Eduardo and Arsenal's agony: Is Aliadiere's slap really the same as Taylor's maiming tackle?
What kind of message is sent out when a potentially career-ending challenge merits a paltry three-match ban? How can football stop these over-the-top tackles?

Football last weekend was marred by Eduardo’s horrific injury.
Although we could only watch once on TV, for those watching the match live, one could see the photos of his horrific injury on various internet sites.
News bulletins spoke of the seriousness of his injury and the risk that Eduardo's leg may have to be amputated. I was very shocked to read and see the photos. I hate to think that Martin Taylor did this on purpose as such a player would become a criminal rather than a sporting figure.
It seems that Taylor will be only banned for three matches, at least this is what the rules say. This means that Jeremie Aliadiere, who was sent off during the Liverpool-Middlesbrough match for slapping Javier Mascherano, is as guilty as Taylor.
I find this most unjust and hope that footballing authorities review the whole issue. In my opinion the best solution would be that the players who commit such an offence should stay out of the game as long as the player they maimed is out.
There is far more to football nowadays than the game itself. What if Eduardo does not play another game? It means that Arsenal would have thrown away the £16m they forked out for Eduardo.
Eduardo is sure to miss Euro 2008. What about the money he would have earned playing for his country and Arsenal?
I admired his comments forgiving his opponent but I would not like to be in Taylor's shoes. Surely he has now realised what his tackle meant to a fellow footballer. I hope other footballers take note of what happened - this might help them behave differently on the pitch.
On the other hand I do not agree with the way the media is treating Arsene Wenger for his comments after the match. What would you expect from a manager who is responsible for the whole squad?
Wenger is a responsible man, dedicated to Arsenal. To tag him a hypocrite is unprofessional considering what he has achieved and the squad and players he has nurutured.

he cost more around 8 mil pounds not 16, but i reckon taylor should be gone for the rest of the season

Three-month ban maximum for Taylor. Ban the tackles - that's what will really solve the problem - and no it won't make football a sport for namby pambys. Just tackle fairly. Hard but fair has always got to be the guideline.

actually aliadiere has recieved a four match ban because of boros appeal, taylors challenge was bad but wot is a more disgraceful comparison is that mascherano escaped Scott free, not saying aliadiere is not guilty but BOTH men raised there hands, in the letter of the law both should have either walked, or both should have been spoken to. BOTH players were guilty. The FA is a disgrace and treat the top four different to the rest of us, proof in that is in one word... Gallas

This article and its reactions just highlight the pure arrogance of Arsenal Fc. There isnt a single game that goes by without a handfull of mis-timed tackles in any game of football throughout the world. Granted, some are worse than others, some go generally un-noticed because the player didnt quite connect properly, this is known as the game of FOOTBALL. Throughout the years many players have been maimed due to bad tackling, but never in my entire life have I ever heard so much bollo*ks as whats being suggested by Arsenal fans. Why should a player receive a longer suspension just because the player he fouled plays for Arsenal? Eboue commits these sorts of fouls deliberately and near enough on a weekly basis, so what should happen to him? The fact is you lot have been extremely lucky over the years when it comes to long term injuries, you get one then look how you all react, pathetic!!!!!

whilst i think taylors tackle was miss-timed the hay-maker thrown by aliadiere was not, i wouldn't like him slapping my worst enemy about never mind little masher. the bloke is a hooligan and should be banned for life or at least the end of his playing days!

Of Course the two incidents dont compare but they should both have been sent off maybe the length of the ban should be different. On a sidenote I cannot believe, well actually I can, That mashcerenas didnt get a ban aswell, he did exactly the same thing, one rule for one again.
