What exactly are Arsenal missing that would make them the most amazing team in the world?
The stumbling Gunners are now hardly recognisable from the team who swept all before them earlier this season – so what's gone wrong?

Arsenal once again have left their steaming form behind. From a formidable side, they have dropped their form and are now losing and drawing with teams who are nothing in stature compared to the Gunners.
Arsenal, of course, have the best, or one of the best, starting line-ups in England and the world, but as the season progresses everything seems to go wrong. They were making a complete mockery of every side they played at the start of the season,. Now, however, teams they would have beaten 3-0 at that stage are actually coming away with more and more points.
Let’s have a look at the Birmingham match – Arsenal were going sweetly until something of a miracle happened for Birmingham, Gael Clichy wasn’t paying attention and Birmingham's Stuart Parnaby nipped in and was then tackled excellently by Clichy although the ref didn’t see it that way…
Is it something to do with luck that Arsenal every season seems to take their foot off the gas for a little bit too long? No, it’s that Arsenal don’t have the superb squad that Manchester United or Chelsea have.
Wenger has a squad with bundles of talent and everything needed to be the best of the best in the Premier League, although they don’t have the experience of the Manchester United players. They don’t have the depth of talent or the subs who can come on and win matches for them.

First of all they did not sweep all before them. That is just plain wrong. And as for the they have one of the best starting line-ups in the world line compare theirs with uniteds and see who would get on. Almunia- no. Clichy- no Evras far superior. Sagna- lol. Crybaby gallas-Ferdinand. Enough said there. Toure- Vidic is the best centre back in the league, not a chance son. Rosicky- Ronaldo walks that one easily lol. Hleb- Matter of opinion but i'd rather have Nani, more end product. Fabregas- Bottler, one good game in the last 20, scholesy any day of the week. Flamini- No way, Anderson and Carrick are superior technically while still producing in terms of work rate. Bendtner- Complete goat, not even mid-table quality, Tevez easily wins that place. Adebayor- Good player at times still not a patch on Rooney though. And there you have why United are now, and always will be superior to the arse

THEGREATEST bunch of Mugs. Sagna is the most consistant full back in the PL, even his assist record is quality for his first year. anderson and carick over flamini? he runs at least 8 miles a game.

A world class goal keeper and a world class striker is what is missing.
by jrockdc on April 08, 2008
hey Greatest, since you obviously can't be objective as true football fans are, let me give it a shot. VanDer Sar and Almunia are even in my opinion. I would take Ferdinand and Vidic as my center pairing. Sagna and Clichy are the best RB and LB in the league end of story. We will see who picks up the accolades for those positions at the end of the season. Midfield I would have Ronaldo, Cesc, Flamini, and Hleb. Up front Adebayor and Rooney. If Van Persie is healthy he is better than Rooney, no doubt. There's an objective evaluation for ya.

Almost the same lineups in both teams for the past 18 months, or more or less, so how come Uth have only managed 1 draw in the leauge out of three with tis "superior" team.
by Arsenal the greatest miller on April 08, 2008
ahah u mug arsenal have the best starting line up anyday Alumina well he is new to this sort of pressure but van der sar has a howler in him u can guarantee that he will make a mistake evra over clichy are u stupid are what clichy is far better and younger evra can only do 1 2 passes he cant dribble like clichy sagna or wes brown come on lets not say nomore lol u say cry baby gallas but how much did we pay 4 him ferdidnad is utter shit without vidic who is a shit hole he as no left foot toure is a class defender pace and power only ronaldo would get into our team the rest no chaaaanccee

No one wants to admit but this is where Arsenal is missing TH14

... should have signed Anelka!
by connor harper on April 08, 2008
No he shouldn't have, anelka is not anything compared to any of the strikers at the moment.

Arsenal is missing a top class player like Ronaldinho, Kaka or even C.Ronaldo as hard as it is for me to say it. Arsene Wenger has done an excellent job putting together this young talented squad but they need that one play maker that every one fears. Fabregas is not there yet and Adebayour is still young and lacks big time European football experience.

They lack experience. And it has shown again tonight! That back 4 with senderos is a burst! Shame on you AW for being so weak where it matters most. This is a repeat of last 2 seasons. Dude, I think it's time for you to go and take the French manager post!

sagna isnt more consistent than wat evra is for united he is probaly the most consistent left back in the league
by Liam Daly on April 09, 2008
The biggest problem is the lack of testicular fortitude. the other top teams have an English spine who will fight tooth and nail, Arsenal have quality players, but which of them do you want in a fight? Liverpool, Mancs and Chavs lok to players like Gerrard, Rooney and Terry when the backs are up against the wall, Arsenal look to the likes of Fabregas who loves to whinge when they struggle or Gallas who cries on the field after a ad result.......a bit of a difference there

I think the reason of Arsenal's downfal this season is because Arsene Wenger always sticks with the same eleven week in and week out and the players get too tired. I think Wenger needs to strengthen if he is to be consistently challenging for trophies.
Lets be honest and say no one has given an unbiased opinion on man for man teams. Personally i'd go for, Van der Sar, Sagna, Rio, Vidic, Clichy, Ronaldo, Fabregas, Flamini, Hleb, Rooney, Adebayor. But i'm a liverpool fan so its pretty impossible for me to give an unbiased opinion as well!

In answer to the title of this article, i think there is only one solution... a RAFALUTION! muahahaha! paedo for the sack
by Deon Mcbay on April 09, 2008
Even if he does buy players they're going to be crap anyway! As intelligent as Mr. Wenger may be, he is on a budget. Senderos, Justin Hoyte, Bendtner, Gilberto Silva & Eboue all need to be replaced with Experienced players who HAVE to be above average! Players like Traore, Diaby, Walcott & Denilson can flourish as youngsters and be part of a rotating team when facing bottom leauge Clubs. This will rest the other players and they can excel when needed upon, in games that need to be won. Otherwise you will come to a conclusion that has seemed to be omnipresent in the past few seasons as the league comes to an end. I'm a Die-Hard Arsenal fan and what seems to be on the tongue's of other supporters is that there is simply no other resources when big players get injured. This is frustratingly true as all you got to do is compare the teams that do win these competitions i.e. Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool. So much more depth in the team and thus Results go their way even when pressure and injury Strikes upon them. Imagine an Arsenal that carries on playing the way they play now but with each position being filled with world class players not half hearted Rookies. A team with Three or Four Match winners. Thats a team we should hope for. At least i do.

You all might say what you want but the truth is - Wenger is a stubborn man and I think his over-intelligence is killing him. He knows the problem of the team but does nothing when he had the chance simply because he thinks so much of himself. What about the fans Wenger? Am sure very soon, the board will wash their hands away from our failure by claiming they gave Wenger 70 million pounds to purchase quality players but he rejected it. But you know what? That money is actually on condition, lets say he spent it and yet he failed, then what would have happened? Where I feel Wenger made his mistakes was when he sold Diara. How could you sell such a good player without bringing in another good player? Right after he sold him, we started having injuries and our reserves are so poor that they are sure to concede large in a match. Wenger has all the best chances in the world this season to make history for himself if he had just bought 2-3 quality players and blend them to our already fine squad but he was crazily stubborn. Anyway, he is still a good coach because I can't think of any other coming to Arsenal to make us happy right now (most good managers hate us) and for those who says Ade is not good please calm down. Remember that Ade lifted us most part of this season and that shows how good he is. Wenger should just change the defense line after this season because they just can't play together. Like the writer said - they are quality defenders individually but they lack proper understanding of themselves and the reason is because our defense lacks leadership capacity. Have you ever noticed how Flamini used to direct his defense line in the midfield towards the back line by pointing his fingers to the direction he wants his team mate to cover whenever we were under attack? That is what is missing among our 4 defenders and watching Flamini do this shows the leadership quality in him. That's why Fab-Flam combination looks superb this season.

Arsenal do have a good goalie- Almunia. it's the 4 idiots standin infront of him. Sanga's good, cliches good, toures good, gallas is good, sendoros is crap!!! they are all good but not world class. but i do have to agree with you about the striker, adebayor is crap, we need someone who can controll the ball
by Fred Longbottom on April 09, 2008
Houllier said it: Arsenal need a bit more maturity and power, which would come with two or three 27-year old transfers (or waiting three years). Chelsea and Manure had been buying up all top class youthful power (Essien, Mikel, Anderson to add to Rooney, Ronaldo, Lampard and Drogba) and pushing up transfer prices just as Arsenal sell Vieira and begin rebuilding around cheaper albeit technically gifted lightweights which Wenger then runs into the ground and fatigue and injuries and mental mistakes start to add up. This partly explains why AW persists with Eboue and Diaby but not in their preferred positions - for their power, not that they use it particularly wisely. Wenger likes to gamble, as does Ferguson. Ferguson got luckier this season with Ronaldo's incredible form offsetting gambles on Van der Sar, young Brazilians, old legs of Giggs and Scholes and Wes Brown at right back. Looking at it that way, all Arsenal needed was someone to come into form over the final third of the season (apart from Walcott); but the three candidates Van Persie, Rosicky, and Eduardo were all badly injured. With an in-form player several important results could have been different (even with linesmen gifting Chelsea their first goal, writing off Adebayor's against Middlesbrough, and four or five very unfortunate penalty decisions). As good results lead to good results (confidence, less tired legs, referees giving benefit of doubt, fans not moaning), the season still be looking promising.

you must be a complet mad man, helb is one of the world best player. i think u on drugs
by connor harper on April 09, 2008
hmm, I have never been fully sure about hleb. He seems to go through to many patches of playing good then shit, Arsenal shouldn't have players like that, they are a TOP TOP class team, but certain players are just not old enough and don't have the maturity needed for 90 minutes at anfield. Think about that starting line up in the mids, Diaby, flamini, fabregas, eboue..... Is there someone there at the moment that can win us a match? I'm an Arsenal supporter and I even don't think we have the spine of a team competing in all four tornaments, the main reason arsenal fail in the priemere league is that of the squad size, compare it to any other team?! Most other teams in out standered have players that come of the bench and cause trouble, the only person that we have at the moment would be walcott, but we don't want to put too much pressure on him, or all this waiting couold be worthless. Last night something was different about him, rather then loosing control or doing something pathetic with the ball, he went on a incredible run.... and knocked over players, something a player of his stature shouldn't be doing, there was control and power in the run, something has made me a true believer that he is finally living up to the enourmous expectations that we have all placed on him since his 12 million pound move to the north london club. Maybe wenger should be replaced for the long term success? I'm not entirely sure on anything that will have the desired effect on the arsenal team
