No excuses! Arsenal’s Eduardo was maimed by one of the worst tackles in history
Martin Taylor's outrageous challenge warrants much greater punishment than a red card. The Birmingham defender must be suspended until the end of the season at least.

At first I wasn’t sure because the TV stations decided against showing a replay that was conclusive.
I have now seen this footage and it is as clear as crystal. The challenge made by Martin Taylor was one of the worst in football history.
Frame-by-frame footage has thankfully been removed by most video portals but anyone who has seen the images will have been shocked by the gruesome leg-breaking challenge.
I am not sure what would be a suitable punishment for such a tackle; it seems difficult to call for criminal proceedings as what happens on a football field should really stay within the confines of the footballing fraternity. So with this in mind I feel a lengthy punishment is called for.
I am not suggesting a huge year-long penalty, as has been mentioned by many. But clearly Taylor should at least be banned until the season ends.
There do seem to have been an alarming number of such studs-up challenges in recent months and something needs to be done. I don’t think Taylor should become a scapegoat but he should be dealt with according to the actions he committed, which were frankly outrageous.
I don’t think it helps when opposing fans suggest: ''Well, what about what happened last week or the week before'' whilst recounting another such horrendous challenge that was neither here nor there.
All bad challenges should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. In this case, I don’t think you can argue that a three-match ban is sufficient as this was a tackle that warrants far weightier punishment.
One can only hope that Eduardo recovers but having seen in minute detail what occurred, frankly it doesn’t look good. I just hope he can make it back to a football pitch before too long.

that was my conclusion, suspended for the rest of the season and good luck to Eduardo in recovering, he is going to need it.

This might explain if Taylor is a thug or not: he used to be a Blckburn player. These tackles really need to be sorted out. Anyone know how long Eduardo is out for? Good luck Eduardo :(
sigh...

Martin Taylor should be banned for life. Good luck to Eduardo. I hope you soon will be back. Best wishes from an Arsenal fan from Norway.

i've not seen the foottage of the tackle but from the few comments from those that ve seen it, i think is not an intentional tackle, but even at that i still think that should not be a three match ban considering the extent of damage done to this wonderful player. see you soon edu

Definitely ban Taylor for the rest of the season - I doubt very much that he meant to damage Eduardo`s leg BUT I´m sure that he wanted to damage his mentality - a case of "don´t come near me, you Arsenal player". If, (and we all hope very sincerely it does not work our that way) Eduaardo´s career is now brought to a premature end, then Taylor should never play professional football again either. An eye for an eye, perhaps, but at least the punishment might , in some way, reflect the crime. God willing Eduardo gets better soon and completely. Ww need him.

I really agree to banned. For Martin Taylor should be banned in this sport. I think he didn't a good football player. If he want to do like this he should go to boxing or fighter something. I think he didn't what is meaning of sport.

This has got to be one of the worst articles I've read in my life. I can't even be bothered to pick it apart because I could write an essay on why its all wrong. One thing is certain, you need to find a new career. Your comments are ridiculous. It is clearly obvious FROM the footage that the tackle was just mistimed. It wasn't malicious, it was one footed and it was not even a sending off a offence. The injury perverted the course of justice which was a yellow, at most. Just because he broke his leg, doesn't mean the tackler should be banned for the rest of the season. You are a useless writer and a terrible assessor of basic information. Clearly you struggle with logical decisions. Good luck.

Answer: nothing. This is a long-term professional athlete, in clear control of his body, knowledgeble about the impacts of his actions, the choices he had before him, and what he and his team were trying to do. His action won an immediate red card. Enough said. He intended to harm, deter, intimidate, rough up by his action -- what does it matter if he didn't have the actual intent to maliciously destroy a man's lief? Which he has done, by the way. I'm sure all you apologists woiuld feel different if it was a foreign player ending the immediate career of a Wayne Rooney. Sickening. This logic is exactly the same that would claim a drunk driver did not intend to cause the accident that killed the other driver, so why punish him specially? Soccer players know that studs up to the middle of the shin is very very dangerous. He should be made to pay. Your response, daveparker, is disgusting and immoral.

He needs to be banned for a long time you cant be soo reckless on the pitch ruin somebodys life because you were to slow to catch him and play on and let him sit on a fucking hospital bed with his leg broken and out for probobly a year shame on taylor intentional or not why is a player in the best league in the world making tackles like a thug is this not a prof league ? i saw ban him to the seasons end at least ! It is a shame for Eduardo but it would be just as bad if it was justin hoyte or any of the other second rate idiots who were embarrassed at old trafford last weekend, to suggest that a ban should be higher because Eduardo is a tallented player is god dam joke! Jesus what would you suggest if it was adebayor or cesc f? firing sqaud??? It is clear the lad didn't mean it, unlike the typical antics from the arsenal cheats at old trafford last week! I am guessing had Nani's leg been broken last week then you lot would have thought it been deserved because he was show boating?? The real reason why you lot are talking this crap is nothing at all to do with Eduardo but the fact gallas should be sectioned and the wheels are falling off for Arsenal, i have been saying it all season and you lot have known it has been coming all season!

Coach instructions: Help yourself Taylor! Good job! keep up the good work! ohh you broke 2 legs today, well done Taylor. But just be aware the Eduardo can sue the team and the players in this case. haha

gd luck eduardo, taylor should not be banned for life as it could have happened to anyone, wengers comments were ridiculous, did he not see gallas kick nani last week off the ball
by Dean Moriarty on February 25, 2008
Taylor is unfortunately typical of the British breed of player. No finesse and entirely physical with the mindset of "let him know you're there". Intimidate rather than outplay. Anyone defending him and I include his manager needs to check their morals. Martin Taylor should face legal action and criminal charges for an assault. Whether it takes place on a football field or in a public place the nature of the offence is the same. It is a pre-meditated attack. The football authorities should look to kick him out of the game for good and set an example for the other thugs currently populating the football fraternity. Absolutely disgraceful!

Are you lot crazy? Lets review the challenge; one foot, on the ground, went for the ball. No compare these to some of the horrendous challenges seen in the Prem over the last 4-5 months, and tell me it should have been a sending off. It was late, mistimed and was an accident - the challenge merited a yellow, and the ref only gave a red when he looked at the player in agony and saw his injury. Think about it like this - if Eduardo hadnt been injured at all, would we still be saying this was such a horrific challenge? Absolutely not. Oh, and best wishes to the player and a speedy recovery - sickening break
