The title race this season is hotting up nicely to a dramatic climax. Who will win the title of champions of England? How many more twists and turns will there be before the end of the season? Your guess is as good as mine!
Arsenal and Manchester United have been the dominant teams this year in the Premier League and their current positions couldn't be much closer. Arsenal have slipped up in a few matches of late, especially in their failure to defeat Wigan at the weekend. This result leaves the Gunners in first place by two points but the Red Devils have a very important game in hand against their bitter rivals. Both teams have very difficult matches ahead of them, with an abundance of teams playing for European places and fighting relegation.
The weekend results in the FA Cup show what can happen if a team is not on tip-top form and slip-ups can occur even to the best teams in the Premier League.
Arsenal have drawn their last three matches in the league to give the upper hand to their Manchester rivals. The North Londoners can be forgiven for being a little distracted though due to their fantastic Champions League win over AC Milan. Do they want Euro glory more than domestic success? They still have a fantastic chance of both. The likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Philippe Senderos and Cesc Fabregas have enough quality to defeat the best and, although tiredness may set in after a busy season, the Arsenal boys have the youth and passion for glory.
Manchester United are full of quality, too. The revelation that is Christian Ronaldo and the goal-scoring abilities of Wayne Rooney, combined with the experience of players such as Rio Ferdinand, surely make this team just a step away from glory as well this season. With the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson still as focused as ever, United will not let their league crown slip by the wayside easily. A poor result in the FA Cup to Portsmouth should not affect the team morale too much and the title race looks set to go down to the wire.
Away from the top two in the league, don't dismiss underdogs Chelsea. Avram Grant’s side are still very much in the race and if they win their two matches in hand they are only two points behind the leaders. They, too, like Arsenal and Manchester United, are still in Europe, meaning each title contender has a busy schedule ahead of them.
I think that the title will be decided on the last day of the season. All three teams need to still play each other in the title race and these matches are sure to be six-pointers. Other teams such as Liverpool also have games to play against these sides and so could have their say in the contest. All three squads are big enough and have enough power to win but if I had to pick one team then Arsenal would come out on top. Arsene Wenger has almost produced a title-winning team from scratch over the past couple of years and he deserves every success in the English game.
