Best team in the Championship, but can West Brom stay the Premier League course?
All the pundits agree that the Baggies are the top outfit in the second tier, but there's no guarantee they won't be just another Derby County if they do get promoted.

When West Brom play at Norwich tomorrow, they will know that a win will see them almost certainly promoted in one of the automatic places. With games to come at home to struggling Southampton and at a QPR side with nothing to play for, three points here should see them home.
At the start of the season, the Baggies were everybody’s favourites to go up. They have been called the best footballing side in the division by just about every expert and pundit in the media. "Player for player," we have constantly been told, "they are the best team by a mile."
For a long while it didn’t look as though they were going to live up to their billing but, with a bit of help from their friends at the top of the league who have been unable to string two wins together, West Brom have finally got their noses in front.
So is it a fact that the cream has finally risen to the top?

this is the best team we have had in many many years, with players like, gera, koren, brunt, teixeria, millier and phillips we shouldnt have any problems in the premier league. I pursonally think brunt will shine and be our very best player in the premier league

I really doubt whether we will be able to swing it in the Premiership, unless there is an influx of new players, particulary in defence. Premiership sides would tear our leaky defence to pieces. I like many baggies fans believe that this is by far the best side and manager we have had for many a year. But that defence needs to be improved to give us a chance at the top.

Over the past season we at the Hawthorns have been witness to the rise of a new and shining light in English football management. Tony (mogga) Mowbray may be a footballing god In Ipswich and Middlesbrough for his ‘on the field’ no nonsense leadership qualities. As West Brom’s manager however, he has endeared himself to footy fans with a brand of beautiful, free flowing ‘TOTAL’ football rarely seen outside top flight. After slipping to defeat in the play off finals to Derby at the end of last season, Mowbray disassembled a squad not his own, but widely regarded as the best in the league. Selling players such as Mcshane, Kamara, Kumas and Davis, who it seemed to the casual observer, felt they were bigger than the club they played for. Then came the influx of new players, Miller on loan from Man City, Bednar on loan from Hearts, Brunt, Morrison, Teixeira, all attack minded, all good with the ball at their feet. Since the first game of the season Mowbrays boys haven’t failed to entertain the Baggies faithful. Even if they have failed to keep the ball out of their own net fifty odd times so far, the one hundred and odd goals scored in all competitions this season makes the Hawthorns entrance fee well worth paying. So do I (a fanatical Baggies fan) feel the Albion could survive a season in the Prem. Answer... ‘IN MOWBRAY WE TRUST!’

don't get me wrong.i want to win promotion just as much as the next man.but what then?will our season hinge on scraping home wins against the likes of reading and west ham? we can't compete with the big boys anymore.none of us can.so whats the point? at this moment in time,we are the championships answer to the brazil side of 1970. never again will we see the likes of forest, ipswich or villa storm the top flight.although promotion is the supposed holy grail, what would you rather have?a big fish in a small pond(championship)or premiership whipping boys? either way, hats off to mogga and the boys this season for the cracking entertainment. and if we do go up,i hope we adopt the same shit-or-bust mentllity we have now and not disgrace our selves like derby have.come on you baggieboys!

What those people condemning the standard of the championship seem to ignore is how poor the bottom of the prem is. I'm not convinced that any of the bottom 6 of the prem would be walking this division and I doubt Derby, Fulham or Bolton would even be in the top 6. Of course we would need some new players but Mowbray has shown an ability to identify talented players and to learn from his mistakes. I have every confidence in him to sort the defence out next season, whichever division we end up in.
