Great Scot! Preston's Alan Irvine looks to be from the same mould as a certain Manchester United legend
North End were down and out when Irvine took charge. The appointment was a gamble, but he has been a revelation at Deepdale. Now the only question is just how far can he take them?

There is always much talk in the media about the top managers in Football - Rafa Benitez, Arsene Wenger et al appear on the back pages of our newspapers on a daily basis.
Managers of teams at the bottom are put under very close scrutiny, and everyone knows about successful up-and-coming bosses. We all know, for example, what a fantastic job Paul Ince is doing at MK Dons and Gary Johnson is doing at Bristol City.
But there is one man who has achieved a minor miracle about whom I have seen little written.
Alan Irvine has managed to turn things around at Preston, transforming them from a club seemingly doomed to relegation into a mid-table side looking up rather than down.

I think that Alan Irvine is a quiet and composed manager who, to quote the old cliche, takes every game as it comes. I get the impression that, like David Moyes, he is a student of the game. Not only does he know the tactics he wishes to use, but I feel sure he will put together a squad who will be able to comply with his wishes. But Irvine has done more than this, he has brought the Club up by its bootlaces. I get the impression that he does not suffer fools gladly and it would have been interesting to see how he would have dealt with the rotten apples and the Carlo Nash saga. I think I, and most of you, know the answer to that. He obviously is at ease with the players, the coaching staff and the backroom boys as well as the directors. Is he a good manager or just a flash in the pan was the headline of the article? Only time will tell on that one, but I feel that he has done enough in the last 5 months for me to believe that Preston North End FC are going places. Many thanks Mr. Irvine

alan irvine has steadyed the ship no doubt, to call him a good manager to soon isn't right though. i have no doubts about his abillaty as a manager or coach but north end always look for a cheap option...moyes,davies. what will happen if irvine makes ago of it at pne....exactly, he gose and pne blood someone else! its hardly inspiring if your a north end fan i'm sad to say. they have loose fittings at north end, the minute your close to any kind of success the rug gets pulled. derek shaw is creaming a salary off north end and his ambition is that pne hold there position in the division. he's renting accomadation to player sand staff under a company called freinds of preston north end which charges over the odds, but who sanctions it? correct, the friends of pne. good luck alan irvine but your in charge of a club that can't go anywhere but static or down. my fullest sympathy gose to you and OUR staff, as a fan we pay for them, you and dereks investments. god bless sir tommy a legend.
