Manchester United have their own Cristiano Ronaldo - and so do England!
The Portuguese sensation has become a brilliant acquisition for the Red Devils - but how much of his genius is down to Sir Alex's influence?

Cristiano Ronaldo was heralded as the Portuguese answer to Wayne Rooney when he first arrived in England for £11m. At the time Rooney was still plying his trade with his childhood heroes Everton and parading around in T-shirts that stated “Once a blue always a blue”. Now he has shown that to be untrue and has since been seen kissing the badge of Manchester United - although I do have it on good authority that one of his main ambitions in life is to manage Everton and eventually actually take ownership of the club.
At the time Ronaldo joined United, he was seen as a bit of a one-trick pony. Once he had done his obligatory 17 step-overs and everyone had fallen asleep waiting for him to pass the ball, he would fall over and scream abuse at the referee for not giving him what he felt he deserved.
After spending the last few years under Sir Alex Ferguson's watchful eye, he has now developed into reputedly one of the best players in the world, although this is up for debate. However, I would defy anyone to show me anyone who has the combined speed, skill, quality of finishing and all-round energy that Ronaldo has.
He lacks very little these days. He is big, strong, powerful has the pace and balance normally attributed to someone half his height - and is a very under-rated header of the ball. He also seems to be trying to cut out the more devious aspects of his game and by that I mean his constant diving and trying to get players booked.

The fact of the matter is that rooney is a great player. But what is also true is that ronaldo has more natural talent and i alwaysa knew he did from the first time i saw him. I knew this guy was going to be special. You either have the talent or u dont and he definitely had it. It was using his talent properly and making the right decisions which made ronaldo a shadow of wot he is now. But he always had the talent. I know most poeple wont accept this especially in England but Rooney does not have the talent Ronaldo posesses and that is reality. You can carry on believing otherwise but you will carry on being dissapointed year after year. He is a marvelous player but not the next "Pele" as the english media had predicted. Sometimes you lay the ground for yourselves and then dont want to get to grips with the truth.

Quote, "Ronaldo has more natural tallent". Ronaldo's game is based on skill, practiced over and over millions of times, this is not what I would call natural, it is rehersed. Rooney bases his game on vision, seeing the pass before its there, knowing how to play the game and dropping deep to bring the squad into the match. This comes naturally to him. What he doesnt have is the rehersed skills of Ronny, and it is this skill with the ball where we all hoped Rooney would develop.

You do have to understand that these two players bring different qualities to the team and it should not be discounted. Rooney's determination, drive and work ethic gives MU an edge as with Ronaldo's pace, trick and goals. When Rooney start to get that ruthlessness in front of goal like Ronaldo, he will also be heralded in the same bracked as Ronaldo.

If ronaldo wins CL and EPL then he will be world player as well as EPL player and golden boot of the year. On another note, i personally believe different players develop at different pace at different stages of their career, to me Rooney has matured a lot this season, specially with his passing and vision and temperament. If he can regain his shooting venom, he will surely challenge for top striker next season. As for cronaldo, now an unprecedentedly high level of standards is expected from him, will he be able to maintain it will depend on his fitness and moreover his progress in this summers euro2008.

My main point is this, Rooney was the amin man and is now playing secodn fiddle, this has as much to dow ith Ronaldos skills as it does with Rooney not developing as quickly, and the final point is Im not to sure Ronaldo would be half the player he is if he hadnt been playing in the Premier League.

now all you have to do is get him an all english passport and start your world cup 2010 hype as the team that should win it all. i think after teaching ronaldo to play soccer you guys deserve him.
