Last year West Ham stared relegation in the face, but somehow Alan Curbishley, who took over a depleted and relegation-bound West Ham side, pulled them out of the mire. This is definitely one of the most miraculous relegation escapes – with commentators pointing out that before this Saturday’s Everton-West Ham game, the Hammers were a whopping 20 points ahead of last season’s points tally at the same stage. West Ham’s escape was in large part due to the red-hot form of Tevez as well as Curbishley’s backs-to-the-wall management, which led them to win seven out of their last nine games, including a final day victory over Man Utd.
