The Gunners boss has worked wonders at the Emirates this season with such a young squad, so why are some people so quick to criticise him?
'In the space of just five games, Wenger went from being the best thing since sliced bread to being the man who had wrecked Arsenal's season by letting Henry leave'
Why is it that some football fans can be so two-faced? I am an Arsenal fan and I continue to support the team whether we win or lose.
With the departure of Thierry Henry to Barcelona last year, I would say that about 95 per cent of soccer analysts doomed us to a season of mediocrity before we had even kicked a ball.
They questioned whether Arsene Wenger was right to let his star man leave. Then they started to question whether Wenger would stay at the club himself, leaving most Gooners holding their breath.
But when the season kicked off, suddenly everybody was amazed at just how well his young stars were doing, leading the league from the get go. Arsenal's kids were playing a brand of football that was truly exciting - I know I couldn't wait for the weekend to arrive to see the boys play.
I couldn't get enough and I would presume most Arsenal fans felt the same way. Wenger was a genius again - a manager who could do no wrong. We were still sat on top of the league come the end of 2007 and everything was great.
Then came the unfortunate injury to Eduardo at Birmingham, which coincided with a dip in performances from the team. Suddenly the critics were back in full voice. In the space of just five games, Wenger went from being the best thing since sliced bread to being the man who had wrecked Arsenal's season by letting Henry leave.
Never mind that we beat AC Milan in their own back yard just a couple of weeks previously. Never mind the defeat at Fortress Stamford Bridge last weekend was only our second league reverse of the entire season - a record unmatched by any other team in all four divisions.
What this current Arsenal team has is real character. How many times have they gone behind in a match but still managed to come away with a point or more?
So we might not win the league this year. Big deal. There was more than one season that we didn't win the league when we had the immense talent of Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg in the side. But we did make the Champions League final in that time. When was the last time Fergie's Man United were there? And all the roubles in the world didn't get Chelsea there.
We are still in with a chance of winning the Premier League AND the Champions League this year so, my fellow Gooners, give your team all the support you can. They need it now more than ever.
