Whilst the football world prepares for the Champions League final and in England the pundits explain just how brilliant the Premier League is, there are some surprising transfers going on under the radar of the mainstream media.
This week both Ivan Campo and Lee Carsley left their respective clubs for differing reasons, but in their own way both players made a mark on the Premier League despite not being the most talented performers.
Carsley left Goodison Park to be nearer to his family in the Midlands after six seasons with the Merseyside club. The 34-year-old has joined Birmingham and should prove to be a class act in the Championship. Playing 46 games shouldn’t be a problem for the veteran, this campaign only Phil Neville and Joleon Lescott played more times than him. And it is clear that the Toffees wanted to hold on to the defensive midfielder as they offered him a one-year extension to his contract.
The Republic of Ireland international was praised by David Moyes after his departure: “He has undoubtedly been a big part in our success in the last few seasons. We'd like to thank him, he's been a fantastic player on and off the field.” In the modern game it is almost unheard of for a player to receive such unstinted praise from his former boss, but Carsley has been arguably one of Moyes’ best-ever signings.

Thank you for your kind words. My 40 yard goal against Tottenham was the best goal of my career. I would like to thank all the Bolton fans for their support but to me honest I am amazed I lasted the season. My legs have gone, my passing is awful, I can't defend and haven't scored this season. Anyhow - another 12 months Premier League salary has been banked! All the best - my the way where the fcuk is Hull?

Carsley was signed by Walter Smith, not David Moyes.
