Three more years of Sir Alex and then what for Manchester United?
He's still looking to land the Premier League and Champions League trophies, but what happens when "The Boss" decides to retire?

Sir Alex Ferguson recently announced that he probably has three more year left in him as Manchester United boss, and given his fantastic service with the Premier League giants and just how much he has achieved since he joined them way back in 1986, is it time to start looking at life at Old Traford after Sir Fergie?
After a stuttering start at Old Trafford, Ferguson has gone on to such astonishing success it would be fair to say that he is one of, if not THE, most important football manager to ever ply his trade in the UK.
One of the key things to remember about the former Aberdeen boss's time in Manchester is that it took time for him to get his bearings at the club, time for him to put his stamp on a club that had essentially lost it’s way in terms of real tangible success. Yet he was given time, and the club hasn’t looked back since. It’s interesting to ponder whether such time would have been given to him now in the cut-throat world of Premier League football.
He slugged away for three years which Sir Alex himself stated were "the darkest period [he had] ever suffered in the game." This of course included that 5-1 defeat at the hands of neighbours City among other diabolic performances.

After his retirement I hope for a quality manager and even Queiroz will be a good opyion because he work under Sir Alex Ferguson and already know the players very well.

after fergie has gone i hope utd get a former player who can manage the team, someone like bryan robson. his excuses are pretty crap for getting beat but at least he dosen't hide when his team fails to win.

After Fergie Manchester Utd will continue to dominate the PL,he has been a genuis for many years but I forsee a Man Utd that from 2013-2015 will win consecutive CLs.

to call fergie a genius is not quite right pal, there have been better managers that have gone before. he's had vasts amount of money to sign the top players and coaches ect. the year they won the champions league they finished 2nd in the table behind arsenal. i do have great admiration for what he has achieved with utd and aberdeen, man u play football that is quite breathtaking at times and should be given credit for that but i can't see them dominating the champs league. i think by 2013-2015 we might have a differant format in the way of a european super league, but you being the knower of all things...and loads more i don't really doubt you either.

Hmm, your arguments are quite edgy my friend. With all do respect, every knower of football knows that United won the Champions league the same year they did the treble (CL, Premier League, FA cup). Even though i see this as a strange comment by you, it should be corrected. The part about Fergie using 'Vast's amounts of money' is simply not true. First of all, when Fergie came to the club, it was no where near as rich as it is today, even the change considered. His most successful team (93 - 03) was highly dominated by homegrown players. Nevilles, Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Beckham was all brought in and grown up, without using any money. Add to that they paid 500 k for Schmeichel and about the same for Cantona, which is about the whole of Uniteds most successful team. So those arguments about money are ridiculous and you should consider putting them aside. And to answer the question, I see Roy Keane as a really good replacement. Possibly after Quiroz has managed the team for a couple of years. We need a manager who knows the club and the set of standards it takes to play for United, something Fergie always emphazised. Add to that, Keane is really playing attractive football, so i believe in him .

hi andrew, i stated that utd would not have been in the champs league for finishing 2 the years before. the year they won it 98/99 they qualified by finishing second in 97/98. look back at the leagues on google you'll see i have nothing to correct.

He means that they qualified for that season's Champion's League by finishing the previous PL season in 2nd. So yeah, I know what he means, but the way he wrote it was wrong. Anyways, I don't see how that means anything at all. I would say he earned his money (to buy players), without his initial success the club wouldn't be so wealthy. What I'm worried is that the new manager may never have the aura and presence of Fergie that will drive on the players to greater heights.

Hey don't insult us monkeys here at the zoo,I can assure you we are all more intelligent than Barry Tripper.
Again as someone stated, you said that they won the CL the same year they came second. That was what you wrote, so that is what i commented upon. And yes Fergie is indeed a genuis. He may not be as tactically gifted as a Benitez, but he is the best knower of players. This is best showed in the Final of the CL in 99' where his feeling told him to put Solskjær and Sheringham in, even though that had other fabulous players on the pitch. And look what it lead to. He is second to none, and has the status of a legend in my heart. Maybe even greater than Sir matt ?

Ferguson has proved to be a real fighter, always willing to win everything. People think that Man Utd were always rich but when Ferguson took over the club, the transfer funds were not big. The next manager who will took over Sir Alex will get a big squad with a lot of money to spend. I hope he can spend it wisely. Come on United

after reading some of the posts i can see barry trippers point (only just) and also andrew utd's point as well, but i wouldn't say sir alex is a genius i thnk he's been a bit lucky. his job was hanging by a thread when they played crystal palace in the fa cup, they were 2nd best to bayern munich when they beat them in the cl. the game of football has changed radically in the last 15 years so to compare managers would be unfair and can be distorted but to me a genius would be in the shape of brian clough. don't want to upset anyone but the word genius is bounded round a little easily these days.

Hey knower of everything ever your spot on Tripper is a plonker and so are the sados at Sportingo! his must stay a free speech zone otherwise it will fold.We are football supporters not the cambridge debating society.Oh you bounder you I'm going to biff you.

With regards to the word 'genius', I see your point there. I mean, surely Sir Alex is not an Albert Einstien or one of the likes. But in terms of manager of a football team, he can't be denied the status. I have had the pleasure of chatting to the man on one or two occasions, and there is nothing the man can't answer. I would say that he's a genius in terms of knowing players and knowing when they are best and whats on their mind. That is his number one force, a force he has used to win him 30 titles in British football. Genius.

Tripper is indeed a sado,I've followed this ongoing argument and for a grown man to be insulted to the extent that he calls sportingo to claim abuse due to a humorous reference to the zoo is a sign that hes probably a high school student and from a religious background. These people here in the states get easily offended and have no grasp of humour at all.

What do u mean united finished second the year they won the champions league.Isn't it common knowledge that they completed the TREBLE that year!!!!!!!!!
by The knower of all things on March 14, 2008
Lets get things straight here the champions league is no longer exclusive to champions.UEFA devalued it in the mid 90s to access ore TV revenue. The title Champions League should be changed to something that reflects the true situations, maybe to the The League Champions and Also ran League?
