Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley is said to favour a summer move to Liverpool.A whole host of clubs, including Chelsea and Newcastle, are reported to be monitoring the 23 year-old, but sources close to the player have revealed that he has his heart set on a switch to Anfield. This will come as a blow to Blackburn manager Mark Hughes, who sees the player as an integral part of the club’s future.‘Bentley, who has made clear his intention to displace David Beckham, feels that a move to the Reds would significantly enhance his international prospects’Bentley, who has made clear his intention to displace David Beckham and secure a permanent berth on the right of England’s midfield, feels that a move to the Reds would significantly enhance his international prospects.Liverpool need only two more points from their remaining three games to secure a Champions League berth again next season, while Blackburn look certain to miss out on a UEFA Cup spot.Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez will have funds available to move for Bentley in the summer, despite simmering tensions within the club at boardroom level. It is also thought the Spaniard is looking to offload winger Jermaine Pennant who, despite scoring at the weekend, has struggled to keep down a regular place in the side this season.

I think Bentley would be a great buy, but only for the right price. I also think we should sign Villa or Aguero, Rafinha, Lahm, Barry and Modric.
by liverpoolrulez on April 21, 2008
Why are we being linked with Barry (?12M) when we can get Flamini for free? I know Flamini is wanted by many clubs but maybe we can offer him a better contract.
by jose walker on April 21, 2008
BENTLEYl will be a good buy as long as PLAYING FOR LiVERPOOL IS HIS GOAL AND NOT TRYING TO GET IN ENGLANDS TEAM OWEN AND TO A LESSER DEGREE CROUCH FOUND OUT THE MATCH GOING KOPITES DO NOT GIVE A FLYING F---K ABOUT ENGLAND and if you put England first you leave the club

he will adapt and he will be a much better player than pennant as he is already an international whereas pennant is not even one. i think barry too must be bought as he is world class .At LM and RM we have the two players we wanted.only players we should buy are rafinha, lahm and huntelaar.
Wat about this lineup.. Reina (Itandje), Rafinha (Arbeloa), Carragher (Hyypia), Agger (Skrtel), Lahm (Aurelio), Masherano (Lucas), Flamini (Alonso), Gerrard (Benayoun), Modric (Kuyt), Babel (Young or Bentley), Torres (Crouch).. Thoughts?

y do we get linked with SO many midfielders...we wood only sing ONE if alonso goes...simple as that....we NEED to focus on are wings..no point buying villa wen we got gerrard playing just off torres wat means i doubt we will sign a striker (unless for a impact player)
by Nozzy on April 21, 2008
Well he'd be an okay signing, as long as he was the right price. Anything approaching £14 million is too much IMO. £10 million plus Pennant I think would be fair. Same goes with Barry, all this talk of swapping him for Crouch is crazy when Crouch should be worth more!!

Flair for god's sake. Flair. Not grit. Not strength. Flair is what we are missing.
by georgio toolman on April 21, 2008
another reason liverpool will never win the prem. i don't think bentley is a bad player but he aint somebody who will bring the prem title to anfield, the trouble with liverpool is they've been shopping for shi1 for too long. pennant is a good example along with kewell. torres is world class but if he isn't backed up by proven winners then he'll be off.
by Yogi on April 22, 2008
Right Bentley may be a good signing and it's a position that will need strengthening as Pennant is almost certain to be gone. On to other matters Liverpoolrulez, interesting team list but I will cry if Itandje ever plays for us again he's woeful, you also reckon we might sign Rafinha (likely) Lahm (HOW I WISH but no chance) Flamini (possible but unlikely) Modric (nope) and Bentley (good chance) or Young (no chance). This makes 5 players which would cost about £40 million at least one question where do we get the money? Nozzy I agree that ordinarily Crouch would be worth more than Barry but Crouch has one year left on his contract and seems disinclined to extend that deal so his value has dropped accordingly. Finally Andrew did you ever watch Rafa's Valencia, god they were boring at times but they were great at what they did and there was little flair in that team. Rafa is a man who puts a high premium on hard work and this is why he doesn't really trust the flair players.

liverpoolrulez . How bout this line up? Reina (Amelia), Rafinha (Arbeloa), Skertel (Hypia), Agger (Carragher), Lahm (Aurelio), Mashcerano (Lucas), Queresma (Alonso), Gerrard (Lulinha/Aimar), Modric (Babel), Torres (Crouch), Villa (Kuyt)
by liverpoolrulez on April 22, 2008
Alright Sean Lee.. Your lineup is better than mine... But what about the cost...? For my lineup, there are 5 new players.. Rafinha (5M), Lahm (12-15M), Flamini (Free), Modric (15-18M) and Young or Bentley (12-15M).. Then we can sell Finnan (3-4M), Riise (6M), Pennant (5-6M), Voronin (3-4M) and Kewell (Free). Overall, we'll spend around 35M.. Reasonable?? Your lineup has 6 new players.. Amelia (5M-he won't play that much.. Why spend so much on him? Plus, we have Carson), Rafinha (5M), Lahm (12-15M), Quaresma (12-15M), Aimar or Lulinha (10M mayb?), Modric (15-18M) and Villa (25M). And looking at your lineup, i guess we'll be selling the SAME players.. We are going to spend around 70M!!! We don't have that much to spend i suppose... Thoughts??

Perfect...Bentley is the type of player we need on the wing...wouldn't mind Queresma as well..But if we can't have Queresma then i think Bentley would be ideal..He and Gerard can tear into defenders with Torres upfront to do the final job..YNWA!

I think the key will be who will be the owners next season, as I think that with DIC financing will be much better.
by jason collins on April 22, 2008
gareth barry (14m) excellent buy he might be but flamini for nowt ,sorry but no debate on this-flamini every time
by Mike Manning on April 22, 2008
It's interesting that Rafa is buying English players. I think he is looking to a future where uefa/fifa will insist that clubs have a nucleus of home players. Hence Bentley and Barry coming in (hopefully). I'd like to see Carson come back to Liverpool and sell Reina for 10 milllion. I think we will be well placed if the home grown players rule does come in.
by Keyser Soze on April 22, 2008
Finally.....someone has cottoned on why we're looking to buy English players. It's really not rocket science. Will all the other idiots who want half of Europe at Anfield please go and read the UEFA proposals. It is very likely they will be implemented.
by niall McFrederick on April 22, 2008
Benteley would be a sensational buy, i also like the sounf of rafinha and lahm. my main target tho is Benzema i think he shud be are number 1 target
by Crazy Wolf on April 22, 2008
Who is the mystery player who`s not English but talks good English? Flamini is a good bet, that`s for sure. It seems given that Benitez will continue to develop the Gerrard-Torres partnership next season. And that`s why it would be ideal if Crouch pens a new contract. I don`t think we`ll be paying over the odds for another world-class forward. The focus should be, and I think it is, on upgrading the flanks and the full-back positions. -LEFT BACK: Lahm has 1 year left of his contract and Bayern and would not cost 12-15mill as some suggest. -RIGHT BACK: Benitez denies interest in Rafinha. Bosingwa looks more likely. Even Lucas Neill or Brett Emerton. -LEFT WING: Silva is too expensive. Albert Riera seems like a good alternative to Babel on the left. -RIGHT WING: Modric is not a natural winger, but more of a drifting attacking midfielder. Quaresma will only come if we can strike a bargain deal. Lacks work ethos and fighting spirit. Bentley or Lennon looks more likely. Ribery would be ideal, but will cost way too much. Prediction for tonight`s game: Liverpool 4-0 Chelsea
