Give Manchester United's contempt for officials the red card - and get some respect into football
The manner in which football players treat referees is despicable – unseen in any other sporting code. What penalties need to be implemented to stop this insidious practice?

Recently, PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor has suggested an exclusion zone around the men who, quite simply, are there to control the game. Maybe a force field would suffice.
Another name for these game controllers is officials. The certified representatives whom, according to the laws of the game and the conduct of the code; ensure that acts of illegality – both towards the laws of the game and the laws of the world - do not occur.
But in football the lack of respect shown to referees is nothing short of astonishing, considering not only the parameters of society, but also in comparison to other sports.
The incidents are numerous, the one that is foremost in recent history, is the now infamous confrontation of Andy D’Urso by Manchester United players. At the kingdom of Old Trafford, Middlesbrough were awarded a penalty after a tackle by Jaap Stam. Roy Keane then led a lynch mob, joined by United luminaries Gary Neville and Nicky Butt, to chase down D’Urso and challenge the decision.

I love the way this anti Man Utd fan, uses only Man Utd examples. Going back as far as Jaap Stam's days. Take a look at the modern game! You've missed alot!!

James is a rugby fan and his articles are eloquent and well balanced. However a slither of a comparison between the two sports is of no point. Its part of the game and its too late to implement new rules.Such rules should have been carefully planned years ago.We all have to accept that the law of averages usually mean,in football anyway, that everything balances out in the end.Its what makes football more watchable, fluid, stupid, fun, bizarre, frustrating, scary and the most entertaining and accessible sport on the planet.
I dont think Mr Mortimer has watched it for a while!!! Stick to rugby mate, you know what your talking about there...........i think??????

why not give blinkered biased bloggers the contempt they deserve and give them a straight red instead.
United are not perfect, who/what is? Seriously, if you are going to write an article like that at least try not to show your hate for one club! It doesn't prove popular!

they should start docking points for back-chatting and hurranging refs, utd are not the only club but they are by far the worst, if they did start docking points then i can quite honestly say that man utd would be relegation candidates for sure.

rooney should have been sent off for his petulent tackle and back chattin the ref after he was " routhlessly sithed down" albeit with a slight delayed reaction. embarrassing for the lad.
