Sixth sense: How Aston Villa's season went from good to better
For the fans, the best moment of a very good camapign was the drubbing of Birmingham City. For the purists it was a team playing attractive football. Can they keep the momentum going next season?

An attacking style of football, a further display of fine young talent, a double-derby victory, and players breaking into the England squad capped with a sixth-place finish.
On paper it looks to be a fantastic season compared with last season's 11th, and in reality, it is. When Martin O’Neill took the helm at Villa Park, he promised a brighter future. In only his second year he is starting to come good on that promise.
Aston Villa, due to their own hard work, have gained a reputation as a strong team who will be difficult to beat. There have been some fantastic games that will be long remembered by the fans. The 2-0 victory over Chelsea, the 4-0 win against Blackburn and my personal favourite, the 5-1 drubbing of bitter rivals Birmingham City.
They just missed out on a UEFA Cup spot which normally would be guaranteed for A sixth place finish if not for Tottenham’s Carling Cup win and the coming Portsmouth-Cardiff FA Cup final. O’Neill would still have accepted this finishing position at the start of the season as it is a vast improvement on last and they still have an Intertoto Cup place.

I`m a Liverpool fan who would like to congratulate Martin O`Neill and his fast improving Villa team. I`m very impressed with the attacking football shown by Barry & Co this season, and O`Neill is a great manager in the making. I wouldn`t mind at all to have Gareth Barry jump ships to Anfield this summer, but it would be a shame for Villa. Given the chaotic situation at Merseyside, he might just opt to stay put. Good luck to all Villans next season!

Barry should go, we are going to play 3-5-2 with barry as left wing back, and alonso stays put, villa is a midtable team, and they are good because thrashing lousy teams by a few goals, lol, villa is nothing but a mediocre club
