Why Liverpool should still persist in flying their Kuyt
If you'd told the Dutchman he would only score one league goal from open play this season, he'd probably have laughed at you. No doubt he'll be more disappointed than anyone with that return.

While Fernando Torres has been grabbing all the headlines, Dirk Kuyt has been relegated to the role of supporting actor and more than one commentator has taken it upon himself to criticise his goal-scoring return. It is a little unfair to judge him solely by the "goals scored" column, though. No one works harder for the team than Kuyt does and he doesn't stop running, closing people down, dropping deep, running forward . . . you name whatever needs doing and he'll be doing it. Except, that is, for scoring! It all seemed so different at the start of last season when he made his home debut against West Ham and within minutes he had the crowd captivated with his energy and dynamism as he strived to mark his debut with a goal.As he found himself space and screamed for the ball time after time it was clear we were witnessing one of the most impressive debuts of recent times, and it became obvious why Rafa wanted him so much that David Moores was persuaded to dip into his own pocket to buy him.Something has gone wrong somewhere since then, and Torres has come in and become the striker we hoped Kuyt would be, while Dirk is looking more like a loyal, hard working journeyman. He has enjoyed more success in the Champions League in front of goal, but in the Premier League his contribution has been minimal in the area that really counts for a striker. Maybe he, like a young Ian Rush, needs to be taken to one side and told to “be selfish”, or maybe he needs someone to tell him just how good he could be. After all, he was doing the job for Feyenord where he was ‘the main man’, but surrounded by a team of ‘main men’ perhaps he is getting lost a little.
Or maybe someone needs to show him the video of that West Ham game and say “now go out and do that every week.”Whatever it takes someone needs to do it, because Dirk Kuyt is just too good to allow him to drift away without reaching his full potential, and at the moment that is exactly what I can see happening.

Kuyt did well in Europe to score a few goals but the truth is he is a bench player at best. If Rafa keeps playing him next season in every game like he did this year we have no chance of the league. We can't carry players and for all his hard work Kuyt lacks pace, skill, height and GOALS. He is a sub at best who should be used to Europe but rarely in the Prem.

I like him and think he does good for the team! Rafa does like him and thinks the same so I would get used to seeing him with the team.

Why are we keeping him? first touch is bad, cannot score more goals than Crouch, given the chances he had compared. slower than Pennant or Benayoun on the wing...simply a expensive flop by Benitez. Keep Pennant and Crouch, but sell Kuyt

Kuyt brings more to the team more than Crouch who I find to be a liability without the ball. The number of headers Crouch wins are fewer than expected of his height. He commits numerous fouls when we are attacking thus denying scoring opportunities to the team. Just watch him when pass does not find him, his momentum (excuse me!) takes him 10-20 yards further and by then the opponents are attacking. Lastly, why does he always look to the heavens when chasing the ball would make more sense? aka Cisse. SELL CROUCH

Kuyt cannot control the ball, cannot pass accurately, cannot head properly, cannot shoot precisely, cannot shield the ball, BUT can defend. We need to sell him, just as we do Babel (poor first touch), Benayoun (too slow, poor first touch), Pennant (too slow, poor first touch, cannot cross the ball).

Crouch, Babel, Benny and Pennant are all better players than Kuyt. Kuyt would be at best okay if he were taller and quicker but he isn't. So many attacks have simply ended up going backwards because he can't work a bit of space and move it forward. When he plays it seems like playing with 10 men a lot of the time and it is no surprise that defenders have figured him out.

Is this site reserved for people who have no clue about football at all? Some of the comments re: Kuyt are just mind numbingly stupid and anyone who can't see his worth is obviously (a) Somebody who's never played football at any level or (b) suffering from sort of degenerative mind wasting disease. Kuyt is worth his weight in gold. He is the hardest worker we have and has scored important goals in europe without which we wouldn't have even made it out of the group stages. He is not a natural finisher which is why he doesn't bang in twenty goals a season in the league but if we'd played without him this season I'd say we'd be at least 15 points worse off and struggling to make it into europe at all. Strikers (even though he doesn't really play up front) are judged on goals but anyone who knows anything about football should realise that this is only one side of their game. Look a little further and you'll see that a good 'player' doesn't always have to score goals to play well. Open your eyes people and get used to Kuyt, he's one player who won't be going anywhere in a hurry....

What we are saying about Kuyt we have heard before - his name was Heskey
by roekke on May 06, 2008
Agreed, this site is full of retarded redneck supporters. If no one can see what kuyt brings to the team then they obviously dont have a clue. Pennant, for all hes worth just fell short, talented, but no heart. Kuyt has the heart of a lion, and although he doesnt score as much as we like him to, his fooball brain is far superior to bennayoun and pennants. Babel has great talent, but his fitness is just short yet. I expect him to terrorise next year.

In all fairness, Kyut has the control but not the first touch to get him out of trouble. has the game intelligence but different from his liverpool mates. has the shooting power but not the accuracy, has heading accuracy but can't time his jump. Playing on the right, it would be alright he doesn't score many goals, he just need to beat the defender and cross to the strikers. but he can do neither. Did anyone notice he is very one footed in front of goal? I think Rafa play him because the rest of the wingers are not doing any better and Kyut can defend better. He is Erik Meijer in disguise!!

I think Kuyt should be a Liverpool player for all the Hardwork he has done, but he is not a first 11 player. We should have players like Quaresma or Joaquin Sanchez on our right wing.
