He's done it before and fans will be expecting the Frenchman to do it again. But is there a limit to his powers?

Recently we heard that Arsenal's transfer budget has been trimmed from £70m to £25m. Fans have been going ballistic over this, but is it actually necessary for someone like Arsene Wenger to have £70m? No, he wouldn’t even spend a fifth of that.
So should we actually be panicking about this news? I don’t really think so. We have a mastermind leading our search for that speck of talent in a player that will outshine the rest of the Premier League. Hopefully Wenger can be successful in the transfer market and get the players he wishes. This could be the difference for next season, getting in early and getting the biggest talents in the world.
Other clubs have approximately four times the amount of money that Arsenal have. When you read this, you will kind of think: “This is crazy, Arsenal have no chance of competing next year”. But the fact is that they have one of the most intelligent managers searching the globe for talent at good prices, and if you don’t believe in him, just check his record since he came to Arsenal.
He has never gone as high as Manchester United or Chelsea in the market, and look where they sit in the table. Even Liverpool pay more money for players.
We can all say that this transfer market will be led by United, Chelsea and Liverpool, but every season the same thing is said about Arsenal; that they need to insert more money into transfers. But Arsene, with his stubborn attitude, brings himself through this with limited money and every season is in the top four.
If you want examples of who Wenger has bought in recent seasons that have made major impacts, read this:
Bacary Sagna: Well, what can I say? Superb throughout the whole of last season. Cost Arsenal only £7m, which in these days isn’t that much. But look at the impact he had in the season. He brought in a fresh feeling into the club.
Emmanuel Adebayor: This guy had his best season yet, scoring everywhere on the pitch. Bought for around £3m from Monaco, look at what he brought to the team last season. Certainly one we have to look after and keep if we want to challenge for the league.
Is there any need to go deeper? Just two players Arsene signed in recent times who have caused mayhem in other teams.
Wenger surely has the skill to unearth some of the most prestigious players in the world. This is the biggest time of the year for Arsenal - can Arsene be heroic again and uncover another fantastic talent? Or should he look for some stable heads in the team?

of coz aw can unearth gems but how long does it take for them to become really stable and consistent players at least half a season and that is enuff to ruin evrything the past 3 seasons are good example nice football but inconsistent what they've won, nthg arsenal now have enuff young players and shud go for the exp players preferably from EPL too gotta keep the balance of nice football and consistency to win trophies nowadays

Looking through the just concluded season, Arsene managed to come up with a top quality line up for Arsenal (first team) with the best attacking frontline and a wonderous midfield. No one would expect this out of him because he seem not to had put much efforts in getting new player during transfer window but rather lost the BIGGEST name in the club then; THIERRY HENRY who left fans with alot of doubts for title fight. Never-the-less Arsenal produced one of the best shows, with adebayor scoring unexpectedly many goals, beating AC MILAN at San siiro, something that no english side had ever done in history and finishing third spot with just four points behing the champions in premier league. This proved Wenger's talents right. Much has all these happened, the club suffered enough injury that could have been caused by periodic appearence of tha same players i.e. the squad was limited. This is what made Arsenal to get their first lose of the season against Middlesbrough; get four consecutive draws at a very wrong time (eduardo's injury spearheading this) and eventually the major cause of ending the season without any trophy. Wenger should thus look for enough players even if the money is not there, it's better he buys many cheap players if am to say and then convert them into real GUNNING MACHINES... I believe in Wenger!! Thanks

We dont know how much money arsenal have, its obviously not huge, thats only because their still repaying loans that help to build the Emirates stadium. Once those loans are paid we will be able to invest more heavily on players. Remember United and Chelsea are in huge debt, as a club we dont want to be like that.

You should really research your article before writing it. Danny Fizman was interviewed yesterday, and specifically said that there is no SET budget for Arsene Wenger this summer, and that the board have never said no to Wenger over a potential signing and dont intend to now. There was no mention of a figure at all so we can only assume you made that up. If you want to research your article a little better and re-write it - you can find the interview at Arsenal.com

sorry but I have, estimated to be around 25 million!
by PETER GILBERTSON on May 29, 2008
Where do these people that write these stories get their information from, until I hear AW say how much he has got to spend I really do not take any notice, it seems a very small amount when you consider how much surplus revenue he must have on the past dealings.
by don murray on May 29, 2008
fizman has said arsenal never refuse money for arsene for transfer plans so any figure people have is from the press.if arsene wants a player the board supports him.nasri on his way perfect start for rebuilding
by ewan lee on May 29, 2008
The goal is to finish at the top of the league not the 2nd or 3rd. There is no prize for spending the least money to finish 4th. Chelsea sacked their manager for finishing 2nd. Where is Arsenal's ambition? Arsenal fans are a very forgiving and naive bunch. They dont realise the profiteering the board is doing. What a shame
connor harper (29/05/2008 17:57) Comment Quote Report abuse sorry but I have, estimated to be around 25 million! I am cooking dinner for 4 tonight, I will be making chips, I estimate I need 9 medium sized potatoes. Could you explain the basis for your estimate of arsenals summer spending budget please.
by Samuel P on May 29, 2008
ewan lee (29/05/2008 18:17): Yes, Arsenal fans are the 'naive' ones because we back the club making us a financial superpower instead of spunking all our money on powers. So 'naive' of us to support a manager who built a stadium and yet still kept us always in the top 4 doing so (look at Valencia to see how hard a job this is). When people support football teams, they do so for life. And I, for one, understand that for the (relative) failures and penny-pinching of the past couple years (in which the team made the CL final, the CC final and in the premiership race till the last week of the season) we are gonna be in a lot better position to win trophies in the future. And to do it beautifully and in a way that isn't morally questionable. Or I could support Utd's sinking ship (Supposedly Sir Alex wants to spend another 50m this summer. They can't even afford their interest payments, which are of a similar price...) or a morally corrupt playboy's toy like Chelsea or City. Because supporting of one of these teams isn't 'naive'...
by Raley M on May 29, 2008
100% agreed Samuel. I don't get how Sir Alex is still able to spend huge amounts of money every summer when Utd is so deep in debt. Well they have to repay it one day, I'm curious to see if we have another Leeds on our hands..

I am not sure what all the talk of a new striker is about, that will only happen if Ade leaves, which is not going to happen. Wenger has got Vela coming back, and an ever improving Theo, each whom Wenger has said he believes are best suited to playing down the center. Also what annoys me most is that everyone seems to be forgetting about the potentially world class, when fit, RVP!!!!!!! I read on another blog that Nasri is done, Barry we are offering Hoyte and Cash, Dunne has been offer, and that Ben Arfa is only if Hleb leaves or if he becomes available openly (that latter would mean a free for all with the big sides). This is interesting and in some ways I hope it is true. Barry is an Arsenal player possession wise, though I do beleive we will miss Flamini's terrier like displays, in this respect it is ashame Hargreaves is at Man U. What Barry does give though is possession and also more mobility. He would also give good balance to Fabragas. Saying this my personal opinion is that Wenger is hoping to give Denilson and Diaby a chance there. Nasri is simply a Wenger type player, though it seems is a little more direct which is a good sign, as he forcs defenders to commit leaving space in behind. Dunne for me the jury is out on, he is prone to errors, but can be strong and good in the area. An area we are poor in. I would not complain if he came but I feel we could do better. I think also our fans should give Gallas a break, yes his reaction did not help things at Birmingham, but other than that game and FA cup at United he was pretty much solid, and done well surrounded by inexperience. Our main issues was that we move to many defenders about when Sagna got injured , this cause us to lose balance. Sagna is a truly world class right back. The only thing we needed to improve on from last year is in the air, which I think is not s trong point of Aluminia, and many modern keepers for that matter. When we had our first choice back four we did not concede many from open play, though set pieces and crosses were another issue. I do not think Dunne is the answer to this however, as would anyone replace either of our current to first choice, who have strong distrubution and pace? Its a tough one. Personally I think our bigger lose will be a terrier like Flamini who broke up play and his tenacity really set the tone for our play further up the field both on the offense and defense. I hold my hand up that I could be wrong here, as overal our team defended better as a team, but to me the tempo was lost when he did not pay. He was the in your face player that we have been missing. for a few years. I think this is key to our way of play. It will be interesting to see what wenger choses to do here: Barry, Denilison or Diaby, what do people think? I cant see Barry leaving Villa personally. Denilson and Diaby as interesting prospect sthough not sure if they are DMC's though, but hey none of us saw Flamini doing what he did for us this season a year ago!!!! As for Ben Arfa, I can not see Wenger getting him. I have not seen enough of him to build an opinion. The only thing that would make it possible is if Hleb leaves. I feel fans are getting to carried away with statements in the press about Hleb, Ade, Fab, Toure, and RVP. Yes I agree there is no smoke with out firer but it will not all be true, just as half the people we have been lined up are not targets. The issue I have is that sometimes it could do with Wenger or a club official or player for that matter to make a statement. At least half is agents marketing players, others absolute rubbish, and some there could be a certain amount of truth to. Personally I beleive that the Ade & Fab leaving, RVP and Toure complaining are stir mongering, while the players are on international duty. Hleb there could be something there but I beleive the main issue is not being settled in the london area (move out to the country may be???), either way I am not sure he will be the biggest lose, though he is the best player I have seen in a long while in tight situation and sees passes, he needs to score more. Remember people we have a young and developing squad. The next step for which is the charecter test, as we have shown signs of failing here when injuries hit in. The latter I feel had a major affect on us at keys stages, both physicallys and mentally. Phyically by losing keep attacking talent to the Wenger system (Rosicky, he has so much talent if he stay fit), also the world class RVP after a goo start, then there is the true poaching at key time of Eduardo (somthing we have been missing), then turly a world class. The last two were at a key point in any title race, but in combination with the other two the affects were compounded, after that our team chopped and changed a little to much and we turned a bit into a liverpool as there was no consitency. The mentally we did not respond well to this and did not the year before, in this respect I feel it is a make or break season for our youngsters to come of age truly. we have the most talented set in europe, they just need that killer instinct and steel now to go along with the beautiful play. We are standing on the edge of greatness with team, we just need to show our belief in that!!!! Anyway enough of my rant.. My team for next year in a perfect world would be New Keeper (dont think will happen but i beleive we need one) Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy Theo/Hleb Denilson/Diaby/Barry Fabs Rosicky/Nasri (going to take a while to settle) Ade RVP Bench (larger bench this year I hear?): Nordveldt, New defender, Giberto, Vela, Ben Arfa/Hleb, Fabianski, Bentner, Djourou, Randall

i feel that wenger has got most tranfer targets lined up around 5 , 1 striker 1 winger 1 goalkeaper 1 defener and 1 holding midfielder but he wont make them public until the tranfers are 100 % complete plays his very close to chest. wenger has always had around 70 million to spend every year but there is no reason for spend that amount not he spot talent ahs has an extemly vast scouting network, i think he will around 30 million. i must i am suprised by wengers stance on hleb, i would have thought that he let go get at least 12 million, however i think wenger is going make see out his contact untilneds in 2 years. and by that time at 29 he never get a ig conttract at another club. i think wenger let stay in reserves 2 years.
by CONNER HARPER THIS IS THE INTERVIEW FROM ARSENAL LARGEST SHAREHOLDER IS HE A LIAR????? on May 30, 2008
Now we are in the close season, there is much speculation about player signings. Has the manager sufficient funds to bring in the players he requires to enable us to challenge for trophies next season? We have never said no to Arsène so I am sure that, whoever he wishes to bring in, he will be fully supported. Does the manager have a specific budget available? Is there a set amount? There is no set amount. But as I said we have always supported Arsène, we have never said no to him and have no intention of saying no to him. IN YOUR OWN TIME!!!

Connor Harper says we have 25 million ...............Fizman says there is no set figure and we have never said no to Arsene......... Who do we believe??????? CONNOR
i feel that he who they bring in defence wont make difference if some thing is done about oure and gallas. toure is clearly not happy with his treatment by arsenal, i cant say i blame him william gallas has only at arsenal 2 years and he autamically given captain arm band, dispite that fact toure has been there over 7 years, gallas also given a bigger contract than toure and has play out of position accodate gallas as well. from what i have sean of gallas he not a very good captain, but clearly very good defender better that john terry. people are say that we need sell sendoros but tour and gallas have both made mistakes as well. i would give the captaincy to toure or fab, i dont know wenger is going resolvre this but toure is happy at all and if its stays the same next season toure will reconcider his position at the club

, you have won nothing for four seasons now, facts are facts since chelsea started playing fantacy football every year, the stakes have gone up, arsneal could well loose flamini (free) hleb (5 mil) and adebayor (5 mil) for about 10 million because you wait to long to increase salarys and lock in fees. twenty five million is not eough, you arenow looking at players like ben arfa and veloso those players will cost 30 lillion on their own, and thats onwe less then the small squad they had last year. you want to win something you need to spend more monry 60 mil on 5 players will give you a chance, with every club spending ££££ on players teams from abroad can smell premier league money gems will come more and more hardr to find
