Sorry, Portsmouth - you only won the Mickey Mouse cup
The FA Cup no longer means anything to the big clubs, according to this Sportingo author - and fielding weakened teams is the proof.

Congratulations to Portsmouth and all that, but I am afraid they have just won a Mickey Mouse trophy. I remember vividly attending and writing on the Bolton v Sheffield United tie way back in January when BOTH teams fielded weakened sides.
The big boys certainly weren't bothered about the FA Cup. They all put out under-strength teams in almost every round and weren't crying too much when they went out.

I'm glad Pompey won my "husband's cup". A typical response from a bitter Manc. - who along with all the other mancs, who have not stop whinging since a FULL STRENGTH Manu U side were dumped out of the cup on March 8th. It is a shame that personal abuse will not be allowed here, because you would get loads. Get real and i hope Chelski give you a right stuffing.

Does not reflect on the fact that Man U were fielding a full strength side when "dumped" out of the cup by Pompey. Yes agree that bigger clubs use the early rounds of the cup to provide experience to squad members but the strong squads appear for later rounds eg Man U

It is interesting that Man U were not mentioned among the 'big clubs' fielding weaker teams. Portsmouth beat Man U in March at Old Trafford against a FULL STRENGTH United team. Man U had innumerable opportunities to score and missed them all, but SAF claimed that they lost because they were not awarded a penalty for a shoulder charge early in the game. SAF and Man U were not interested? - if that was the case why the anger, personal abuse and ranting against the referee. One can only suppose that Steve Bott is whinging, brain dead Man U supporter who feels that they have a divine right to win every game and that the referee should ensure victory by awarding a free kick for Man U whenever their players fall over or are tackled and award a penalty whenever Ronaldo, Saha, or Rooney dives in the penalty area. The Cup Final was not brilliant, but more entertaining than the Man U v Chelsea gaime in 2007 and the atmosphere engendered by both groups of supporters did them all great credit. Come on Steve Bott recognised that your words came from your bodily orifice consiting of your surname plus the letters om..

so, the chelsea side that lost to barnsley was not easily good enough to beat them, and most other premiership sides? the liverpool side didnt contain anyone you've ever heard of, the man u didnt play rooney, ronaldo etc? all the top 4 fielded sides that they thought could easily win the games that they were playing in. having, and using, a big squad does not mean you arnt taking things seriously...

Congratulations Pompey on winning the Cup. Ignore the tripe being spouted by the bitter Manc. I am a Liverpool fan and agree that we fielded a team we thought should have been good enough to beat Barnsley .... it wasn't and we didn't. That doesn't mean I now feel the Cup was de-valued. I'm happy for david james and Milan Baros that they managed to get another winner's medal, and I'm happy for Harry that he finally got his hand on some silverware. Good luck in the UEFA Cup next season

Congratuations Portsmouth. However, Portsmouth weren't the only winners on Saturday...English football and the FA cup were as well. What a competition it has been this season. e.g. seeing Havant knock out Swansea in that replay was far more interesting than watching Man Utd v Chelsea will be on Wednesday.

Firsty it it attracts more viewers worldwide than any other domestic cup and is the most sought after club competition in the world. Secondly if it is Mickey Mouse please explain to me why Ferguson was so irate for the next 2 months after they were knocked out - along with Ronaldo who was indeed very bitter (and he was part of the "weakened" ManU side that day!). If your theory held I suppose the Premiership is losing credability because Torres, Ronaldo, Adebayor, Drogba, Lampard and Rooney sat out a few games!

your a loser what kind of person comes up with comments like that and no prove behind it. You put out your best team against us and we neat you in the last teen minutes of the match you had four strikers on the pitch out of 10 so how can you say you wasnt trying and then after the match you were crying about not getting a penalty once you had missed 2 goals with no keeper in. you are a shame to the second best club in the world (after Pompey) and i hope that chelsea beat you in CL. At least we have loyal fans i beat if i showed you a map of manchester you would get confused. Well done united on winning the league and dont be bad lser all your life

Thanks you plonker, after the hangover from the weekend i was looking for something to lift my spirits, and there's nothing better for that than a bitter, disillusioned numpty from....( i need to guess a little here...) Guildford???

In the case of managers such as Arsene Wenger who use the domestic cups to blood young players, I don't think this shows they don't care. If your young players can't give Barnsley a good game then what hope in hell have they got against the big guns of the Premiership? So Chelsea playing thier 'weakened' side against Barnsley showed they don't care? They still played Terry Carvalho Malouda Cole Wright Phillips Anelka and had Kalou and Mikel on the bench, thats well upwards of £50 million spent right there, and still lost. I think that says a lot about the quality of Chelsea's back up options, not about their atttiude to the competition.

Simply put, this is an article which SHOULD have been given the contempt it deserves and no replies! It's a shame that people have chosen to reply to this utterly dreadful, odious piece of work!

At the weekend the magic returned to the FA Cup. Seeing the players celebrate showed how much it meant to them. Reading fans must be so glad that Coppell put out a weakened team so they got their karma when Pompey rested people against Fulham. This was the best cup final for a decade because it meant so much to the two teams competing AND WON BY AN ENGLISH MANAGER!!! Do other teams get 200,000 people turn out to congratulate the team? Stonners, did you fall asleep in the pub?

It amazes me when people say the big 4 aren't bothered about the FA or League Cup - maybe the same people should look at the past 12 victors of the FA cup - Now look at the league cup, all the big 4 have been challenging and winning this pretty frequently over the last 7 years.

Try it pal and you won't take another breath!
