Manchester United are so much more than a Ron-man team when it comes to Cristiano
The Portuguese superstar may get all the headlines, but United's dominance is down to a lot more than just his goals. If he does go to Real Madrid it will be a big loss, but you can't say Fergie doesn't know what he's doing!

It was inevitable that once Manchester United had won the Champions League title against Chelsea, the media would swarm around the players, making up transfer rumours and looking for any gossip while the team is hot in the press.
But there is no smoke without fire regarding Cristiano Ronaldo being a transfer target for Real Madrid and it's very rare that the Spanish giants don't get what they want. But would United really suffer that much if their star attacker moved to Spain? I think not.
Yes, it would be a big loss, but surely the team is made up of enough quality to cope? And anyway, Sir Alex Ferguson would simply spend the transfer fee wisely on another couple of top European stars for the start of next season. The other ten players on the pitch play just as important a part in the success of this United side.
Just look at their line-up week in, week out. With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in defence and Edwin van der Sar between the sticks they have only conceded 22 Premier League goals all season. Just look at the heroics of the goalkeeper in the penalty shoot-out against Chelsea last Wednesday. I know Ronaldo does his bit when needed in defence, but he can hardly be praised for the season-long defensive statistics - and United's success is built around not conceding goals.
The number of clean sheets they achieve is often overshadowed by all the goals Ronaldo scores. If they win 2-0 and Ronaldo gets both goals, then Ferdinand, Vidic and Co. often miss out on the headlines and media attention, even though they have done an immaculate job.
Ronaldo also gets a lot of support from Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney, without whom the Portuguese wizard wouldn't have half the success he has had this season. Tevez has set up a fair number of Ronaldo's goals, while Rooney has been inspired up front and will be for some time to come. Remember, Ronaldo nearly cost United the European Cup with his penalty miss.
Ronaldo is often the subject of media frenzy and he fully deserves the praise. But ultimately United's success is down to the morale and quality of the entire side, not just one man. Lots of footballing fans see Ronaldo as arrogant on the pitch and I think this is warranted on some occassions. Maybe Ferguson should get rid of his star man and build a whole new midfield team as both Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are not spring chickens any more.
I think the transfer rumours will continue in the near future and Real may wait until they see their transfer target playing in Euro 2008 before they make a concrete offer for the Portuguese midfielder. However, by then his price tag may have risen even further.
Ferguson may have a battle on his hands to keep Ronaldo at Old Trafford, but either way his Manchester United squad is strong enough to cope with without him.

I THINK RONALDO IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD
by Joseph Ngalawa on May 27, 2008
I strongly think Man U is not about Ronaldo and the team would be even more stronger without him. Nani is coming in thru the lanks, I am sure if he leaves he won't be missed that much as many might want us to believe. I therefore as k Fergie to listen to any attractive offers that may come.

please lets stop taling crap. you just wait and see if united struggle if ronaldo leaves. We would struggle a lot when it comes to scoring goals. You just wait and see.

He is not leaving anywhere, not while Fergie is in charge, madrid are trying to bully us into selling him which is pathetic.
by Richard on May 27, 2008
It took him 5 yrs to get to this level - selling to real would be folly - personally I'd rather watch him for three more years even if he leaves on a Bosman! - what good is the money in the Glazers pockets !!! If u think UTD would be better without him - where have u been ??? Find a new team !!!

I am constantly hearing that Manchester had a score of clean sheet. When I was growing up, playing soccer, I was always told that the best defense id a good offence. The reason why Manchester carried so many clean sheets is because they overwhelmed on offence, with Cristiano at the helm. I am a Manchester supporter, but I want to see Ronaldo go to Spain. The English do not deserve to have such a talented, great played gracing their fields. In Spain he will be appreciated.

Well you would be the best judge wouldn't you Tony with your extensive experience growing up playing 'Soccer' . And anyone who wants to see Ronaldo leave is not a 'manchester' fan as you put it. And if us English don't deserve such talented players on our fields why do you support an English team you BELL END? :-)

How dare you call yourself a Manchester United supporter! We do not deserve to have a player like Ronaldo in the Premiership?? The European Champions?? From the league with three semi-finalists? You're an absolute disgrace. Please never call yourself a United supporter again, because trust me you are wanted by neither the club nor the supporters.

Anyone who uses the word 'soccer' is instantly recognisable as an American clown who doesn't know anything. Yes Ronaldo would be missed- of course he would, but he's not going anywhere. Real were poor this season, Barcelona just made them look good. They are a world force no more. Even Roma spanked them and they're our whipping boys lmao

it would be a real shame if we let C Ronaldo go this summer or even next 2 summers... The boy is a natural talent (with a bit of a superstar ego), but he does produce the goods.... Man Utd to Win Everything Next Season if we reinforce the squad the right way... (Striker... Defenders.... an for me another natural winger).. By the way i was sorry to see G Pique leave us but thats life... I wish him all the best just like i did my boy (the BOSS) Ruud Van Nistelrooy.. Manchester United ready to dominate Football.. SAF u d man
