Ribery, Huntelaar, Yaya Toure - Arsenal need class to back up the kids
Another season without a trophy and Arsene Wenger is under pressure to deliver. The policy of bringing through brilliant youngsters is not reaping rewards and the Frenchman's summer spending should reflect this issue.

It is really frustrating for me after watching Arsenal doing so well at the beginning of the season, in the winter and then peaking against AC Milan.
But since the 2-0 win at San Siro, they have been struggling. They were knocked out of the Champions League by a cynical Liverpool who exploited the mistakes made by Arsenal very well. I believe the Gunnersl played better over the two legs.
The bad run in the Premier League led to a dead end in the team's aspirations of becoming champions. It started before the AC Milan match where Arsenal played two draws in a row. And then after the Milan match things went from bad to worse, culminating with the defeat at Old Trafford. Hope had left the Emirates.
But enough whining. We have to look forward and learn from our mistakes so that next season we will not give away points at the end of the campaign.
I think the current squad is strong, but neither strong enough nor experienced enough. So that is why we need experienced players who have won leagues and cups and who have experience of the big games.
Good, young and fast players are what the club needs - the likes of Franck Ribery, Yaya Toure and Jan-Klaas Huntelaar come to mind.
Arsene Wenger has some spending to do if Arsenal are serious about winning a trophy next season. Bright, young players with interesting prospects are one thing, but we really need players who are at their peak who can contribute in a positive way.

Wenger in previous years has been successfull with a mixture of well known signings combined with cheap unknown youngsters bought from abroad. His failure in recent years to win anything I believe is due to a mixture of the board saving money to compensate the new stadium and Wengers pure arrogance in believing he doesnt need to sign any big name players and can still win things with the squad that hes got!

buy the best no, buy good players and make them the best.

How many on this forum believe that if Van Persie and dodo would have stayed healthy Arsenal would have lost the league? We just had a run of bad luck. Everyone needs to relax and understand that bad luck does not last forever. I think we only need a wnger and a Centerback.
by Lou Larrson on April 27, 2008
Where have you been for the last 3 seasons, RvP has been injured for most of those, so is that bad luck?? get real! Rosicky has been injured since Jan and had a history of injuries at his previous, club, is that bad luck, Wake Up!
So that season when you went unbeaten yet had a very minimal injury list, was that just LUCK then?

I cannot believe some of the comments around lately refereing to Arsenal and perticularly Arsene Wenger. The so called fans who question Arsene Wengers performance or ability to take Arsenal forward are rediculous, pathetic and not at all based in reality or truth. Firstly we will finish the season only a matter of a few points behind the Champions, whoever it might end up being. Secondly, no-one could (not even Wenger) have forseen the horrific events at Birmingham and how they would affect the team. Thirdly, we will finish this year with more points than last year when we had TH14. Fourthly, Arsene Wenger will not buy any, I repeat ANY of the names being mentioned in so many pathetic blogs. We are far more likely to hear about 1 or 2 signings of unknown names that we will learn to love. Names just like Sagna. We had never heard of him. Arsene didn't pay over the odds and he is quality. Fifthly, we will all get the four players we think we need. Two will emerge from the Youth system and two will be unknown, unheard of treasures that Wenger will unearth from some far flung league we know nothing about. So for me at least, I have faith in Arsene Wenger. I have faith in the current squad. And, I have faith in Arsene Wengers stylish, beautiful football. I have only seen a few football matches live this year but many on TV. When at Craven Cottage early in this season with Cousin Andy and Uncle Bern (both Pompey season ticket holders for more than 25years) I watched two very ordinary teams bash the ball long and high into the air for the first 10-15 minutes and thought how difficult it was going to be for me to last the next 80 minutes. Then Pompey put the ball on the ground and passed and ran Fulham off their own pitch. I left Craven Cottage thinking that the Pompey support was the best I had ever seen and that Harry was building a team worthy of that love and passion. It was also clear to me that Fulham would go down this year as they were bereft of ideas other than to kick Pompey or continue to smash the ball into the air above the Pompey players. Pompey have been very good this season and easy to watch. Fulham have been awful to watch this season. Fulham will be well suited to England's second tier competition as they have been playing football of that style and standard all of this season in preparation for next. It is my belief that the reason Mourinho was replaced is not about trophy's as his record is without equal on that front. Better than Wengers one might argue. It was not about bigger ego's or personalities than the Russian. It was about entertainment. "Schindlers List" won many trophy's as did "The English Patient". We have all seen them once and once was more than enough. "Back to the Future" and "Pulp Fiction" were never going to win any trophy's for anything, but served as great entertainment years ago and will do for many years to come. Chelsea cannot sell out their small ground in South West London for one very good reason. The football they play is effective but not at all entertaining. Arsenal on the other hand sell out their magnificent new stadium weeks and months in advance of every fixture (I know because I am a Ticket Registration Scheme Member) for one very good reason. The football they play whilst not always effective is enormously entertaining. Arsenal's fan base is destined to grow out of this entertainment. Chelsea's fan base has grown in the fashion stakes of a few uneducated (football wise, fashion wise or otherwise) young boys in Singapore and Hong Kong who believe girls might be fooled into thinking they are cool if they wear a Chelsea shirt. Some of these boys are under the illusion that the boys and girls who see them in a Chelsea shirt might think them a winner like the Chelsea team. I think the 10 000 real Chelsea fans that frequent Stamford Bridge each week would not even wish to embrace these lost souls. I did not support Brazil in the days of Pele. I had my Bobby Moore signature boots on as a child. But I still look back at those grainy pictures of Pele "entertaining" us with his skill and audacity with great fondness, as I'm sure we all do. Chelsea can win every trophy available for the next 4-5 years and they will never be loved by history the way great sides of the past are. Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester United sides of the past have all had their periods of affection in our hearts not for the trophy's they won but the football they played. I will remain a highly entertained Arsenal fan despite our failings. Chelsea's failing is the football they play and it seems the only Chelsea fan who knows that is the owner. I think history will look favorably on Arsene Wenger's team. The record books might not. I don't know the record books of the 1950's and 1960's but I know Pele was the best player in the world back then and Brazil were the best team. I know Arsene will not get his hands on a trophy this year, but that will not make him a loser in my eyes. I thank Mr Wenger for fulfilling his promise to me. I am grateful that in a world filled with reality television I was able to watch another great year of entertaining football.

GREAT post Aussie Gunner. Couldn't agree more....I long for the day that I make the trip frome here in the states to the Emirates to watch my beloved Gunners....I have a footballing daughter and I am always telling her that it's more important to play the sports properly than wins and losses. We have the same problem here in the states with our footy...too many youth club teams designed to be "effective" than focused on playing the sport properly.
If you had never heard of Sagna then you are obviously not very well educated when it comes to world football as Sagna has been a top French fullback for years playing for a top French team, Just like Rosicky and Van Persie who were also top internationals, who were both previously linked with moves to Spurs, so obviously alot of Gooners are pretty much deluded when it comes to the amount of players Wenger supposedly discovered!

hello wenger.......we need 2 or 3 trophies next season with best players like Huntelaar, david villa, saha to take trophies for the team. from emmanuel from ghana

Its the new rule now in modern football. If a team wants to win trophies they must spend . Personally I think that Wenger do show enough interest when he want to sign a player and i know that if Arsenal tomorrow says they want a player and that other big team is after him; the player will choose Arsenal but the fact that Wenger don't show enough interest for them makes them signs for other team in the the likes of Tevez, Peter Cech and even Torres who could sign for Arsenal easily but whom Wenger let escaped !!! So i think Wenger should be more determined when he wants to sign a player because there are lots of big names who is waiting to hear that Arsenal wants them and i'm sure they will come just like David Villa who is willing to come but as i know Arsenal will let him escape also just like Arsenal let escape Torres who wanted to play for Arsenal since he was a teenage at Atletico. There names like Juao Mothinho(Sporting Lisbon) De Rossi(As Rome) Barry(Aston Villa) David villa & Sliva(Valencia) the young Brezilien Kerlon, Gamst Pedersen(Blackburn) Pablo(Atletico) Sergio Garcia(Real Zaragoza)and other more....... So please Mr Wenger we all wants Arsenal to have big names and win trophies, so please sign some of these kind of players please......... I'm also waiting to see Carlos Vela who i'm sure will be Arsenal new number 14, its time to bring him to England as he is doing so well in Spain. From a mad fan of Arsenal. THX Loadz

At the beggining of the season everyone was saying that Arsenal would have to fight with the likes of Tottenham & Everton to even get the 4th place in the league! Very few people thought that the new players bought in were enough! (Sagna, Eduardo & Bendtner back from loan). Arsenal were in winning position until that horrible injury to Eduardo and in my mind would have given United & Chelsea a difficult time hadn't Eduardo been injured! In my mind the new players were enough to win the league but circumstances went the other way (though matematicly we still can win the league). For the next season the most important thing will be to keep the likes of Hleb & Flamini, and to buy 2-3 players that can make the squad even better (and Wenger will do so, i'm sure of it). It doesn't have to be world class players, the only important thing is that they fit in the teams playing style! And Wenger will not buy any player that doesn't fit in! Of course i'd like to see the likes of Eto'o, Villa, Benzema a.s.o. but if he can find some player with the same quality like Sagna or Hleb f.ex. i'd be delighted! And don't forget that we get Carlos Vela back next season to play on the left wing like he mostly does in Osasuna. I remember when Wenger was building the great 2003-2004 team, he began after the 1998 double winning season and then he didn't win any titles for 3 seasons also (1999, 2000, 2001) but then won the Double in 2002, FA Cup in 2003 and the UNBEATEN League in 2004! So why should this be any different!? I think a lot of fans have forgotten that between 1946-1996 before Wenger came to Arsenal we only won 12 Trophies in 40 years!!! Now we have won 7 Trophies in Wengers 12 years (and were in 2 European Cup finals)! Not that bad i think! You can't stay on top all the time but you have more of a chance to stay for a longer spell if you build a team from youth and talent (not bringing in world class and older players that will surely not stay for long)! Arsenal have a great future ahead with this team and will surely get some trophies to celebrate with in the next couple of years to come!
1946-1996 is of course 50 years, sorry! (but makes my point even better!

i think arsenal will win the premier division next season becoz will get some better players this summer and get rid off all the rubbish 1's!!!
arsene wenger should try and buy some experience players in europe cos we fans are tired of not carrying any trophy.ok.
After 3 years you are tired of not winning a trophy, Thats why I have to respect Newcastle, West ham, etc fans who stay loyal through thick and thin and I love the Arsenal (since 1970). Go and support Chelsea or Real Madrid if you want to buy glory.

at the beginning of the season they gave arsenal no chance...but until recently arsenal down again...a wouldnt mind putting down my bottom dollar down for defeat if arsenal does not think BIG...pls not that all these av change...its about trophy and not been hedge to the end of ur sit every other time.Mr knows best was said he could entertain criticism and not insults...until when would we wake up....its a known fact that most top class footie was to play for the Gun...but our chairman would always resort to i almost did sign every playersincluding pele... guys i think we dont have to keep mum about these again, we need BIG players. dont wori we sure have emirate cup to play for these season...all young gunz should be instill wit BMT(big match temperament)....Pls note almost does kill a bird...

We are playing the best football in the world under Sir Arsene Wenger, without doubt. We need to score goal & protect the lead in order to win matches. We need couple of skillfull player’s on th wing too. Eventhough our football is breathtaking but there is no use if the end product cannot be found. We need to score as many goals as we can from the chances created in order to kill the game off, early. Some changes need to be done in order to compete in BPL & Europe. We are not midtable team !!! We are the title contender. Our main rival’s are Man U, Chelsea or maybe Liverpool. We need a big squad with a lot of quality player’s including the subs & this will make all the player’s to compete to improve or prove their worth. Wenger will have all fired up player’s available for each & every game. We don’t need this kind of statement from one of the blog’s : “The Arsenal Way - Sell your best players, Keep your Doo Doo players”. For me this already becomes a reality, a good manager will do anything to keep their best player’s. Wenger must come out of his shell or else, he have to leave. Those useless & injury prone player’s to offload : 1. Adebayour(15m) – Fucking poor first touch, no guts/skills to take on defenders, poor ball control, too slow, no body stability, cannot link play, selfish & too arrogant. 2. Robin(15m) – This guy is damn good, but he is made of toilet tissue paper. Injury prone, can’t even play 5 games in a row & cannot recover fast (too soft). 3. Bendtner(8m) – Total useless. At his age there are too many good & talented player existing. Benzema, Ben Arfa, Pato, Aguero, Walcott, Santos, Bojan, Messi & many more. 4. Rosicky(15m) – This guy is damn good, but he is made of toilet tissue paper. Injury prone, can’t even play 5 games in a row & cannot recover fast (too soft). 5. Diaby(8m) – Not good enough to play for Arsenal. Lazy & useless. 6. Gilberto(Free) – Contributed a lot & now the time to move on. 7. Sanderos(5m) – Useless donkey. 8. Hoyte(3m) - Not good enough to play for Arsenal. 9. Gallas(6m) – Not good enough to play for Arsenal. Too arrogant, lazy & not a team player or leader. Total $$$ earned from selling useless player’s : 75m. Transfer kitty allocation : 25m. Total to buy player’s : 100m. Experience, good quality player’s to buy or buy back : 1. Thierry Henry. (10m) – For godsake, please buy this genius back. He can be our striker’s coach as well. 2. Karim Benzema.(20m). 3. Hatem Ben Arfa.(12m). 4. Ricardo Quaresma.(10m). 5. Micah Richards.(20m). Total to spend : 72m. Total to buy player’s : 100m. Total spending : 72m. Balance to use for wages & other’s : 28m. New Arsenal team for 2008/2009 season (Mixture of Young & Experience) : 4 – 4 – 2 : (With new numbering). Manager : Sir Arsene Wenger. Skipper : Kalou Toure. 1. Almunia 3. Sagna 5. Toure 6. Richards 2. Clichy 7. Quaresma 19. Flamini 4. Febregas 8. Ben Arfa 10. Benzema 14. Henry Supersubs : 21. Fabianski 18. Ebue 20. Djourou 16. Nordveit 23. Traore 13. Hleb 15. Denilson 17. Song 12. Vela 11. Walcott 9. Eduardo Guyz, how is this line-up ??? Cheers
by Samin Silwal on April 28, 2008
These shitty players need to get out : Adebayor, Senderos, Bendtner, Eboue... Gallas is only a rotation player. We need to buy a quality finisher, two wingers (as Hleb is leaving) and a centerback. ----------------------Alumnia/Fabianski ------------------- Sagna----------Toure---------- Barzagli----------Clichy Quaresmo----Rosicky------ Fabregas-------Drenthe --------------------------- ------------RVP/Eduardo---------- ------------------ ---Huntelaar---------------------------------- Subs: Walcott, Djourou, Vela, Gallas, Traore, Diaby, Denilson... Now that's only 4 signings and we still have a world class team.
