David Moyes has got his Goodison team into top gear at just the right time, while his opposite number at Anfield is struggling for consistency.

As an Everton fan I'm over tbe moon! We're sitting in fourth spot in the Premier League, three points clear of that other Merseyside team (yes I know they have a game in hand, but you know what they say about points in the bag). And there are five good reason why we've suddenly become a member of the Top Four Club. Let me tell you:
1) Phil Jagielka – Surely David Moyes' best ever buy. The passion, determination and talent he possesses is worth way more than the £4m it took to bring him to the club. Last night was yet another astounding display, flinging himself into blocks, releasing players on runs, vision and guile. Surely it's time Fabio Capello gave him an England cap. He is more than capable at cutting it with the so called ‘big boys’.
2) David Moyes – The wily Scot has built up our Everton side gradually over the years rather than spending huge amounts of money in search of success. He's still derided outside Goodison Park, but respected within the club and by the fans. Moyes has managed to build a team that plays with a spirit that makes good players perform magically, and they deserve some success.
3) The Run-in – Not wishing to tempt fate, but our last eleven games are, on the face of it, easier than Liverpool’s. I know many will argue that playing teams deep in relegation trouble can be very difficult and we are also talking about sides who really aren’t much kop (no pun intended). Home games against Middlesbrough and Derby should be cakewalks, away trips to Fulham and Birmingham, whilst troublesome, should really be three point gains. Of course it could well be the Merseyside derby that really counts. That will be an explosive affair for sure.

i believe everton are sound in the middle of their defence not only jags but yobo and lescott are playing out of this world at the moment, i still believe we need holding mid fielder someone strong and skillful, we also need a good left footed attacking midfielder and maybe a strong right back

Everton v Chelsea, Everton v Aston Villa, Arsenal v Everton, Everton v Middlesbro' - Fulham v Liverpool, Birmingham v Liverpool, Liverpool v Man City, Tottenham v Liverpool. Looks like a nine point swing to me.

For everton Chelsea, Villa, Arsenal, Boro. So thats three points from boro. For liverpool Fulham, Birmingham, Man City, Spurs thats at least seven points. Liverpool will finish fourth.

Lets put it like this - Everton are supposedly in better form, playing better football and apparently have been over the last few months yet we are above them in the league on goal difference. Oh, and Jagielka has done nothing apart from in the last 7 or 8 games - not really England call-up territory in my book. Plus the run-in will mean little, but admitedly Moyes is a decent manager but you cant really say he hasnt spent money. Granted, he has made some superb acquisitions (Cahill, Arteta - Awesome player, Yobo....even Neville could be a snip at 3mill) but none of these players could cut it in the top 3 or 4. Liverpool will get the 4th they deserve (if we would have had a little bit of luck, we would be 10 points better off this season)

Lads : just note this - since the Clotterberg Derby, Chelski have topped the form league amassing 37 points from 16 games averaging 2.31 per game. 2nd:MU 38 - 17 - 2.34. 3rd:EFC 37 - 17 - 2.18. 4th:Arse 39 - 18 - 2.17. 5th Villa 33 - 18 - 1.83 and way back in 6th place the Red noses..28 - 17 - averaging a paltry 1.65 points per game..these stats cover almost half a season..reds are in terminal decline with only 2 players who'd get into a Blue shirt..roll on more turmoil thru DIC with Parry shown the door and Rafa continuing with Paddy on his Road to Nowhere in his people carrier...

The last few games do not look easy to me.Chelsea, Villa and Arse all have things to play for. Villa are rivals for 4th in their own right. EFC may have to win the derby to finish over LFC and even that might not be enough. Gutted if we beat the RS and lose to Villa- don't tempt fate ! Still it was a great performance last night COYB. Back to the Italian phrasebook !!

its newcastle not boro. Damn F365 fixture list! Either way everton will only get three points from their last four games. Liverpool at least six.

After Man City, Moyse stated tonight the calls didn't hurt us. He's wrong, At the moment goal difference is what may separate us Frm the S&*%*. Perhaps being more vocal is wht he needs to do, it works for Wenger, Fergason. Benethus and Happy face. For every penalty not given this year our goal difference is affected.

As a Liverpool supporter I can honestly see liverpool slipping up for 4th spot as rafa relies heavily on winning the champions league. The yanks have really hurt the club and i cant wait to see the back of them. When ever that is i dont no. If Everton get 4th spot then all you can say is good luck and they deserve it. Liverpool can only blame themselves if they fail to achieve at least 4th spot.

Never mind finishing fourth, we are now looking at third! So what! We have what looks like on paper, a hard run in, but we are difficult to break down. We have a squad who are hungry and we are scoring goals for fun!

You have to give respect where respect is due, and Everton over the past couple years have established themselves as the top team in the 2nd teir. Moyes has done a great job, maybe deserve alot more credit, cant deny that. As far as being in form, you cant deny that either, defensively the toffees have been very good. Everton are doing everything they can to make a claim for the 4th spot; scoring goals and defending well, but at the end of the day, the CL is another level and Everton still need to improve if they are to be a force in Europe. Couple years when everton played in the qualification round, and was taught a lesson by Villareal over two legs, the CL is different league and definitely more difficult than the Uefa cup. At the end of the day if Everton get 4th, my hat would go out to them, but it would be becuz Liverpool gave it away.

I love it all these Liverpudlians on here spouting off. Without Gerrard and Torres you would be in a bigger mess. Benitez will be sacked before the summer no doubt about it. Slow but sure Everton the tide is turning. Mascherano should have been sent off what a disgrace again from our outstanding referees.

Everton(3) vs Portsmouth. Sunderland vs verton(3). Fulham vs Everton(3). Everton(3) vs West Ham. Shite vs Everton(1). Everton(3) vs Derby. Birmingham vs Everton(3). Everton(0) vs Chelsea. Everton(3) vs Villa. Arsenal vs Everton(0). Everton(3) vs Newcastle. 25 points on top of Our 50 points = 75 points. I Estimate that the Shite will get 24 points and finish on 71 points. Also if we Exclude the Arsenal Game - Everton have conceded 3 goals in Our Last 11 Prem Games - Super Toffees ! http://www.rightresult.net/

It's their referees that may cost Everton 4th place. Also to Red Legends..."Everton were taught a lesson by Villa Real".. what game were you watching...typical; deluded, bitter red

I'm a lifelong Everton fan and I always giggle when I hear Liverpool fans come back at comments left by Evertonians. The reds supporters should really look at the context of the situation before giving the usual combacks. Moyes has built an incredible squad with limited funds and shrewd management of not only the team but the board above him. We haven't spent wildly except for the recent purchases of Yakubu and Johnson. These signings have been justified with recent high league placements and dabbling's in Europe so the case was there to spend rather than speculating on what might be and therefore securing the stability of the club without wrangles from investors etc. As for the comments regarding some of the players not getting into the teams of the top four, there is constant speculation regarding Yakubu, Cahill, Arteta and Lescott making moves to one of these. Even if I was a neutral I'd be making a strong case for Everton as a model and benchmark for how to run a club on limited finances with a view to breaking into the top four. Which if we are to look at facts, are the only club to do so in recent times.
