It's time stinker Naylor was left back in the Celtic dressing room
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender has been given some slack because of a decent first season but he is the pits this time around.

In his first season at Celtic Lee Naylor had a fantastic time and many fans were marvelling at the astute signing of the left-back by Gordon Strachan.Whether it was sheer luck or a combination of being an unknown quantity in Scotland, twinned with a rich vein of form, no one really knows. The simple fact is that this season he has been an absolute nightmare. His distribution is terrible, positioning non-existent and his bad tackling alongside much unnecessary backchat have caused many an uneasy moment. In a Champions League qualifier Artur Boruc lost the plot with Naylor and the two of them clashed as the half-time whistle was being blown. Boruc is famed for moments of distraction but has proved himself to be one of the best keepers on the planet. Indeed it was Naylor's positional incompetence that led to the handbags.Boruc is not comfortable with Naylor at left-back and neither are the Parkhead crowd. It is fairly understandable up to a point. There has been no real cover for Naylor and perhaps complacency has crept into his play. With Mark Wilson more than capable of covering at LB after recovering from injury, it is bemusing just why Strachan is still picking a player completely out of sorts and causing concern to the overall chances of Celtic retaining their title.Naylor's first season was so good that many people were shouting for him to be included in the England squad! It seems laughable now. Perhaps there are personal problems of which we know nothing about. Aiden McGeady is often left to fend for himself on that side of the park with no support from Naylor. In the modern game it is expected that full-backs support the players in front of them with over-lapping runs. Whether Strachan has told Naylor to stay back, we don’t know. It is often accepted that an attacking full-back can be a little less effective when defending. But it balances itself out – when a defender becomes non-existent in an attacking sense, yet still cannot perform defensive duties, then alarm bells start ringing.Stephen McManus is not quick enough to cover for Naylor when he is caught out of position and we have lost many a goal because of that this season. Why Naylor should be caught napping at the back when he hasn't even been forward smacks of very little intelligence. Naylor does not have a footballing brain and it is showing big style this season. When Naylor does receive a cut-back from McGeady his crossing is nothing short of woeful. I truly believe that in his first season, simply because the other SPL managers did not know him, Naylor's mistakes were noticed by no one. They were not highlighted, purely because Celtic were winning the league at a canter. It didn't seem to matter. But Naylor is now living on borrowed time in Glasgow.

Fans can be so fickle. I'm at Celtic park for every game and around me Naylor is not the whipping boy. This role is reserved for Gary Caldwell. Gerald has every right to say what he wants but I do wonder if he is a Celtic fan. At this time of the year to be so critical of a manager's choice and so down on a player is bad form. With 2 games to go which could allow us to win the league a writer would either have to be against the team he is criticising or as he describes Lee Naylor be someone without a brain. I'm going for the latter. Someone who has sadly gone through education being brutally criticised for lack of understanding and believes that it is ok to be merciless in criticism of others. A message for you Gerald, your teachers were wrong. They should have encouraged you to bring out your best. They have let you down. Come on Naylor or whoever else is picked to win these next two vital games. Hail hail me and Gerald support you and here's to 3 in a row.

Naylor had a fantastic first 6 months when he arrived at Celtic. His form tailed off towards the end of the season after losing to AC Milan, like most other Celtic players, because they were winning the leagu at a canter and they seemingly too their summer holidays early. He had a poor run of for at the start of this season and personally had we had another left back to replace him he probably would've been dropped. I think that would've helped him in the long term to be dropped and taken of of the limelight rather than taking the hits to his confidence during the poor run of form. However he came through that bad patch and has hrdly put foot wrong for months. I dunno who the guy that wrote this article is but I just don't recognised the "terrible" passing, "woeful" crossing, "bad" tackler with "non-existent" positioning. Lee Nayor is a hrdworking player that fights for his team and I still consider a bargain at £600,000.

Some of what you say is correct and having an unopposed berth at left back has bred complacency. McGeady however leaves Naylor exposed when defensive duties are required. His tracking back leaves a lot to be desired sometimes hence the opposition knock an easy "1-2" round our fullback.

Some footballers do well in life despite being of very little brain. Boruc wanted to damage Naylor for writing off a retrieveable ball as a corner. Against Rangers we conceded from two corners. Despite one weeks intensive coaching since, we conceded 12 corners against mighty Ẁell often due to defensive ineptitude. Naylor has said on Celtic TV he is an experienced pro who does not let the crowd bother him He is not widely experienced with Celtic however and has not realised along with WGS that we are bigger than Wolves Southampton or Coventry. This is a terminal disease for managers known as Lou Macari syndrome. It defies belief that Naylor is allowed to walk about the park week after week demonstrating astonishing body language which suggests he is the new Tommy Gemmell or Danny McGrain when he is in fact below average and has been a great encouragement to Rangers Quad bid.

On one hand i wholeheartedly agree with Brendan 2k - we should totally get behind whatever team is out there, on the other, i find it incredible he claims to go to the games every week and that Naylor is playing well!! I go to parkhead and watch all the games, Naylor is undeniably the weakest link we have in the team - barring Donati who thankfully Gord has realised is nowhere near Celtic quality! Naylor has been cut too much slack for the reason that we do not have a replacement for him and a great 6 months when he first signed. Mark Wilson came in for him and was outstanding, his distribution was first class and i think 2 balls never hit the intended target, with naylor your lucky to get 2 balls hitting any target!!! Strachan should play Wilson at left back for the remaining 2 games and i believe not only will the back 3 and boruc be happier, but so would every Celtic fan in the world! I was screaming out for a left back in january, but its vital we get one in the summer, Naylor just isnt good enough, and i wish he was, his heart and attitude was fantastic when he first signed and done his interviews, but i think we all need to accept he will never hit the form he did when he first signed, the form celtic players need to show when playing for the team, remember - THE CELTIC STRIP SHRINKS TO FIT NO MAN!!! Hail Hail and heres to 3 in a row!!!

On the guy who says McGeady leaves Naylor exposed and dosent track back well???????? What team is he watching?? McGeady has Improved his defensive qualities imensly over the past two seasons and gives Naylor more than enough support infact the case is quite the opposite Naylor does not give McGeady an attacking option he very rarely overlaps and dosent have the pace needed for a "Celtic" fullback Wilson showed him up when he played this position. Naylor will pass the ball to Mcgeady then stop dead expecting Mcgeady to beat the 2or3 players which are usually marking him and get a cross in , also Naylors delivery has had alot to be desired this season a new left back is paramount in the season ahead if we are to go further than last 16 and make it 4 in a row!!! any idea's on a pacey left back with european ability we can afford???????
