered a fit and proper person to run our club). TIMES HAVE CHANGED AND WHATEVER HAPPENS, LIVERPOOL HAVE TO CHANGE OR WE WILL RAPIDLY BECOME ASTON VILLA. I could go on but I won't. I don't care if liverpool go out to Inter in the quarter finals of the champions league this and every year for the next 10 years, if we could win the title next year. That Benitez doesn't agree with this is why he must go. Hopefully the yanks will be gone soon and we can get a decent manager to replace him.

I find funny because if Kewell had scored with that shot in the dying seconds yesterday no one would be complaining about him. Kewell is Liverpool's best left winger plus he is left footed unlike babel. I think one of the reasons people are saying Riise is bad is because he isn't scoring those cracking goals. well to thise people that are thinking that it's not his bloody job to score. Kuyt tries hard but is not effective and he should be sold, Liverpool could do with a better back up keeper and Aurelio he should transfer.

I think the time is up for Rafa, too many changes week in week out no consistancy. we are getting no closer to top of league again. The problem for lfc for years is we have a good spine, reina, carra, agger, gerrard, mascherano, torres. But we lack the skill and real ability to do damage in the final third, time and time again. therefore we need a left/right beck, right/left winger and a target man who has pace and can head the ball. I would like us to buy not 2nd and 3rd choice with the exception of torres, lets get the likes of alves, bridge, quaresma, wright-phillips, villa, etoo. And have a real go, manu spend big money in the summer n 3 players, we need to compete quick. I hope that DIC take over as the americans have lost the plot! Come on the REDS!

for god sake man get ride of kuyt who runs around like a headless chiken and so far goit 3 goals in the pl i could evan do beter thn that. thn we go to harry e is SHIT! and i mean it we should get ride of harry, kuyt, fabio and riise cause thy not good enough in other words they are SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by JD Singh on February 17, 2008
how can any liverpool fan defend riise and kewell. even if kewell scored yesterday he is crap. his first 3 touches resulted in giving the ball away. personally i think he'd serve the club better if he wore a kangaroo suit and pranced round at the side of the pitch; or if we sent him to iraq to entertain the troops. riise is crap not cos he doesnt score goals but because he doesnt do anything at all in any matches. this has been the case for the last 18 months. in all this talk bout kuyt every1 has forgotten voronin who is equally crap. next season we should have torres, crouch, nemeth and sign another quality striker in the same league as torres, like ibrahamovic. also i think our reserves play better and with more passion than the 1st team. if we had played the entire reserve team yesterday we would have done much better. lastly when every1 is mentioning world class players at liverpool dont forget mascherano who is out of this world.
Liverpool need to do whatever it takes to bring in either Martin O'Neil or Jose Mourinho, and then like the supporters, the board must do whatever it takes to back him! I feel that Liverpool are just digging a deeper hole for themselves at the moment. I am not a Liverpool supporter but I respect the way they have always played football and the passion shown by the supporters. I hate listening to their rivals comments about them being sh*t, they are just going through a bad spell mainly caused by off the field politics and Rafas ridiculous rotation policy.
I did not care if HK had scored yesterday. Yeah, I would be happy with the win, but, like JD Singh said he is still crap. Yes, Babel is not a good left winger, but, he had beaten Hassell easily the whole game. Had his crosses been better........who knows what "might" have happened?? Rafa, we do not have many games left this season, please think about what the fans think too... We are tired of listening to the excuse of "we controlled the game and had more shot than the opponent, but we just fail to score". It started to sound like a broken record already. We had listened to that even before you were in charge at Anfield. Since you know that, please find out what the problem is, and solve it. That is the job of a manager...stop moaning that we do not have fund and etc... We always told our kids to overcome adversities, yet, when we are facing it, we started to moan...Come on...I agree that you had won 4 cups for us. Personally, I am very proud of what you achieved, yet, it is very dissapointing to see our players went into the game without "heart". That is not the Liverpool way.......STOP THE ROT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I couldnt agree more with Andrew sharp. You need to be ruthless and big enough to admit your mistakes in football. I cant stand the lies coming out the manager and the board at this stage. Who cares about stats. Its all about performance and getting results. We are now playing worse football than under our previous manager. I remember before the start of the season how so many fans and football experts were saying this is our year. Please, you lot dont have a clue and never will. I said to my friend after the game against sheffield utd last season we're nothing more than a championship side when it comes to league football. Never seen such a bunch of over paid clueless footballers in my life. They're still crap. LIVERPOOL WILL NEVER WIN THE TITLE UNDER THIS ADMINISTRATION PERIOD! GET USED TO IT. We need 2 top quality strikers, 3 speedy and skillful hard working wingers, and a couple high quality full backs at the very least before we can even think about competiting. The gap is that big its no joke. Enough is enough.
