Despite the Chelsea defeat, Liverpool have plenty to be cheerful about
The trophy cabinet is bare for 2007-8, but Reds fans can take a lot from the season. Rafa Benitez has finally found a squad and line-up to be genuine contenders instead of massive flops - and it is crucial he stays at Anfield.

With the end of Liverpool’s competitive season now over and just two meaningless matches left in the Premier League, critics and supporters have concluded that manager Rafael Benitez and his team have let the season slip away with nothing to show.
In terms of trophies this may be true but for Liverpool fans all over the world, much can be taken out of the season just passed.
After three-and-a-half seasons of failed rotation, a 1-0 FA Cup loss to Championship side Barnsley in February proved to be the final straw for the tactic and a new policy and formation were developed, to results the supporters wished to see from the opening day at Aston Villa.

In a season where we've had more backroom turmoil than I can ever remember at any club the size of Liverpool, we've done superbly. A couple of close results that had gone a different way, and we'd be right up there. I'm bloody proud of these guys. No-one gave us a chance against Inter, Arsenal or Chelsea and we frightened the life out of everyone who wanted a Chelsea-United Final since day 1. And we would have frightened the life out of United in the final too. Its a shame, but we're all proud of the boys and the effort they out in amidst such turmoil behind the scenes. The backroom rubbish is very un-Liverpool like. But the performances have been just that.

Yes, definately this season is a season we should be proud. Every season we are improving. Just look at the amount of Goals we have scored this season(116 so far) and that is the highest compared to MU, Chelsea and Arsenal. Few more quality addition, will bring this team to a totally new dimension. We Trust In Rafa. Hope this summer, Rafa will get new faces who can perform really well(like Torres did). Yes, we have been given reason next season, next season and next season but for me every season we are improving and we will definately become more better in future.

More backroom turmoil than at any other club? More than Chelsea? Really? More than United when the Coolmore mafia were involved? More than Arsenal when the chequebook was closed to build the Emirates? Yeah, right. "Every season we are improving"? How did Liverpool do in each competition last year and how did they do this year? Is it not worse this year in every competition? Deluded as usual. This was supposed be the PL winning season. The challenge didn't last into December, as usual.

The author of this article has made many valid points about a super. But Liverpool has to look forward in the future, if they want to compete for the English premier league title. If Liverpool wants to contend next year, they have to look to the youth like the 3 teams above them have done, Man U with Anderson and Nani, Arsenal with Walcott. Liverpool should look for a young and up coming supporting striker to play with Torres in the next transfer window. Young 17 year old Bojan would be a great transfer and assent to the team for a long time, the issue is that he wont leave Barcelona and Barcelona wont let him go. The next best option is a very cheap priced young man from the states Jozy Altidore, young 17 year old who plays like Drogba with the speed of Martins he would be a great assent and a bargain for the future in Liverpool. Another is a unknown from Australia, a boy I saw from the show football superstar, who I though had promise and went to see him play “Seamus Liddy” this boy has the footwork that matches Cristiano Ronaldo and can score as well. There are many options for Liverpool, they can go down or they can rise, we have to sit back and watch to see what happens.

firstly i'd like to say that Liverpool has no chance ever winning the E.P.L due to the fact that they play bad football, and there captain whilst everyone thinks he is good, he actully has zero skill and needs to learn something from one of the greatest players in the world luka modric.. watch out next for the team of the year tottenham hotspur. with modric playing for tottenham they are unbeatable. no liverpool can compare with the class of tottenham.

and Sacha, how can you say Liverpool have no youth when they have Torres, Mascherano, Agger, Lucas and Babel all under 25 - plus liverpool's reserves are the BEST in the country, with Plessis and Insua stepping in with distinction this season, maybe you should do some research before you comment
