Is Liverpool's Champions League stranglehold over Chelsea about to be broken?
Unless Rafa Benitez and Avram Grant throw caution to the wind, we could be in for another prolonged chess match when the two clubs meet later this month. Liverpool hold the psychological edge but a determined Chelsea will surely show up for the party this time.

After the excitement of two exciting quarter-final ties wore off, Football fans were faced with the bleak realisation that Chelsea and Liverpool will face off again in the Champions League semi-finals.
They met last season at the semi-final stage and the 1-1 aggregate score was only marginally more exciting than the previous semi-final in 2005. Out of the four games played in the Champions League semi-finals, there has been a combined total of three goals in 390 minutes.
These two teams have produced some remarkably poor football in their meetings over the last few seasons. They have already played three times this season and it would be fair to say that they have hardly been classics. The recent 0-0 draw in the Premier League was about as bad an advert for the so-called “best league in the world” as the marketing men from Serie A or La Liga could have wished to see.

Everyone said the 2nd leg on tuesday was going to be boring thanks to liverpools tactics, but that turned out to be quite the opposite! I'm hoping its going to be 180 minutes of thrilling football and theres every chance it could be, but if i was asked to stake my mortgage on it, i'd say there'll be less than 3 goals over the two legs. Benitez definately had a psycological edge over Mourinho, but with Grant leading the chelsea charge more than competently in Europe, it could be a difficult two games for Liverpool. Lets just hope it doesnt end up being decided by a Fat Frank deflection!

...or for that matter, let's hope it isn't decided by a penalty given because Ashley Cole coughs in the general direction of a Liverpool ballboy and 40,000 Anfield muppets bray for a spot-kick.

As with the two previous meetings, the Liverpool players will be much fresher having nothing else to play for. Just like last season, Utd and Chelsea went toe to toe slugging it out to the last with no rest for the players. Liverpool, no doubt will rest several big time players for the semis, why not? It would be interesting to see who they would approach it IF they were challenging for the prem but they never are so forget it.

I think that Chelsea is going to beat liverpool and proceed to the final.
yeah thats true... it must be absolutely soul destroying to be knocked out by a legitimate penalty after being beat quite convincingly over two legs by a far superior outfit

Did I just read a Chelsea fan accusing another team of theatrics? I mean, Didier Drogba is competing at the summer olympics for the Cote d'Ivoire diving team.

As a Liverpool fan, its all getting a little bit boring now about people whinning and whinning on about Liverpool playing boring football....SO WHAT?? My answer is that our trophy haul over the last 7-8 years suggests we couldnt give a f**k. (not to mention being involved in 3 of the best finals ever, I mean they where boring too right?) Answer me this, would you rather have you team playing this 'pretty football' your teams are so adept at playing and lose, or grind results out, whichever way, and win trophies? I'm hoping its envy on your parts...because surely you cant be that be that stupid?

First two semi-finals saw a penalty kick decider and 1 goal that may or may not have crossed the line. It's time for Chelsea to be courted by Lady Luck.

I think chelsea will come with a heart of revage, and hunger.but over the 2 legs they mait go throu. GOD bless the bleus.

alfred, you can bring as much 'revage' as you want but theres no chance you 'mait' go through, your gunna get smahsed by a bunch of scousers who may be dumb as shit but will still have better spelling and grammar than yourself and the rest of the russian sellouts.

look, no doubt that the two games were really tight, but i reckon these two games are gonna be a little different. liverpool have now got new players like torres and babel. and 'the special one' is no longer at stamford bridge. these two games will be different games to the ones you saw in the semis last season, i am pretty sure.
