Shittu-or-bust Boothroyd is making me embarrassed to be a Watford fan
The Hornets still look good for at least the play-offs in the Championship so why does this supporter feel the need to share his anger and frustration?

I have written and re-written this piece several times since I first started typing on Saturday night.
How can athe fan of a team in fifth place in the Championship, just four points from automatic promotion with a game in hand and with four home games to come in their last six feel as embarrassed, humiliated and angry as I do?
I have been at the bottom before and I get really upset when fans of teams at the top start complaining. I laugh when we hear talk of crisis at Chelsea or Arsenal. Oh, for a crisis such as theirs!
But the simple fact is that, as a Watford fan, I do feel angry and embarrassed. I don’t think I’m on my own, either. I feel disloyal talking like this when we still have a chance of automatic promotion and a really good shot at the play-offs, but there is only so much a fan can take. I’ll try to explain why.

As a fellow Watford fan I well understand your frustration - we are profoundly mediocre right now - but your criticism of the January signings damages the credibility of the rest of your piece. Bromby, Sadler and Eustace have been excellent since they joined, with Eustace particularly impressive. He didn't "lose his head' against Stoke - he was harshly sent off by the useless Rob Styles who further reinforced his uselessness with further terrible decisions at the weekend.

...as DP says that was a very decent article somewhat undermined by your criticism of the January signings. Aidy may have made some shocking transfer signings in his time here but those three went a long way to rectifying that situation. Eustace has seen plenty of the ball, as have the other two too - and he certainly wasn't sent off through 'frustration' 20 mins into a game we were dominating with some grounded non-hoofball passing...

What really gets me when he puts Shitto up front is the snub to decentish strikers on the bench (weve not seen enough to rate them properly) is the lack of confidence to them this action must give. Frankly I am being to feel that Aidy is a one dimenional manager with no idea as to how to change tactics when needed.

as a watford fan i see no problem with shittu going up front as apart from king and henderson (who are both unavailible_ king gone and hendo out suspended) he is our top scorer. the 3 winter signings have also been very useful. who cares how we play as long as we make promtion

Well written Graham. Didn't go to Hull but I think we've really had it coming for some time and our style of play is not good against a team that plays the same way. I too am really frustrated as it would be much better to WLWLWL rather than DDDDDD, but I believe Aidy does have a plan should we be able to bluff our way into the premiership, I'm hopeful if we win in the play-offs (automatic now looks unlikely) that we'll get Lita, Jinky Johnson and a new keeper immediately and I believe these deals will be lined up ready to go. My only concern is that Aidy has lost his mentor in Burkinshaw so he really needs to be his own man and show his skills as a young manager who knows his stuff. I have met Mr Simpson and Aidy on a number of occaisions and he will clearly be given loads of time - as long as he doesn't lose the dressing room like RL did.

Henderson had buried those 2 pens we would be feeling a lot different - Boothroyd said earlier that it is a game of inches - and he is right - its not over yet

Mentioning his name in the same breath as Ashley Young and Marlon King has an undermining effect of its own! I'm willing to wait until the end of the season before I comment on Boothroyd. Its been up and down, but I actually don't think we deserve a lot of the criticism leveled at us by other teams - especially this new trend of calling us a team of bullies. And really... can you honestly say this is worth than the last season Boothroyd's predecessor delivered us? OK the circumstances were different, but at least we've picked up a few point this season.
