100 reasons why Manchester United legend Beckham is blocking Blackburn's Bentley
England boss Fabio Capello should be building for the future - and that means looking to the likes of David Bentley rather than David Beckham

“I have played with so many good players and won the Champions League at Bayern Munich, but I can imagine [David] Bentley playing in the best teams in the world. He has everything he needs to play for one of these teams. But I think Blackburn have also got the opportunity to show that here you can be playing for a top team, too.” - Roque Santa Cruz.
It is no surprise that Santa Cruz was gushing in his praise for Bentley; after all, the right winger had just set up two goals for the Paraguayan striker in Blackburn’s 3-1 win over Wigan on Saturday. This was yet another performance at Ewood Park which confirmed that Bentley is well on the way to becoming one of England’s brightest talents.
This week, praise for the former Arsenal winger came from an ironic source – David Beckham. "You have got to have personality to succeed at this level and he has definitely got that. He's a good lad, a London lad and he is very funny with it."
The similarities between the two Davids are clear to see. Both are London boys who have made their name in the north-west on a game based on hard work, a delicious right-foot and high proficiency from dead-ball situations. The question now being asked is whether the sentimental calls for Beckham to gain his 100th cap are coming at the expense of the development of younger players such as Bentley.

instead of cutting Beckham off from England all together, like you are keenly suggesting, while he is still obviously can offer a lot for England, why not play both Becks and Bentley together?? as you said...Bentley is very comfortable in a free role..so why not put him in the middle while keeping Becks on the right side at the same time? we don't have to sack one of the two good players, in this case it's Becks obviously, while England is really SHORTAGE with very good international players and midfielders. yes...a player can be nurtured from game to game, but in international games the players only meet up for at least 4 or 5 times a year, unlike the clubs games, and that's why we have to choose only VERY good players to play for the national. after all..between the two, Becks has proven so many times at the highest level that he has the talent and ability, and he had just won a League title with the biggest/best club in the world in just 9 months ago for god sake!! that's a prove of Becks if you really crave one. so...by putting Becks in the team, like Fabio Capello said, he can give something to the team, like, maybe teaching Bentley how to have more respect among players, especially to the players senior from him if he wants other people to respect him back, not to forget the respect towards England shirt too whenever and where ever you have been called, and how to maintain their game of play in the crucial time against the better teams. about Becks blocking Bentley, you don't have to worry much - in two years time, maybe after the WC where Bentley of course will be playing as the regular player, Becks will be gone forever from the international scene (as a player of course) and Bentley can have and play whatever role he wants to play in the England shirt...if he is still "that" good and no other player to challenge his place like he does to Becks. be patient my friend...just two years and Bentley will get a lot more benefits if he is patient too! heck, he got TWO more of World Cups and maybe THREE more of Euro Cups ahead of him...by the time he reach the 2nd WC, he'll be 33 yrs old, and by the time the 3rd Euro, he'll be 35 at the time...and if you're not questioning about his inclusion then, then i'll accuse you of bias, hypocrite, and injustice towards Becks' inclusion this time. Capello knows more than Bentley..and you. trust me. ;D

Why can't Beckham play and simply mentor Bentley? Or vice versa? The experienced hand to groom his heir is the perfect way to handle this situation so its not a case of who versus who. Both should be the option on the right hand side and play based on tactical needs.

I reckon given time Bentley could be a very good player. Unfortunately that won't happen at Blackburn, no disrespect meant, but clearly he would have to go somewhere else to get really noticed, a team that plays Champions League football rather than dreaming of the UEFA Cup.

Ok so Beckham is having a 100th cap engineered for him! What's the point! Haul him off at half-time and put Bentley on, he's the future! Beckham is the past!
