Scotland's shame: Fans allowed to sully the name of Celtic legend Jock Stein.
The great man's family are still suffering because the SFA continue to ignore the chants and flag-waving relating to a Parkhead scandal 40 years ago.

Jock stein is the finest manager Scotland has ever known. There is no doubt in anyone's mind about that. He was the first manager to bring the European Cup to Britain.
He achieved this with a squad of players who were all born within a 20 mile radius of Glasgow. He won nine league titles in a row, Scottish cups and league cups. Celtic also played in another European Cup final in 1970 finishing runners up. He tragically died on the pitch leading Scotland to the 1986 World Cup finals.
Why then is this man's legendary name being dragged through the mud by a LARGE number of people in Scotland and absolutely nothing is being done about it? Banners with "BJK" are surfacing in stadia all over Scotland. Songs are being sung and polluting the air with derisory filth.
For those of you who do not know what i'm talking about, a brief explanation. In the 60s and 70s there was child abuse scandal at Celtic Boys Club which came to light later and the appropiate action was taken. BJK means "Big Jock Knew."

You Gerald Mclaughlin seem very passionate about this subject and quite rightly so, the problem I have with articles like this is that once again no one seems to have the b***s to name the culprits so many viewers of this article may think thats Scotlands shame as you call it is more widespread than in real life, lets name and shame these idiots and there clubs.

Glasgow Rangers. Thats all that needs to be said.
by gerald mclaughlin on February 29, 2008
I wasn,t sure whether or not i would be taken to pieces for it.But hey, bugger it.Rangers,Hearts,Kilmarnock are all guilty but no more so than those idiots at the SFA and their funny handshakes with the Scottish media.Damn,i wish i had put that in now!!!

The culprits carrying these banners have to be challenged by the media, tracked down and interviewed on film.If this happened they would 1. Not be able to articulate themselves 2. Be very very embarrased 3. Be rangers supporters, and I say that as one. The men involved in this...sorry numpties involved should really just be ignored, remember the orangemen of the past were morally bankrupt by todays standards and many of them did disgusting things to human beings.
The source of the problem in the west of Scotland is THE BIG MAN attitude....O hey see the BIG MAN he knows,No he does'nt know cause the big man is EGO driven and is always thinking about his image over his content in life. Its laughable watching these idiots trying hard to be something in their local lodges.collectively they are morally bankrupt you only have to look at history to see that clearly. The Masons tarnish the good charachter of the west of scotland, infact the masons tarnish every society they weed their way into.If you are a mason reading this then you will understand the image over substance thing.I say KICK THE MASONS OUT of SCOTLAND and give us peacefrom these little bys who never grew up.

Just morons who should be jailed preferably in the Maze Prison

Rangers fans are the source of the BJK chant and if you tune in to their games on tv you'll hear thousands of them singing it. What you won't hear is anything from the Scottish media or the SFA about this chanting, even though it is publicly smearing Scotland's greatest ever footballing figure. The reason is that Rangers have both the Scottish media and the SFA in their back pocket and they will not dare to say a word.

People with hate in their hearts, thats what they are.
by stephen houston on February 29, 2008
glasgow rangers there board and management and the complicity of the media are the culprits in this vile and obscene filth,
by Paranoid Android on February 29, 2008
Personally, I feel no need to sully the name of a Scottish Footballing Great, and do not participate in chanting of this sort. But, I think you will find it will be difficult to get chant of this nature stopped, as it's what the chant is perceived to refer too that may be deemed discriminative, rather than the words within the chants . If I was a celtic fan, i'd stop posting things like this, and letting the Rangers fans know than it annoys so much. If you don't bite every time some one throws bait, then they'll stop fishing.

Hey Knower of o hings thats a spot on observation by he by.

And what, exactly, are you doing about it, Gerald? You leave this sensationally in-depth piece with the promise not to rest until something's done. Please inform us what action you're personally taking, with the sword of truth in one hand and the shield of righteousness on the other. If you check out this month's When Saturday Comes - and I bet you have! - I think you'll find there is an entire page given over to the subject, written by a Rangers fan too. In it he mentions the fact that the head of the SFA (the body you libelously claim to be doing nothing about this sick phenomenon) personally intervened to remove a BJK banner from the crowd attending the Newton Stewart v Linlithgow Rose Scottish Cup match on 30th September 2007. Hear that, gerald? He PERSONALLY walked over to the morons with the flag, did ex-Rangers player Gordon Smith, and he took it off them. Also I see you manage to mention the fact Rangers fans, as detailed in the above-mentioned WSC piece, have completely halted their sectarian chanting of the past. Yet you conveniently manage to re-package this huge advance as an insult. One wonders what myopics like yourself - who clearly RELISH the chance to hate others but just need a little bit of A-B-C moral highgrounding on their side before they get on with being as black-hearted as even the sickest Jock Stein slander - are alowed to continue with two-minute sound-bites masquerading as opinion. All you've succeeded in doing is showing that what happened at Celtci Boys Club is, in your mind, nowhere near as evil as someone singing a song. Give me strength ...
Wait a minute! " There is no doubt in anyone's mind ..." that Jock Stein is Scotland's greatest ever manager. Sorry, Gerald - the penny's just dropped. You're not so much misinterpreting the facts as just completely disinterested in them - you're only trying to be "controversial", get a reaction etc And using a song about child abuse to do so? Mmmm. Those must be some mighty strong tranquilisers you take at bed-time, mate ...
.....thats exactly the kind of ill-informed comment that i wanted. Thanks for falling for it.Smith had to do what he did because everyone was STARING at him you nonce.I,m so,so glad you have written that.
HEY-HEY!! That was even easier than i thought!! I mean your initial "article" was obvious enough but, going by that Freudian masterclass of a last post on this thread, it doesn't take much to eke you out of your pathetically transparent veil of "serious concern", does it, Gerald my child. It didn't take much to blow away your pretence of being anything other than a loathsome little sh*t-stirrer, the very cancer in our game which you had the utter gall to pretend to want rid of. That cancer - That's you that is! :-) And you even call me a NONCE in an article where you claim to be outraged by the use of child-abuse allegations as a terracing taunt!! :-) Jezus! Lol! This is better than Family Guy ... Anyway, I think my job here is done - no-one will be reading yer amateur garbage anymore, gerry mah boay - and it only took two e-mails too! Think on, you silly wee boy.

This is the source of the PROBLEM between The Celtic and the Rangers fans they are always trying to be superior than each other. This is based deep in the collective egos of both tribes and its source is deep insecurity in individualism. The inability to evolve into the responsible adult world with a free independant expressive mind will keep yous locked in perpetual tribalism....ha in the 21st centuary too! One can but feel sorry for the states of both camps.

Too many of us Celtic fans are in denial about this whole shameful episode. The club should accept we covered up the abuse of children and apologise. We also fail to acknowledge that Stein did indeed knew about Torbett and failed to report this to the police. To fellow Celtic fans accept this happened and move forward.
by Jim Torbett on March 01, 2008
Big Jock did know that I was touching the boys. He took a few photos for his personal collection.
by Kris XXXXX on March 01, 2008
Whilst personally I don't sing these songs (I believe that they are insensitive to the families of the real victims), I see Celtic fans operating their usual high standard of revisionism in relation to this issue. Celtic fans - by denying that Jock Stein was aware and did not inform the police - are accusing many people of perjury, including their former captain and manager Bill McNeill. McNeill clearly stated in court that Stein was aware, had removed Torbett from the club but refused to contact the police as "the good name [sic] of Celtic must be upheld". Are Celtic fans directing their ire at McNeill for "lying"? There you go folks. The real scandal isn't the signing of songs, it's protecting a club versus the protection of victims of child abuse.
