For me the most improved Premier league player this season is Glenn Johnson.

The Portsmouth pickpocket has endured a frustrating few years since he broke in to the West Ham team and secured himself a big money move to Chelsea.

That decision saw his career fall backwards a bit but once again Harry Redknapp has come to the rescue and revived a faltering career. During Portsmouth's FA Cup win over Manchester United, Johnson had one of his best games in a blue shirt and his goalline clearance proved vital in the end.

His positioning on the line was excellent and his header away more than cleared the danger. But one act alone does not mean he has improved. His overall play this season has improved, as has his concentration. His fabulous goal against Wigan in October showed his close control. This goal was in first in three years.

His time at Chelsea saw his development suffer, he did not feature under Jose Mourinho and his confidence suffered as a result.

The player had many fall-outs with Mourinho, the most significant being when he forgot his passport ahead of a Champions League match with Barcelona. Johnson is a player that thrives on confidence but a bit like Steven Gerrard he needs to be praised by his manager for his performance.

Redknapp has made a name for himself as an excellent manager of people and the transformation of Johnson is mostly down to the man who groomed him at West Ham.

Johnson has come a long way since January 2007 when he was fined £80 for attempting to steal a toilet seat and other bathroom fittings. With Micha Richards now established as his country's right back in the absence of Gary Neville, the time may have passed for Johnson to add to his five caps.

But if he continues his current form then you never know, 2008 could be a good year for Johnson and it might get better with a FA cup medal.
