Another terrific performance from the Spurs lads, brushing off memories of that abysmal trip to St Andrews – which, by the way, is one of the away trips I have never enjoyed. But one thing that stuck out for me in yesterday's 4-0 victory was the whole-hearted display by West Ham midfielder Scott Parker.

I have always admired the former Charlton man who has never quite lived up to his potential. The way he stormed around the White Hart Lane pitch, giving his all in every challenge, was a truly memorable performance to witness.

I am sure that if I was a West Ham fan I would be very happy that he was on my team – he was clearly exhausted as he was hauled off by Alan Curbishley, a manager who has of course been instrumental in the England international’s career. One must consider though what might have been for the 27-year-old Londoner.

I am not meaning to belittle the Hammers but I think it is clear that given the ability and heart that Parker possesses he deserves to be at a bigger club, and I am not saying that Spurs would be that club. I think when Claudio Ranieri paid £10m to make him a Chelsea man it really should have been the beginning of a glittering career, but he was never given a chance at Stamford Bridge and it is frankly criminal that he has just three England caps. I mean, Wes Brown has five times as many!

Is it too late for Parker to become a big star in the game? Have injuries and bad man-management scuppered his career? Alternatively, can he be the man who heads the rejuvenation at Upton Park?

All I am saying is that Parker is a player that every team could do with – and that goes for Spurs.
