The English Premier League can boast some of the best players and some of the best clubs and, without doubt, the best supporters.
There are, of course, some very average teams and players still within the league but even those teams (Bolton, for example) have gone into Europe this season and have out-performed most teams they have played. What is this down to?
Is it the style of play? English football has long been known as a the league with the fastest football. The pace of the game compared to other leagues is very marked. This is shown when foreign players come into the league and you see just how long it takes most of them to get used to the game.
Most players are well into their second season before you tend to see the best of them, and every one of them, to a man, will tell you just how much quicker it is. It's not just the speed that needs adapting to but also the type of play most teams use and how much work is put into set plays; both attacking and defending them.
