Devastating! The Manchester United phenomenon that is Cristiano Ronaldo
With 24 goals in 24 Premier League games this season, is there anyone better in the modern game?

Is there anyone out there still in any doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo is not the best and most exciting player in the world at present? No, I didn’t expect so.
Manchester United’s Portuguese One-Man o’ War is an absolute gem, a footballing phenomenon that comes along once every 20 or 30 years, shredding the record books, captivating audiences worldwide with a skill quotient not seen since the heady days of George Best, Garrincha, Maradona, Pele and Puskas.
For a 23-year-old to score 24 goals in 24 Premier League games is almost beyond belief. To have netted 33 goals so far this season is equally mind-boggling, especially when you consider that one of the first records to go already is that of Best’s 32 for United in 1968. And don’t forget we’re talking about wingers here, not out-and-out strikers.
Critics and many fans were quick to denounce Ronaldo's incessant step-overs and amateurish attempts to win free-kicks and penalties by his tumbling antics in his early Premier League days. Referees soon cottoned on and Ronaldo didn’t do himself any favours.

When he is up against top quality oppostion he fails....its a pity he just does this against relegation zone teams.. I think c.ronaldo is just over-rated!!! true greatness is measured when you play against the best. Against the other top 3 teams in the premiership he goes missing.... Last season against MILAN both legs...where was he???? Against Chelsea in the FA CUP final...again went missing...

He is in a league of his own at present. There is not a player in the world right now that has such an influence on matches as Ronaldo does right now. If he doesn't get world player of the year this year then he never will!
by Amjad Khan on March 20, 2008
This article is rubbish!! Juninho of lyon has been doing this freekick for years but his name has not been mentioned!! He is the best free kick taker in the world. Ronaldo is new to this...

This guy is at present the best player in the world and is on course to be the best ever, he has everything, quick, skillfull, strong, good in the air, the list goes on! and by the way im not a United fan!
best ever?? this is getting quite funny now... To be even considered to be the best you must deliver in the champions league, euro championships and World cups. Scoring against the fulhams, newscastles and boltons of this world does not make you the best player in the world. I had this debate about Theiry Henry a couple of years ago, he was doing this against inferior teams. NOw he is at barcelona and is just another player.... C.ronaldo will not make it in my top 50 players ever list....Its almost laughable to suggest he is.... The best players of the last 25 years have been...Maradona, Zidane, and the "real ronaldo", malindi. This fake ronaldo will never join this list...i can assure you...

Its all very well to grab bagfuls of goals against the likes of Wigan, Bolton or Newcastle but Ronaldo rarely delivers in matches agasint the other big 4 teams or in crucial Champions League games. In many games he is a big fish in a small pond. No doubt he is the most awesome player in the Premier League at the moment but until he can lead Manchester United to the Champions League with a fair few goals, constant consistency and the halting of his diving and cheating antics, I won't consider him the best in the world.

Hey Amjad... Ignorance surely must be bliss. Your disdane is unfortunate and miss-placed. This kid is only 24. Think about it.

You lot are complete idiots, Ronaldo is the top scorer in the champions league, what more does he have to prove? As for the age old crap of not doing it at the big matches- what about arsenal? hes scored many goals against them over the years. Also- when you're talking about the best ever; Ronaldo and Zidane were great players but for the love of god shut up and stop saying they were the best ever. All that does is highlight the fact that you know nothing. If a top 20 list was made neither would get in it fs

obviously he is the best player (man u fan) we wouldnt b as good wifout him best player on earth i rekon
In my books to be the best player you must deliver in world cups and euro championships like Zidane.. C.ronaldo is not fit to do zidanes laces... He is just hype and nothing else.... For me there is ONE Ronaldo and he is brazilian. A true footballing legend.! I dont beleive in FAKE ronaldos that have won or done nothing in big tournaments.... What exactly has he done??? please explain to me someone... The REAL ronaldo was world player of the year twice at 21!! This fake ronaldo is 24... .

Keep the comments coming guys, but please note that I didn'tinfer that Ronald is the best player ever - I simply asked if he is the world's best player AT PRESENT. Cheers!

He may not have proved himself in Europe yet. Others think he is overrated and some even think that he is a fake Ronaldo. But it always is a pleasure watching the lad and his freekicks are marvellous. Ask your selves this, If Ronaldo is playing against your team, would you have a player or two man mark him? If yes, then you do consider him a threat. If he got a freekick against your team from with 25 yards, would your hearts be pounding like crazy?

Common guys dont compare footballers. Think of what he has done. He has scored the most number of goals this season in champions league which clearly indicates he is good enough at that level as well. How do you think of a winger scoring goals against Big teams. And guys Ronaldo (brazil) was a striker. If if you think he scored against low rated teams then why your Brand players werent able to score against them.

As a die hard Liverpool fan, you'd expect me to be reluctant to sing the praises of a United player but let's be honest, we are watching a player, the likes of which hasn't graced our country before. Never has an individual been so effective. His goal tally is frightening and I for one am more than happy that he is in our league. If it wasn't for Cristiano Ronalso - Torres would have cruised to the Player of the year accolade. Let me finish by saying, most Liverpool fans acknolwedge class - that's why Henry used to be given a standing ovation whenever he played at Anfield. I certainly wouldn't object to Ronaldo receiving the same treatment.

Juninho has been using this technique for more than five years, yet one guy in England copies it successfully and he is called the inventor, another example of English hype,
by THE GREATEST on March 21, 2008
It is true that the english media has been guilty of over-rating many players before e.g. michael owen- but in this case i think ronaldo fully deserves it. Top scorer in the premiership and champions league, on course to being europes golden boot, and hes a winger. Juninhos technique with freekicks is different- very effective but different; so therefore his name should not be brung into this

ronaldo does perform in the big games.euro 2004 he was brilliant in helping his country reach the final.he was man of the match in the fa cup final v millwall, and last season he shredded roma in the q-finals of the champions league.all big games, true he was disapointin g v milan but so were the rest of his team mates
on March 22, 2008 on March 22, 2008
So Dan your saying he plays well against big teams like Millwall but not little teams like Milan.
by dan marotta on March 23, 2008
