The Liverpool player who has finally shut up the critics
Dirk Kuyt has suffered more than most at the hands of the press - but the Dutchman is finally showing his real worth.

Admit it, journalists - take it on the chin, opposing fans! Your incessant attacks on Dirk Kuyt's supposed lack of ability have rebounded on you.
In his wide role, the Dutchman he has come on leaps and bounds this season and is far more likely to be a name on Rafa’s team list in this role than as a strike partner to Fernando Torres.
He has many qualities and it showed earlier this season that scoring isn’t one of them. Invariably he would need four or five efforts before he got one on target - and that would normally be saved fairly comfortably.
However, Kuyt does have vision and runs his heart out on the pitch. He is getting better and better at finding players with his crosses and can of course be switched up front as and when the situation dictates. He is also a great player for the European occasions - these matches are clearly far more up his street than the 100mph English game, where quick thinking is paramount.

In what way has he silenced his critics?? He was one of our poorer players last ngiht against inter milan, he was very sloppy and kept giving the ball away. We need a quality right winger this summer and we need to sell kuyt. He plays his heart out every game no doubt about that but hes a striker and strikers have to score goals which he struggles to do.

Sean, i think you've been drinking to much, can i just refer you to a paragraph in the article "He has many qualities and it showed earlier this season that scoring isn’t one of them. Invariably he would need four or five efforts before he got one on target - and that would normally be saved fairly comfortably." Ok, now hate to burst your bubble, but DK was bought as a striker and strikers are there to score goals and he doesn't...well every often. He's playing where he is a stopgap till May, when rafa can go out and look for a wordie right man to do that job. Teh DK will be on the "get Shut" list. Can't argue he doesn't work hard and run himself into the ground, but simply thats not good enough for Liverpool FC...Sorry!

Wow, what a load of complete and utter rubbish. You are the guy who earlier said you didn't rate Kuyt earlier in the season and now you write "in the wide role Kuyt has come on leaps and bounds this season"!!!!! Seriously, how can anyone be taken seriously who changes their mind like that from one extreme to the next? Kuyt is 2nd rate, always was and always will be. It's be a relief to so many reds when he is gone. Please refrain yourself from writing such terrible tosh. BTW, Kuyt is a speedy winger now is he seeming that he can't score any goals? Just like Diouf became a winger too when he FAILED MISERABLY as a striker.

Kuyt has silenced the critics who know something about football. Those who don't understand that you need workers, as well as flair players and, players that catch the eye, will never appreciate him. Liverpool throughout the years have always had players who where slagged off when they were in the team but missed greatly when they were not. He was signed as a striker, and didn’t do too bad in his first season; however his great work ethic has seen him become almost indispensable on the right wing. Just as a point of interest the great Ray Kennedy was a striker at Arsenal before being converted into a quality midfielder by Bob Paisley.
Sean, I have just read your Feb 18 article where you say Dirk Kuyt is not good enough and never will be. How can you write that and a few weeks later write that nonsense you have written above? That's not even worthy of comment, mate. You know Kuyt is completely 2nd rate and your elation from beating Inter had made you ignore your common sense.

yes he done okay in a wide roll but its a case of a square peg in a round hole. Work rate and effort cant change the fact that he was bought as a 10m striker and in that position he is utter garbage. He along with pennant, crouch, voronin riise and kewell MUST be gone in the summer, regardless of what happens for the rest of the season.

If you read the other article i wrote today you will see that i hold my hands up and state i have been wrong about Dirk, check it out. I am indeed elated after last night, but i stand by my statement, i do think that Kuyt has improved greatly and as Ian has so rightly pointed out he has changed his game to suit his abilities and i think its working.
Sean, since your Feb 18 article he can only have played how many games? He did well at home to Inter, he was 2nd rate again last night. Your instincts on the player for most of the season were correct. He is not good enough. Maybe it's true he is better out the right than up front. But in either position he is well below the standard we need if we're to become the top team in the Prem. Utd, Arse and Chelski wouldn't take Kuyt for free.
