Gareth Barry apart, Benitez already has the answers to Liverpool's transfer dilemma
A host of names from across Europe have already been touted as the ones to turn Liverpool into true Premier League title contenders, but this author thinks Benitez should take a good look around his dressing room before splashing out needlessly.

Liverpool are being linked with all the wrong players in the Press. All except Gareth Barry, that is.
Barry is a central midfielder, a position in which Liverpool seemed to be well stocked, but I see him as a highly versatile player who you could put on the wings, in behind Steven Gerrard, or - if the situation arises - at left-back.
His signing almost certainly spells the end for Xabi Alonso. Barry’s passing range is comparable, and he is left-footed. He can make a seamless transition to Anfield.
There have been a number of names linked with moves to Liverpool but, for me, none of them measures up. One example is Antonio Valencia. He is a pacy player who threatens the opposition at all times. But I don’t see him fitting into the Liverpool system.

Glad you're not the manager.

We have too many mediocre players. Riise, Kewell and Voronin are players who shouldnt even be in the squad. Pennant, Benayoun, Kuyt, Aurelio, Finnan and Crouch are all good enough squad players, but thats all they should be. With youngsters like Nemeth, Insua, Hobbs, Anderson, Plessis and Guthrie able to make up the squad positions, now is the time for Rafa to again improve the attacking side of the game like he did with Torres and Babel. Having Agger back will be like a whole new signing, a really good signing. A good, solid back-up goalie is important to get rid of that clown Itandje, and I'd prefer to sell Carson as he can bring in upwards of £5 million. I'd get rid of one of either Pennant or Benayoun and look to bring in a tricky winger like Mancini, Joaquin or Lennon. I'd look to shift Babel to a central role and bring in Silva for the left. An attacking midfielder like Aimar could be bought in, and him and Barry would be good if Alonso was to leave. We need right backs and left backs, so Abidal and Rafinha wouldnt be a bd place to start with Degen providing cover for both sides with Arbeloa and Carra. Finally a new striker with Crouch leaving, perhaps Kenwyne Jones or Amauri of Palermo.

This article is really baseless and shows a lack of knowledge of some of our players. Riise has done nothing worthy of note on the left, defence or attack. He gets the ball he puts in a bad cross or he tries a ridiculous shot at goal. no technical ability, no ball skills. Agger is a tailor made centreback. Its crazy to even suggest moving him to the left as he has established himself in the centre so brilliantly. Kewell is someone i feel has taken too long. Everytime he comes back " this is it. He needs to prove himself". If he is this injury prone, then that something abt him that isn favorable to us, no matter how good he is. We need some icings on the cake. Players of great ball skill and technique. Currently we are stuffed with one dimensional effective players. We need flair and speed. That will be the step forward.
you need locking up!

this is the worse article i have read for a long time. the fact of the matter is that the squad is not good enogh we need world class players and how can you not rate quaresma???
by Alan on May 06, 2008
We have bought enough flops. its time we bought players who have peformed for other big clubs and not unproven guys. benitez needs to buy players from champions league clubs like all the other top sides do. hpw many times must benitez be told this season the fans want to see quality not quantity. forget this guy degen and ust keep finnan rather than constant changing players of similar (average) quality, buy one 20 million player if that's all you an afford Rafa because at least like TORRES and MASCHERANO a 20 million player will add something to the team. unlike the non additions like kuyt and pennant.

i feel we have a good core of our team. we pass well tackle well and most of all worlk hard. all we need are some finishin touched like one or two wing backs and another winger. we play across the park well but require a bit more quality on the wings. babel got to imporve(promising) and pennant need a bit of confidence with matches! a world class striker wud be good but with the 4-2-3-1 that seems to be working, it wouldnt be all that bad if we didnt get one.
by Jonny woolman on May 06, 2008
We need to sign two fullbacks and a right winger. i wouldn't mind phillip lahm and chielleni. also we should sign silva from valencia, he is qaulity

thats appauling mate. u havnt got a clue. clint dempsey playing for liverpool hahaha. in my opinion we need a left and right bak, and a left and right midfielder to compete 4 the title. and giv babel a go up front next yer, his pace is frightenin for anyone. rafinha, lahm, queresma and a left winger wd b amazing, and barry is alonso goes but only if alonso goes.

Are you Liverpool's bank manager? Bloody hell. Kewell? Riise?? Solutions??? And you don't rate Quaresma who at least has two feet.

I think this gut has been playin too much football manager after reading his recommended signings...
by Mr C on May 06, 2008
Rubbish!!! Look at UTD, they are only interested in £20m + players, and thats why their squad oozes class, and plays with both flair and robustness. Risse, his time has come. He's so one footed he cant fit into the new system as a winger as he is required to come inside. He cant, and will not use his right foot. He's gone!!, and he cost us big time. Agger possible, but we need his talent in central defence. As fo Barry, i can only imagine him playing at left-back as he's not a better player than Alonso. I think he'd also be used in the middle when rotation requires it. We need another player on the right wing, a £20m + player, world class. Someone that compliments Torres...
dont joke with everyone because your not funny
