As if Sir Alex Ferguson needs any more talent at Old Trafford...but in case he finds the cupboard bare, here are three players to size up:

Daniel Alves - With Gary Neville’s continued injury problems and Gerard Pique’s sale leaving Wes Brown as the only real alternative to Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at centre-back, a right- back should be a must-have for Sir Alex in this summer’s window and Sevilla’s Daniel Alves certainly fits the bill.

'John Toshack warned Ramsey this week that a move to a big club at his age could seriously stunt his growth'

Alves was on the verge of a move to Stamford Bridge last summer before the transfer fell through and the club eventually plumped for Juliano Belletti. The 25-year old has been one of the most consistent players in La Liga in recent years and now has 14 Brazilian caps to his name. The fans love Alves’ work ethic, pace and bravery but it is public knowledge that he would happily leave Sevilla. Despite this, the club have set a very high asking price but that might not put off Manchester United.

Aaron Ramsey – Probably the most likely signing of these three players, 17-year old Ramsey has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks. Sir Alex is said to be a huge fan of the young Welshman and many are tipping Ramsey as a long-term replacement for Paul Scholes. It is thought that Ferguson loaned Cardiff City his young shot-stopper Tom Heaton for next season to sweeten up the Bluebirds for any future bid for their young future superstar.

Ramsey's national boss John Toshack warned him this week that a move to a big club at his age could seriously stunt his growth if he ends up playing reserve football and the odd Carling Cup run out next season. Press reports have said how Manchester United plan to sign Ramsey before loaning him back to Ninian Park for next season, which could be a deal that suits all parties if the price is right.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar – ‘The Hunter’ could well be the striker that the Manchester United squad needs with the expected departure of Louis Saha. A proven hitman in recent years, I believe Huntelaar would be a huge hit at Old Trafford. His goalscoring record in recent years speaks for itself; he has scored a phenomenal 96 goals in just 113 starts for Ajax including being the ‘World’s Top Division Goalscorer’ in the 2005-6 campaign.

But if Fergie is going to sign the Dutchman for next season he might want to move swiftly. A few impressive performances and goals in Euro 2008 and his price might double. Ajax’s failure to qualify for the Champions League could persuade the forward to leave Holland but manager Marco Van Basten might well have something to say about that.
