Harry Redknapp's defensive unit has performed so superbly that they deserve to be remembered alongside Wembley greats such as Stanley Matthews, Ricky Villa and Steven Gerrard

It was fitting that on the Wembley turf following Portsmouth's FA Cup final triumph that Harry Redknapp should praise the men most responsible for the victory.
“My defence was fantastic,' said 'Arry. ''They did really well, especially on set-pieces… When we get in front - with Sol Campbell, David James, Sylvan Distin, Heidar Hreidarsson and Glen Johnson - we’re a difficult side to break down.”

I WISH we never let Sol leave Arsenal! Who knew that he would still be THIS good?! And James has been magisterial as usual these last two seasons. I am surprised though with the way Distin and Johnson have improved themselves immeasurably at Portsmouth. Harry Redknapp certainly knows how to get the best out of a group of veteran players. The challenge now is to try and refresh the squad by getting some more younger guys into the team...with Diarra looking to leave it could be an opportunity to try and get someone else. It'll be interesting to see how Harry will manage in Europe and what kind of tactics he'll use. One thing's for sure though, the future's bright for Pompey!

After 45 years and well over a thousand games it's difficult to believe how far we've come over the last two seasons and no small thanks to two strikes from Pedro Mendes against Man City (inc David James in goal for them that day), the last in the 93rd minute, which kick started Pompey's escape from relegation three seasons ago. Was so pleased to see him play yesterday and get his medal along with Herman Heriderson another player Harry has really got the best out of. So looking forward to our European tour!!

It is good to see a pro-Pompey article for once on this site which normally only spouts sour grapes Manc tosh. Pompey have taken huge strides forward under 'Arry and fully deserved their Wembley victory. All we need now to end a perfect season is for Chelski to stuff the Mancs tomorrow.

Singling out the defenders alone for praise is not good enough, if a team do all defending, the beauty of the game dies. Everybody in the team contributed immensely, if Kanu did not score the lone goal, the game would have ended in penalties and the defenders would have countered for nought. Arry, everybody is great. In Europe dont talk about ur defenders as u need goals goals goals.
