Forget the Carling Cup now - Spurs need to keep the winning habit
With a UEFA Cup slot wrapped up through a famous victory over Chelsea, Juande Ramos needs to worry about maintaining up a healthy position in the league.

Spurs should be wary. Saturday’s result, a grim 4-1 defeat at Birmingham City, wasn’t what the Tottenham faithful were expecting.
Giddy with a Cup victory, most Spurs fans this year will tell you that Danny Blanchflower’s legendary quote doesn’t ring true. For Spurs, this season is all about winning – the playing well is of secondary importance.
That both performance and result came together against Chelsea was glorious. That Avram Grant, a man who should have been laying out plans like Winston Churchill to his War Cabinet, was reduced to a ghostly figure lurking on the periphery during extra time, must have provided the icing on the cake.
Juande Ramos meanwhile, showed his managerial nous, tinkering where it mattered to get the best out of his side, and then exhibiting managerial skills beyond the pitch, letting his boys go out on the lash, with panting paparazzi hounds trailing the players and their every drunken night club lurch.

Loosing to Birmingham was embarrassing!! Although I do feel that concentrating on the UEFA cup is our best option, we must not put in too many performances like we did at St Andrews! To be honest I don’t think Ramos will allow that to happen, to say that because of the Carling Cup win Spurs are now going to go into every league game like a casual game in the park is absurd!! This is the Premiership that would never happen! And I feel we will beat West Ham Sunday and put that game behind us, perhaps is just a case of Birmingham having our number this season!!

spurs wont bother in the league anymore cos they've won the cup - good 1 u doughnut! i think every1 was expecting a lacklustre performance really weren't they? fair enough nobody wants to lose 4-1 but this is the one game where i'd expect something of a let down. and you implying that we could get relegated just because of this performance is absolutely ridiculous. i suppose u think arsenal will finish mid table cos they drew at st andrews. u really are a tw@t

Every game for Spurs is important between now and the rest of the reason. Winning the UEFA Cup will be a fantastic acheivment however, good performances, victories and a sense of impending greatness under Ramos needs to be conveyed in order to attract the type of player that is capable of taking us to Champions League qualification. Maybe Ramos is giving those players he thinks surplus to requiremtns a chance to prove their worth, not something they did against Birmingham. Are final games are against teams where we should be picking up points, some against teams that we are trying to catch in terms of league position. The higher up the league, more money and potentially a greater summer transfer budget, oh what jewels will Ramos unearth!! Complacency is something I think Ramos does not believe in and I would expect improved performances from now on, well as a eternal pesimistic Spurs fan, I hope so!!

Personally im a bit worried, problem is without both or either King or Woodgate in the side, we are there for the taking as shown against Birmingham and thoughout most of the season. We need to invest in a quality replacement for King. I love the bloke and I think if it hadnt been for injuries we could be looking at the best defender in the world, but the fact is his injury situation will never change and I can see him quitting soon. We will never reach top four with Kaboul in the team, he is a liabilty and Dawson should be improving this season but unfortunately has gone the other way! If king and Woodgate both play against PSV, the likely sceneario is that we will struggle against West Ham and a loss could put us just 4 points above the drop!
