When are Rangers going to give the green light to non-sectarian thinking?

Blue is the colour at Ibrox (Gettyimages.com)

Ibrox heads still seem to be buried in the 17th century - and even the SFA continually avoid any sort of conflict with the Ibrox club. Anyone want to join the crusade for change?

'I really do not think that anyone else in Britain finds this remotely clever, amusing or smart. It's sheer lunacy'

Here are some ready-made classics from the confines of Ibrox.

For a major corporate function due to be held at Ibrox recently, the person in charge ordered the bakers to make sure there was nothing GREEN on any of the products. Other items banned from being included in anything available to buy at the stadium were GREEN straws and pepperamis. In the restaurant inside Ibrox, Eggs Benedict was taken off the menu. For those scratching their heads, green equals, oh dear, it's Celtic's colours. The current Pope is Pope Benedict.

But I think the best one of all is the price they put on Christmas lunch at the Ibrox restaurant - £16.90. That's the date of the Battle of the Boyne.

Now, I really do not think that anyone else in Britain finds this remotely clever, amusing or smart. It's sheer lunacy. When football in general has pulled together to clamp down on everthing wrong in the world game, one of the biggest and prestigious clubs in Europe is showing itself to be extremely two-faced.

What kind of a message is this sending to the Rangers support? They'll be playing on blue grass next. It's absurd. Everyone wants to support their team to the hilt. What has a war that wasn't truly about religion got to do with a football club?

Celtic are guity, too, just not in such a pathetic fashion as the people in charge at Ibrox. Celtic don't ban blue things from Parkhead, or the food that they sell. It's childish nonsense and I can't believe that yet again the media and the SFA just brush it all under the carpet and chuckle to themselves.

Perhaps there are more people in England who are interested in Scottish football. Perhaps the bigwigs at the SFA and major Scottish newspapers don't want the rest of Britain knowing what goes on up north. It's an absolute disgrace and I am going to continue this crusade until something is done. Who's with me?

Why are Rangers still allowed to act in this absurd fashion? Post your comments below or submit an article to Sportingo.

Gerald, don't give up your day job as a writer for the Daily Record. Great to see that on the biggest day of your season you are still concerned with Rangers FC The number 1690 is a glorious day for the UK, there's a monument to it in Cornwall. BLUE is the colour. Have fun with your bin bags Celtic - Feeding off Rangers Scraps since 1888
Unbelievable Claptrap (04/03/2008 11:20)
This guy is obviously another pathetic Celtic supporter who is trying to sully the good name of The Worlds Greatest Club with this immature dribble. Problem is, there are halfwits out there who are applauding him. Sad really. Exactly where is the harm in any of what you have just written?? Get a life Gerry and perhaps a passion for your OWN club and stop obsessing with what's going on at the other side of the city you sad pathetic excuse for a football fan.
david smiley (04/03/2008 11:37)
Why post a thread about something so petty? I can't think of anything green on bakery products anyway and why on earth would they be eating pepperami at a 'major' corporate function? Again - what is the point in having green straws when we can by blue ones? Yes Gerald, it seems that you and not mr pepperami is a bit of an animal! Good Luck
Robert MacManus (04/03/2008 11:37)
Utter tripe! Get a job on the Beano because that is your level you miserable excuse for a human being. Perhaps if you were not so crippled by guilt for the failings of your 'section' of society you would not find the need to sit down and write crap like this.
James (04/03/2008 11:41)
Once again Gerald you say it how it should be said........... this is quite obviously dark age stuff from a very very dark age place with a big hint of childish behaviour from the scum bags who run this so called proud football club. I would give my own kids a good telling of for having such a immature attitude towards a colour and this sort of behaviour is from grown men........amazing stuff...........keep up the good work Gerald
Chris 182 (04/03/2008 11:42)
What utter rubbish. Why waste your time and effort? Honestly, commenting on green straws and pepparami's. Get over it mate - Sectarianism doesn't come into it, its rivalry. Arguing about a price?! I've never believed that Celtic fans are all paranoid but this tests the theory superbly. Nonsense
don mcewan (04/03/2008 11:45)
its not just a rangers problem, its the west of scotland celtic paranoia, ,
andy bluenose [birmingham city/rangers] (04/03/2008 11:53)

Scotty Jones (04/03/2008 12:27)
Nice One Gerald!!Has he not got anything to write about in his pathetic life than to write about utter nonsence. Whats wrong about being proud of your team? Isnt that what football is all about? Next he will be telling us to take down the Hall Of Fame with the great names of Alex McDonald and Barry Ferguson. Cmon the Gers!
ian G (04/03/2008 12:30)
You forgot about not selling Salt and Vinegar crips or cheese and onion when they come in a green bag! you hate us more than you love your own team mate...sad as f*&k. Greatest fans in the world eh?
Al Mac (04/03/2008 12:31)
Good grief, I don't know which problem is worse, the sectarianism that is prevalent in Scotland or the paranoia that can exaggerate ‘offenses’ into epic proportions. Since when has disregarding a colour been a sectarian offence? This is really scraping the barrel and articles such as this only serve to increase the problem of sectarianism.
Nelster followfollow.com (04/03/2008 12:51)
It's a Dutch Policeman in charge tonight. He's Oranje you know
pete tong (04/03/2008 15:20)
what on earth has the colour of items got to do with religion? personally I think the egg thing is a bit daft however I ask what that has to do with you, are you offended?
The Bunnet (04/03/2008 16:05)
Handle the truth. Rangers are always up to pathetic nonsense like this. Orange Cup final? Choice of flutes as accompaniment to follow follow on official tannoy?
true blue (04/03/2008 16:18)

kris hogarth (04/03/2008 16:25)
Change the record and take your green tinted specs off. Try looking closer to home. What a loser! Get a life and a job.
Alex (04/03/2008 18:00)
Why are Rangers still allowed to act in this absurd fashion? Post your comments below or submit an article to Sportingo. --- Are you saying that someone should punish rangers for not having any green items? Is not having any GREEN items sectarian abuse? I dont own any green clothes becuase of the rivalry, am I indulging in sectarian abuse of every celtic fan because of that?
Alan Nisbet (04/03/2008 18:07)
You forgot about the "sash" we had cut into the grass at Ibrox remember? And the bouncy is bigotted too, with the words ahh bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy na na na na na.Get a real job man, what you are complaining about is cringeworthy.Look in your own backyard before having a go. You know? The club who willingly used their stadium as a backdrop for an ira recruitment video, covered up child abuse, whos fans disrespect every minutes silence their asked to observe, thus becoming the inventors of the minutes applause because their fans cant be trusted to show some respect.
Patrick Zee (04/03/2008 18:16)
I can't believe I read that. The Eggs Benedict story is a lie too. I think the article does prove that bigotry exists but only on behalf of the "author" of this "article".
Jelle Haemels (04/03/2008 18:27)
Hey Gherald, guess what: There are green cups available at Ibrox for people who want to drink soup. Whoops, did I just burst your bubble ? This is just another sad attemt to score easy points with the bheggars.
Skunkhoover (04/03/2008 18:29)
That is the most amazing, well written and informative article I have ever read. Well done Gerald!! (sarcasm btw) You've excelled yourself and proved to the world how petty and paranoid you lot can be! P.S. "They'll be playing in blue grass next" Is it just me, or is that a fantastic idea?!
A Moses MacNeil Sandal (04/03/2008 19:25)
I mean the way Rangers have no green in their strip and Rangers try and beat Celtic every time they blame them, surely that shows what a bunch of bigots they are. Close them down it's a scandal!
(04/03/2008 19:40)
A usual "non story"from a sad hack,or is that an insult to sad hacks? lol Still grabbing frantically at straws,in order to ,create bitter and twisted headlines? But the only thing, bitter and twisted ,,,is You!!! There are tons of neds, all slagging each other ,over religion, on the ,daft threads ,go join them,it`s where you belong. And a contributor to a sporting site, is permitted to write this rubbish? No more "SPORT"ingo for me, thanks. Officially "Bhoycotted"
J (04/03/2008 19:47)
and this is coming from the same sets of fans who were foaming at a mouth like a dog with rabies, when your big Greek boy wore orange boots..
Kurt Munro (04/03/2008 19:47)
There's nothing wrong with hating Celtic. Banning green and anything related to Celtic is not remotely sectarian. We hate Celtic, and because of that, we hate green. The funniest thing is that it's Celtic fans that are still in the dark ages and throw the word "hun" around as if it isn't a sectarian insult. Typical of Celtic fans to turn NOTHING into something sectarian/bigoted, when it's them themselves who are the bigots.
(04/03/2008 21:11)
Alex,I actually own a bright green Rangers top that one of my southern Irish ,Celtic supporting mates, had made for me, in Thailand.I have worn, said shirt at training, several times, and even to the pub on ,matchdays.Luckily ,nobody takes offence...Normal people, normal lives, and I have also learned, that life is too short for such sadness....I reckon gerald should get out more and I wonder if gerald has any mates, who are Rangers fans.Perhaps ,this is his problem.mix a bit more mate, get a proper life
vsfds dfdffn (04/03/2008 22:25)
and singing dirty orange bastards,,,,,,is not sectarian ,,,,go and take your green blinkers off,,,,4 points clear,,,can sellick win the treble no,no,no
Top Tottie (05/03/2008 00:42)
What a load of utter pish - Tell me Gerald - did you go to a sectarian school by any chance? Scotlands real shame - segregating kids on sectarian grounds at the age of 5 years. Sweep sweep
Robert (05/03/2008 13:37)
Of all the people that Sportingo have asked to contribute to their site, you Gerald, had to respond. Do us all a favour and quit while you are well behind, dummy!
trueblue (05/03/2008 16:02)
in a certain area in glasgow the local priest used to run up the nearest close when the children used to shout father lol .........FACT
trueblue (05/03/2008 16:06)
skunkhoover funny enough few yrs back rangers were actually toying with the idea of planting grass that was blue, unfortunately it only showed blue fron the air
What The.... (05/03/2008 17:51)
I hope this guy is not paid to be a journalist. Someone who thinks that the colour green is related to sectarianism should not be employed in any literary job. My Celtic supporting nephew won't wear blue when watching old firm games, does that make him a bigot? I started off annoyed when I read this, now I think its funny.. Thanks for cheering me up :-)
The knower of all things (06/03/2008 01:22)
Its just too easy to wind up the west of scotland bigots hahahahaha this site is just great for reading and laughing at the moral point scoring. We are better than yous yous are rubbish no wur no aye yis ur ......its worse than a childs playground.YOU LOT over there in the west GROW UP fur christ sake.
The knower of all things (06/03/2008 19:30)
Hey Top Tottie well said about scotland segragating children.I grew up in the 70s and when I look back it makes me ashamed to be scottish. There were regular brawls between the schools of proddys and cafliks.Nothing but trouble and bitterness stemmed from that daft policy.I say KICK RELIGION OUT OF FOOTBALL...KICK RELIGION OUT OF SCOTLAND....and for the betterment of mankind KICK RELIGION OFF THE PLANET!!!
chris hogarth (14/03/2008 14:23)
Your silence is deafening gerald. What a Loser!!!
J (15/03/2008 04:34)
His crusade came to a grinding halt.....Probably down to the fact that it is mainly lies he has written here
chris hogarth (27/03/2008 12:43)
Ha!! Ha!! well all 3,000 of them at Almondvale on Sunday signing their bigoted terrorist bile!!!!
J (31/03/2008 00:11)
