Kevin Keegan recently told the media of his desire to bring in "four or five players" from outside the Premier League to help Newcastle push on next season.
But these players he is following closely aren’t from La Liga or Serie A, or even the Championship. They are currently playing in the Scottish Premier League.
Keegan told journalists how there is some real talent across the border that would help strengthen his Newcastle side, adding: "You will see more and more Premier League managers looking to Scotland."
Alan Hutton and David Murphy made the Christmas switch from Scotland to the Premier League, so who could be next to try their luck in England?

I have no doubt that Daniel Cousin at Rangers and Nakamura at Celtic could play in the Premiership. Naka has not has his best season but his goal against the gers shows what he is capable of. Both teams also have excellent 'keepers in Allan MacGregor and Artur Boruc, though MacGregor is still to show his full potential.

A fair assessment. I'd say Scott McDonald would cut it too. Both teams also have excellent 'keepers in Allan MacGregor and Artur Boruc, though MacGregor is still to show his full potential.

Barry Ferguson a failure in England? He was Blackburn's best player by far, picking up the MOTM awards in 50% of games, was made captain and rejected lucrative contract improvements. The fact is he was a success in England, something commentators like "the greatest" choose to ignore in their incessant attempts to belittle Scottish football.
by THE GREATEST on April 24, 2008
He was a failure, and in fact was only signed because Souness was manager. Just the same as David Healy would have never got in the premiership if not for the bias of Sanchez. The 50% comment is just wrong. And yet again he was only made captain because Souness was there. Scottish football belittles itself sir, and has done since the days of Di Canio and thereafter King Henrik. Second rate English players look like stars in England e.g. Alan Thompson, Sutton, Hartson (Welsh but you get the point). Even Cuellar who's on that list only made it to the third tier of Spanish football, yet is rated as a star in the SPL, point made.
"Second rate English players look like stars in England".......In scotland I meant to say

As a Celtic fan I normally don't stick up for Hun players but in the face of such unabashed arrogance, I am forced to. Cuellar, for instance, made it to the top tier in Spanish football with Osasuna. Ferguson did indeed pick up many MOTM awards with Blackburn- however, that's down to Souness as well? But enough of this Rangers talk. From our side, Boruc, Nakamura, and McGeady would all be stars in the Premiership. You only have to remember their heroics against your lot to testify to that. And as for McGeady, there is no higher accolade than Maldini applauding his skills on the field of play- as he did, at Parkhead, in 2004. Take yer blinkers off- and I hope it's a Liverpool- United final, and they STUFF ya! Walk On!

"The Greatest", maybe your forgetting that just because Man U have the best players in the world that other teams in your "best league in the world" cant have slightly less good, but still good, players. As a Celtic, there is no doubt that Cuellar would make it in England. As would McGeady and (seriously one of the best keepers around at the moment) Artur Boruc. We put two past you at Old Trafford and beat you at home. Selective memory perhaps? btw, put the old firm on on Sunday to see some real fitba. Mon the Hoops!

Right I made a mistake with Cuellar, was thinking of Nacho Novo (who only made it to the third tier)- but the point remains; Cuellar could not make it in England. Much too slow. And to Danny M- Take my blinkers off? I grew up watching Celtic, although only ever really supporting them in the SPL. And "their heroics" against us was beating us 1-0 at home after we'd already qualified. Incidentally when it mattered we banged 3 in at home past Boruc. You also appear to not be able to read as in that your talking about players i named e.g. McGeady

I suppose England only has quich defenders and players like Carragher, Terry, Dunne, Upson and most of the mid and lower table defenders are blessed with pace. I am no appologist but these are the criteria you chose. Allan Thompson and Sutton (former top three scorer in the premiership) both fomer England Internationals are considered second rate English stars? strange. they may have been second rate but isn't it telling that the top clubs don't add English players to add quality. Anyway to my main point the Scttish stars may not be Premiership stars I agree but they are at least as good as most players in the Premiership and better than many in the lower clubs!!!

"the greatest" - "beating us 1-0 at home when we'd already qualified", eh? Would this be the 1-0 victory which made Celtic the FIRST team from the group to qualify from that group and leave Utd needing to avoid defeat in their final game to go through? And Chris Sutton "second-rate"? If being a Premiership winner and EPL top-scorer makes a player second rate, I'd love to hear your standards for first-rate players! As for Ignatius Novo, his first club in Scotland was second-tier Raith. I suggest you ask Ian Wright if there is something wrong with working your way up in the game. And the less said of your fatuous comments about Barry Ferguson the better.

Your so funny Novo started his career at Raith Rovers after being spotted by them as a cocktail barman :-) so when was he playing in the 3rd tier of Spain

Sorry your right he did play in Spain for a season but by the amount of goals he scores in europe he can cut it v the best

If that was the case then Dave Nugent is also, and he's most certainly not. To the Rangers fan mocking Vidic; you must be mad. Vidic is the best CB in the league, not Ferdinand contrary to popular belief. Never tries anything fancy, always stops his man. Sutton and Thompson are second rate e.g. Sutton- 1 goal in 28 games for Chelsea. Just highlighting the fact that even with all the service of a top 4 club he was still shite.

It is funny how the English like to slag off Scottish teams yet when was the last time an english side beat a scottish one. In the last few years for example Celtic have defeated Blackburn and Liverpool in the Uefa Cup, Man Utd in the Champions League (If Knockout Celtic Would Have Won On Away Goals). While Rangers have defeated Leeds in the Battle of Britain while both where Champions of respective Leagues along with Chelsea and Middlesbrough in pre-season friendlies. Ferguson would get into ANY side in England. Cuellar would get into any side in England except from Man Utd but would be there 3rd choice Centre Half and also McGregor and Boruc are better than any keeper in England except from Cech.
by Jack Leslie on April 26, 2008
You always seem to get the same hypocritical English fans who like to mock scottish players and its league. Barry Ferguson has shown with Blackburn Rovers, champions league, and of course the uefa cup that he can cut it with the best of them. Apart from the Top four of english football, Rangers and Celtic can compete anyone. They forget that we get pennies for our tv money in contrast to the premierships millions! McGregor, Boruc, Kevin Thomson who i personally think holds rangers together, King cuellar who even the great sir alex ferguson raves about. He went and watched him play with osasuna a few times last season and of course king kev is a great admirer of, these players could all hack the premiership no bother at all.
by Neil Docherty on April 28, 2008
If Chris Sutton was second rate, then how did he manage to score 50 goals in 131 appearances for Blackburn, winning the Premiership in the process? His time at Chelski was blighted by their ridiculous squad rotation policy, his record at Norwich and Blackburn before moving to Celtic speaks for itself.
by jobby mcjobby on April 28, 2008
do you watch much footbal? first off you said cuellar only made it to the third teir of spanish football which was quite rightly corrected by a more diligent fellow correspondant. then you denounced him as not premiership quality, yet during january there were no fewer than 6 prem clubs linked to him aswell as the mighty barcelona, something which kind of blows your argument out of the water. you then said the we(celtic) only beat you once you had qulified, but this wasn't accurate either. celtic were the first team to qualify out of that group courtesy of the win against your lot at parkhead. all this added to the fact you derided chris sutton(a man who proved his quality against europes elite in the shape of juve, barca, porto, liverpool, stuttgart, bayern munich, ajax among others and who both larsson and shearer credit with being their best strike partner) leads me to the conclusion that you're not much of a footie fan at all but more an inept aggitator who gets off on the attention of making wide of the mark and unsubstanciated remarks.

Averaging what is not far off a goal every three games is second rate considering he didnt contribute anything else, and he is a target man, which im sure you would know results in lots of chances. The most prolific partnership? are you mad? Shearer was prolific theres no doubt about that but not sutton as was proven before. And at that stage Chelsea were 5th, not that thats really important. Also to the gimp who said Larsson rates Sutton as his best partner lol. So what your saying is Suttons better than Eto'o? or Rooney? lmao. Larsson said last year that his best ever partner was Rooney
