Was Liverpool's victory over Arsenal the best Champions League game ever?
Their quarter-final had everything - action, drama, goals, a sizzling atmosphere and top-quality football from top-quality players. An absolute stone-cold classic.

If anyone has seen a better match over the past few years than the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie between Liverpool and Arsenal, then I’d like to hear about it.
I have no particular affiliation to either team but, boy, was it a cracker! If you’re looking for a reason why ITV and Sky fork out millions for the right to screen these matches, then here was the perfect reason.
This was the biggest, most thrilling rollercoaster, emotion-ridden, nerve-wracking, gut-wrenching, toe-curling, hair-raising, heart-stopping, emotion-charged match since... er, Androcles took on the lion!
And what a wonderful response to the Neanderthals who were saucy enough to suggest that a two-day dose of Portsmouth, West Brom, Cardiff and Barnsley in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley was just what the game needed. Yuck!!

Liverpool were done...they were saved by a non penalty given...and in the first leg by a penalty not given...they are a chickenshit, cowardly, non football-playing side not even deserving of fourth in the EPL....this result does a disservice to Arsenal and the footballing world in general.

The best CL game ever will be Roma's 3-0 win tonight with a last-gasp own goal by Gary Neville.

the above comment coming from a manc is testimony to how many arsenal supporters are feeling today-their is no doubt in my mind the tie was decided by two v.dodgy penalties-however,if the luck isn't with you-you're bollocksed!wenger clearly since his days at monaco has none-benitez on the other hand has it by the shed load

Mancs need to realise - no-one cares what they think. Even after fifteeen years of domestic domination, they are still so bitter, jealous, and if they are honest- in awe of Liverpool in Europe. Sorry manc, but there's no way you're drivel can take the shine from another glorious Anfield European night - the kind of night that all mancs dream about - but never get to experience. C'mon Roma - C'mon Barca

How in gods name were Liverpool beaten? The won the game, they're in the semis - so that suggests to me that they one. If they were a non football playing side then what was that I was watching last night? It certainly wasn't the crap you see at Old Trafford, it was a fantastic European night and as always Liverpool was at the centre of it. This is something the Mancs can only aspire to. C'mon the 'Pool!!!
how many games have arsenal been unfairly cheated out of this season? One too many!
even though I'm a manc I feel arsenal deserve to feel aggrieved. I'd much rather like to play arsenal in the final than the chavs and the scousers. It would have been a great game of football and we could have won 4-0 again.

liverpoolfc is the best team that represents England.Man U ,Arsenal, and chelsea are just like teams from eastern europe, lions in their domestic competions and checken in europe!! Just look at Man U history in europe!!! Alot of money spent, shit results!!!
by Harry Balls on April 09, 2008
Not sure how a game with a decisive soft penalty can be considered the best ever.
Man U is the english version of Glasgow Rangers of Scotland, great achievements domesticly,a laughing stock in europe!! Big mega store.big stadium, big team, big mouth and avery small history in europe!! Oh, come on UEFA , bring back the Winners cup winners competiton so that Man U,Arsenal, and chelsea can have some realistic chance of winning something in europe!!

It was a great game, Liverpool were not at their best initially as they probably didnt know what to play for, a win or a draw. But when Arsenal scored it was after that when Liverpool dominated the game. You could see the urgency with Liverpools play. I have to say Liverpool could have played better had we played with a normal right back who is prepared to push forward as well as one winger. Bennys tactics almost backfired initially due to this defensive team selection. Liverpool against chelsea will be a different situation though. Arsenal are by far a better footballing side than chelsea, and much trickier for Liverpool. Chelsea do not play it as fast as arsenal, in fact few teams do, so this will make it 'slightly' easier. Chelseas strength though is Drogba, he is always a threat. I dont think chelsea are as strong as they were when they had the flair of Duff and Robben. Defensively they look a bit weaker as well. I think the strongest team left in teh competition is UTD, without a doubt. Their attacking 3 or 4 players is balanced by a robust defence. No other team has the balance that UTD have, even Liverpool are a few £20m players short.

What a match!! see you at the semis u scousers, even though anyone with a brain could tell arsenal were very hard done by and neutrals will have to settle for the average football liverpool plays. Im still confused at why adebayor is still starting? the guy needs 20 chances to score, and sendeross....well he pretty much cost u the match hahaha. We wont let liverpool through in the semis, no one wants to see that final!
by imli aier on April 09, 2008
definitely not the best champions league game if you talk about free flowing football as the ball was mostly confined to midfield as both sides made countless mistakes.... but if your talking about pressure and thrill,,,definitely right up there!!!!

Liverpool are Europe's highest scorers. Not bad for a boring, average team....

Was it the best ever Euro game? No, decidedly not. Exciting last 20 minutes or so, that's all.

Arsenal were robbed simple as... i simply could not believe my eyes when after yet another long ball Pool were givted a peno... Manc is rite, the most non-footballing side left in the CL... What pool fans saw last nite was a lesson in how to play by arsenal... some of the stuff arsenal played, pool will never come near.. ManU are the only others capable of it.... Liverpool long ball shit and it will discredit the CL if they go on to win
by tom hallahan on April 10, 2008
Eoin - are you a bitter blue. the only lesson learned by Liverpool last night was that they can come back and beat ANYONE. Whereas Arsenal learned lessons in the following; How to score How to grind out and hang on to a result How to pick yourselves up during adversity rather than dropping your head How much fans and atmosphere can influence the team. Lessons that if heeded will get Arsenal that CL they so desperately want. But not this year - this year is all Liverpool, and all the bitter blue-noses, mancs and chavs can't do a thing about it. Can't wait till next season, singing "we've won it SIX times".

Hello, to all the people cursing Liverpool for winning the match based on penalties - a win is a win! We don't have any control over what the referee does - he decided to award us a penalty and the ref last week wrongly decided not to award Arsenal one. This doesn't mean you have a go at Liverpool. Babel was contacted in the box, and it was a penalty. Hleb was contacted and I feel for Arsenal because they should have had a penalty. However to some extent every football team that is going to win something needs luck. How do you think Man Utd win competitions? They get dodgy penalties and handball let-offs ALL the time! And I'm taking all the bitter comments from mancs as their way of trying to hide that they're scared of facing us in finals :) (if you manage to get past Barca)
