Let Cristiano Ronaldo and Frank Lampard go! They are not bigger than their clubs and at least it might stop us hearing any more about Frankie boy doing it for his dear departed mother.

Sir Alex Ferguson is definitely panicking and thinks there is a lot of substance in Real Madrid's approach for his Manchester United star.

Forty-plus goals last season, two top winners' medals and all the rest was bound to attract attention and it wouldn't be a surprise if Ronaldo did go to Spain or one of the other big European clubs.

But like a lot of the greedy, self-loving Premier League footballers of today, Ronaldo has simply exposed himself as a sneaky, sneering, Portuguese show pony. Only days ago he was live on TV saying "I stay" when asked whether he was going to leave Manchester United.

Now he says he is going to tell us his decision in a few more days.

Let him go. I for one would not shed a single tear.

As for Chelsea's Lampard, he will be past his sell-by date in a year or two, so fair enough, he is looking to cash in.

Inter and a reunion with Jose Mourinho seems on the cards. Lampard was such a waste of space for England against the USA last Wednesday that maybe he had other things on his mind ... like teaming up with his darling Special One again.

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes is being touted all over the place at the moment for a top managerial position and Chelsea and Manchester City are mentioned.

City could be the one, but don't be surprised if Sparky suddenly decides they are not quite big enough and stays put until a better offer emerges. Coincidentally, I'm sure, Fergie has promised to finally sling his hook after two more seasons at Old Trafford.

And who in their right mind would want to work for Thaksin Shinawatra?
