Let's get real about the Celtic-Rangers divide
As the SPL title-race goes down to the wire, the excuses for the fractious Old Firm rivalry degenerate into more than football bitchiness. A Rangers fan explains why he is bored with being tight with Celtic.

I think this is one of the first honest pieces on the subject of the 'hated' rivalry that i thought was really interesting.

Read the in-depth study of Rangers fans in "How Soccer explains the world-an (unlikely) theory of globalization" by Frank Foer, and any sympathy an outsider might have for that team will quickly vanish.

you can blame us more when we fly the flag again, think your article is a cry for help.the football world outside glasgow hates rangers f.c and what they stand for. FACT, LIVE WITH IT

You want to get 'real'? OK, tell us about Rangers 100 year+ sectarian policy that you try now to sweep under the carpet as if it never happened. Tell us why your illustrious leaders won't condemn the current vitriol spouted by their team's followers regarding one of the best ever Scottish Football Managers. Tell us what the difference is between a 'fenian' bast**d and a black bast**d and how 1 is totally acceptable and the other isn't. Then once you've told us all that, tell it to the Scottish media as well, and if they hang their heads in shame like you as a follower of Rangers should, I'll believe you want to get real. Until then, please spare us your bleating condescending claptrap and tell it instead to someone who might swallow some of it. Like a Scottish referee or someone.

Thansk for the rational feedback from Don and Greg but, as always, the agreeing majority feel no need to reply - it's only theose desperate to maintain the hate who pound the keyboards til their nail beds bleed. Mark Walters' debut in Scottish football, greeted by gorilla suits and bannanas being chucked onto the pitch from three sides of Parkhead, is all we ned to know about he sacttimonious clap-trap coming from the green-and-white hyserics on this thread. No-one's holier than thou - but we need to ask ourselves if we don't actually ENJOY hating Rangers/Celtic before we come on these websites with such desperation to maintain the LCD. Hey - if I were a Celtic fan saying I was sick of Rangers for purely footballing reasons i have no doubt there'd be the same number of manic Rangers-types screaming about IRA-sympathising and "first Loyalty to Rome" and all that kinda nonsense. A nutter is a nutter, irrespective of the colours of his bar scarf. But, it's time the Keith Kavanagh's of the world started asking themselves if they actually WANT the hate to end, or if they perpetuate it because they enjoy it so much. It doesn't matter how righteous you think your argument is, if it's delivered with hate in yer heart then YOU are the problem, bhoys.
James - you sound like a manic depressive mate. Take a chill pill - have a re-read of yer own bilous comments and be ashamed - and then have a re-think. You are unknowingly correct in one point - I AM a clown! And proud of it. I like a laugh and I love having a giggle at my own expense. Does that not kind of jarr with your fondly-held stereotype of the hate-filled bigot? And, as your maniacal litany of posts, calling for an on-line persecution of me for having an opinion clearly indicates, having a laugh at oneself is certainly healthier than becoming a humourless hate-monger. Feel the love, James - feel the love, mate. In fact, have a kebab and put on a silly hat - ye'll feel more human afterwards :-)

god what change in tone from you, i thought your comments had reason untill i read and watched your links.can you tell me why the rangers scarf is covering your face like that? getting a flashback from the bad olddays in the north of ireland.
i do feel the love, i am a member of a csc in the states and we welcome all to watch the spl. two of my close freinds are rangers fans and watch the games with us. as a celtic fan i know i would not be welcome to watch the games in a rsc, before you ask i have tryed as i travel the country alot.
James. Pulllease, darking! You NEVER thought I was reasonable. Show me ONE of your posts which says Im reasonable??!! :-) And wearing a Rangers scarf round my face makes me a member of the UDA or UVF or something???!!! Erm, WHO is the reasonable one here mate - and who is the one in need of serious help? yet again, I ask you, do you know HOW TO HAVE A LAUGH or are you just about the hate?? You've said nothing about the piece at the top of the page - you've simply gone into a murderous rage over my very presence on a website. Instead of making considered points, you've encouraged everyone on this site to HUNT ME DOWN. Ooooh, very dramatic! And very handy - the more publicty I can get the better, as MAYBE, just MAYBE, folk will finally realise that the myth about Gers fans you're so desperately trying to purport is just a pile of pants: We have a sense of humour - do you, Jimmy bhoy? Do you? Anyway - I'm off to bed with my balaclava on - see you kids tomorrow. Nighty night. lots of love from yer uncle Alexander.
whats the story with the scarf covering your face then? and please dont say it was cold, your inside. LOL
by Tom McGuiness on March 03, 2008
The piece only serves to confirm reasons why we have such a fractured society. It encourages division and does nothing to heal. Shame on you for enjoying your own perverse view of this situation
i said scraf not balaclava, was gonna give you an email add to chat more about it. but whats the point? best of irish luck to ya

i, too, hate celtic. i don't feel any need to worry about it, though. as for the replies. one person writes, read this piece about rangers fans and you'll soon hate them etc. there are, i would guess, close on half a million rangers fans in scotland. yet you think you can ascribe to them a homogenous politico-social identity? risible. the rather obvious reality, that scotland is dominated by one quasi-socialist party and ruled by a republican one, would seem to undermine the old monarchist/unionist stereotype. where are all these votes on polling day? i don't recognise your world at all, dear fellow.
andy, when i read the atricle first i thought here is a rangers fan that sees it as it is. untill i clicked on his links. god saves us all if this is the new face of rangers f.c.

Hey listen up Mr Moral high ground Kavanagh you are part of a country whose wealth was made out of enslaving human beings that lead to the wealth needed for football to form in the late 1860s.You also are a member of a church whose track record is up there with pol pot Hitler and numerous other headcases through history.Don't start your moralality crusade you sound like that eejit George Galloway always twisting the facts and changing the posts.Catholics and Prodestants Muslims and Jews NONE of them can proudly look at their history..............SKELETONS everywhere you LOOK!
