The ONE player Spurs simply cannot sell
No matter how much Chelsea and Manchester United come up with, White Hart Lane's crown jewel Dimitar Berbatov HAS to stay.

Whatever Juande Ramos does in his Tottenham career - and he has already done a great deal - he must under no circumstances sell Dimitar Berbatov, regardless of the amount of money placed on the boardroom table.
I am not totally convinced the Bulgarian wont be sold, hence my strong stance. Whatever Berbs wants to stay, he must be given it. In my many up-and-down years as a Spurs fan, he is one of the three most valuable players I have ever seen play for the club.
So when Chelsea and Man United come calling in the summer, (and they will, mark my words), Daniel Levy must hang up the phone and unplug it from the wall. Valued at around £30m and a supreme talent, the 27-year-old had a poor patch last September and October - but he is back with a vengeance. Twelve goals in the last 18 games as well as providing a whole lot more have helped rejuvenate Tottenham's season and to make us cup winners once again.
Whilst the club have many players of quality (and one or two without it), Berbatov is the jewel - the priceless object that should not even be considered a commodity to cash in on.
I was aghast when a few fellow ‘fans’ suggested that it would be worth selling the former Bayer Leverkusen man. Some felt his attitude was a problem and that he wasn’t giving the club his all. These supporters are thankfully rare - and they are WRONG.
Dimitar Berbatov is a footballing genius and that’s not a statement I use lightly.
And I bet you thought the one player I was referring to was Anthony Gardner!

I totally agree, its as if i wrote the article myself!! if we had 2more players of Berbas quality, we could finish 2nd!!

How about Robbie keane is'nt he as preciuos as Berbatov?
by Paul Jackson on March 12, 2008
Keane is arguably better than Berbatov and far more important to the team.

Life is never so simple, and whilst I agree that the man's a genius I suspect that he will determine his own destiny as all top players seem to nowadays (indeed, I understand that such an agreement has already been struck with his agent). Whether or not he stays beyond the end of this season, it's been a privilege to watch a master at work. What an inspired signing he was!

This is a decision that won't be made by Sr Ramos as we are all aware.....well most of us it seems. It will be a decision between DL, DC and JR. If, for example, we were to be offered £30 million then I feel DL and DC would snap hands off, JR would have little say in the matter.

does anyone reckon we have sorely missed michael carrick?
by the media on March 12, 2008
You really think that if Levy disconnects the phone that will be enough. Foolish one. We tapped up Carrick on Man Utd's behalf and now we are doing the same with Berbatov
by JJ on March 12, 2008
we missed carrick in the way that Jol was building the team around him, so as soon as he was gone we didn't know what to do and our football suffered as a consequence. Ramos has us playing different football now and i don't believe that Carrick would really fit in to the system as he simply isn't dynamic enough. People will say that Huddlestone is no different, but he is a better football player than Carrick, or at least he will be as time goes on.

Barbatov is not our top goalscorer. He's more interested in adjusting his hairband and falling over like a girl than fighting for Tottenham Hotspur. He thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread and we should take the money and run. Than we can build a TEAM.
by David Kirby on March 12, 2008
I agree Berbatov should be kept but if there is to be a real future also Keane, Lennon, Woodgate, Hutton, Bale, Tarrabat, Peckhart Jenas, Huddleston. They all have class and can make a top club out of Spurs
by mike on March 12, 2008
we havnt missed carrick at all. he was never that wonderful anyway and man utd got mugged by paying such money. berbatov must stay, he is class, the way he plays is tottenham hotspur all over.
on March 12, 2008 on March 12, 2008
id like to see michael arteta or someone of his class at the club we need a midfeilder to play a pass that splits defences on a regular basis.
by MetalHead on March 12, 2008
What people forget is that although Carrick was good at SPURS, the money that we conned out of ManUre funded the surBERB and Zokora (I personally would have been satisfied we the almighty BERB, Zokora was a bonus)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
steed works hard but he is one paced and a bit hedless chicken like . zokora lacks quality.
by Nice 1 Cyril on March 12, 2008
I agree completely about Berbatov. I would also say that having been a fan for 50 years we must also keep Huddlestone and get rid of Jenas. Huddlestone showed on Saturday the extra class that Jenas will never have. Lennon needs to take the next step and Keane must continue doing what he does best. Woody looks to be a good buy, but we need serious cover for King.
by Nicky Read on March 12, 2008
If some of you posters think that Jenas,Steed, Hudd & Lennon are good then you have obviously never seen Hoddle,Gazza.Waddle or Ginola. The complete midfield we have now is crap, yeah that includes Lennon who I think has peaked too early and who will not now improve. He should be showing the sort of skill that Hoddle etc did but he does not & cannot.Years ago we had a player called John Pratt who did not have great skill but everygame made a greater contribution to the game than Lennon. I guarantee that no member of our midfield will do the business tonight.
chimoaners attitude at the carling cup final was a joke!!!! the way he marched down the tunnel. then came out to celebrate with the rest of the team was infuriating fine him. sack him . send him up to the circus up in newcastle. and before leaves poke him in the eye. oh and stel his gloves
by Spurs4 Ever on March 12, 2008
Zokora has yet to prove his price tag. Jenas goes missing in games and on some occasions loses the ball too easy. Lennon is a one type of game player. Gets the ball charges down the flank and puts the ball over. Whilst I like this his accuracy is not brillant in the crosses nor his corners. Taino is a squad player. Malbranque also loses the ball too easily. Carrick when he played stopped almost every corner that was taken against us by standing near to the area line. We have too many half hearted mid fielders who if played to their potential would be world class but alas this is not so game in, game out. Manure rarely lose the ball in midfield and connect perfectly with their front two. Hudd can provide good accurate distance passing that we should exploit more. Teams like Manure and Chelski like to dictate the pace of a match. When we beat Chelski we dictated it and beat them so we need to continue with a high tempo match and dont give the opposition time to settle on the ball. IMO.
chimbonda is a GIT just like hossam "i dont do running" gahly

If we start selling our best players we will be back to square one.Berbi must stay and so the rest of the present midfield, we have got a team that can challenge the top four and lets keep it that way,we need a good goalie insted of Robinson and another defender , but since Ramos came all the players are playing good football, unlike when Jol was in charge.

TOTTENHAM WILL BE NOTHING WITHOUT BERBATOV.....the only reason people say he is not scoring goals is because he is the midfielder/forward....he provides many of the passes for goals....just watch the matches carefully....he has a pinpoint pass...and inexperienced players like bent miss the shot completley (i hate bent we wouldl've won at psv had he made that shot, btw berba passed it to him)....i hope we keep him i really dop because honestly that 40-50 goal per season with a partnership of bent and keane is highly unlikely...please stay berba!!!!
by alex D. on March 13, 2008
you are soooo wrong buddy....you don't know anything about tottenham we need berba up top to provide passes and score goals!!!! he is pure class!!!
by m p on March 13, 2008
we should look to keep berbs and then bring in other class players like arteta, van der vaart, etc.. to complement his football and also give the other midlfield players competition.
by Danny Sheldon on March 13, 2008
If Berbatov has any sense he'll move on to a club that hasn't got the word LOSERS written all over it. Your only chance of winning anything is if all your opponents field their reserves team
by Richard Bryant on March 13, 2008
Would just like to say Danny Sheldon hasn't got a clue about football. Berba is the best striker in the Premiership along with Torres and we can not afford to sell him if we are going to push into the top 4. What Spurs really need is a central midfielder that can give defence splitting passes. Lennon is developing nicely and Bale will be a huge boost come next season.....I know they said it the beginning of the season but Ramos is doing well at Spurs and will 100% have Spurs pushing for the top 4 coming next season......UEFA cup next season boys :)
