Dreamtime for Tottenham's Hutton - but it's gloom time for Scots in the Premier League
In the good old days you could make up a team of Scots playing in the English top flight with consummate ease. These days you are left scratching around for a few extras from the set of Braveheart.

A team of Scots from the English top flight not so many years ago would have been simple. In fact, with Graeme Souness, Kenny Dalglish, Alan Hansen et al you could probably have pretty much filled out a 22-man squad, any one of which would walk into George Burley's team in Prague tomorrow.Scots are now so few and far between in England that picking a side is difficult. I was tempted to pick James Morrison to shore up the midfield but as he played for West Brom last season and has still to play for Scotland, I had to rule him out.The team lines up in a fluid 4-3-3 formation (fluid because they'll all have to spend most of the game defending).'Russell Anderson: Played one game for Sunderland. Gave away a penalty. Three places in and I'm that desperate'Craig Gordon: Struggled a bit for Sunderland although I think there are some pretty strong arguments in mitigation. Firstly, because of his experience and his service for Scotland we forget how young he is. His tender years couldn't have helped him cope with the second problem, the price tag which, although justified, heaped a whole lot of pressure on him. Thirdly he was keeper for a team that spent a great deal of the season struggling. And finally he admitted himself that he found the difference in quality quite surprising. But he survived, and Sunderland survived. Expect great things in the future.Alan Hutton: Another big-money buy who has ably acquitted himself since January. His transformation from struggling Ranger to Scotland hero and Spurs star is quite incredible. Truly the stuff that dreams are made of. An inspiration to young boys and Kirk Broadfoots everywhere.Russell Anderson: Played one game for Sunderland. Gave away a penalty. Three places in and I'm that desperate!

I'm assuming you're English or does that count as personal abuse? How about we drop the idea that only if you play in England are you any good because all of England's National side play in England and, well, your national side haven't exactly set the World alight in recent years. Yes, some of the players you've picked there are donkeys, but what about the players actually in Scotland? Yes, the Scottish League is pretty rank on quality, but the Old Firm (particularly Rangers) and Aberdeen still acquitted themselves well on the European stage against much better opposition than the bulk of Premiership sides. What about McManus, Brown and Hartley at Celtic? What about Ferguson, Boyd, McGregor and Weir at Rangers. Bottom line is that this article is typical lazy English journalism - have a pop at the Jocks without bothering to get the full facts. Disappointing.

Sorry mate, not English but Scottish. The point of the article was to highlight the dearth of Scots now playing in the English top flight compared to a few years ago. At no point do I suggest that should be Scotland's national 11. I'd be delighted if a few of these players never pulled on a Scotland jersey again. And I'm perfectly well aware of the Scottish players playing in Scotland.

This is not an English site but an out and out Ar5ena1 (Gooner) site. as normal Finger up the bum and mind in neutral. This site is a waste of time. What it knows about football could be written on the back of a stamp.
was just about to say the same as noah spur,it isn't an anti scottish thing ,this site constantly comes up with bull headlines etc mainly cussing Tottenham,so just chill! its good you are proud of you're league.
Can't speak for the site but I'm certainly not pro Arsenal myself.

I dont think this article was meant as an anti-SPL rant guys, think the author was just highlighting the fact that back in the 70's and 80's England was flooded with an abundance of Scottish players and now there are only a few. Scotland as a footballing nation are back on the up and I am happy about this, maybe now we can get the old England/Scotland rivalry going strong again :) I love Alan Hutton since he came to Spurs. He's been a breath of fresh air to us and to the Scottish national side, most notably, in the last minute heartbreaking defeat to the Italians where i thought the jocko's deserved much more! Darren Fletcher is another player i think on his day is as good as anyone and Fergie seems to agree and I think it's fair to say that he knows what he's talking about... Except Wes Brown
