The number of Football players in the Premier League available for England selection often comes under scrutiny when the national side has suffered a heavy loss. Critics claim that the presence of so many foreign players is destroying English football. With a lower percentage of players England-qualified, it is easy to say that it is lack of choice that has undone many an international campaign. But is it really? The Premier League has attracted some of the best players in the world and quality is high, meaning the England-qualified players that do play are pushed and challenged to the same high quality. ‘If clubs are forced to play a certain number of English players, particularly if that number is high, the quality of football may drop and that is something that should be avoided’If clubs are forced to play a certain number of English players, particularly if that number is high, the quality of football may drop and that is something that should be avoided if the FA really wants to improve English football.Of course, you could argue that the players who would be introduced under such a scheme would gain match experience at a higher level in order to improve enough to have made the team originally – it is just the opportunities that are needed. But is it really fair to select someone because of their nationality, English or not?More English players in the league would be a positive thing for the national side, but clubs being forced to play them is not the answer. Footballers should be chosen on talent, not nationality and any scheme to include more English players would have to work from the ground up.

Yeah, because banning foreigners will make England just as successful as they were between 1966 & 1990... Ohh... OOOPS!

Unfortunately I am old enough to remember the days prior to the premiership when our football was considered second best to that of our continental cousins. at that which time it was thought that having more so called continentals ply their trade here would benefit our lads!

The 6+5 rule will mean the French and Dutch leagues, possibly even the Portuguese will overtake the EPL. Don't believe me? Look at all the top leagues in Europe and all the top teams, they all have players that came from the Dutch, Portuguese or French leagues, no one has a single English player, if all these players are forced to return to their home leagues then that is also where the viewers, ratings and money will go. England can't have it both ways, especially with the pathetic youth system they have.

I don't suppose the lack of talented English footballers coming through the ranks would be anything to do with New Labour selling off school playing field and pitches and making " competetive" sports at primary school a complete no go. It wouldn't be anything to do with the diet of pies burgers chips and beer predominant in this country, and also nothing to do with fact that almost zero English players move abroad to play. No you're right it's all Franco Zola and Ronaldos fault, where are more of those Joey Bartons that will make England world champions?
that must be the lamest rule iv ever heard and that goes goes against the UN's rules. English players don't deserve to be put into football if they are not good enough, whats the use? A bit of coaching won't make them that much better, good football players are born with a talent even though hard work does make them abit better for some people no matter how hard they work their football dreams won't come true because they don't have the talent. I think the day when England is one of the best internationals will come again but England can't force it through from making it a rule that mor enlighs players must play.

"The 6+5 rule will mean the French and Dutch leagues, possibly even the Portuguese will overtake the EPL....not one has a single English player" Tell me Einstein, could that possibly be because English players don't want to play in an inferior league on a tenth of the pay? "Unfortunately I am old enough to remember the days prior to the premiership when our football was considered second best to that of our continental cousins." Would that be between 75 and 85 when English teams dominated Europe? Looks like UEFA are looking for another way to shaft us again. It's funny, because when asked disinterested foreigners like Cruyff, Bilic, Gullit and Ginola are sure foreigners are blocking English players. But you all know better..

how about going to germany, italy or spain? Or are they too inferior for the all the English players, do they not pay enough? The likes of Fabregas, Garrido were willing to leave their clubs to take a chance, how many English players can we say the same about? As for crap Englishmen it has more to do with a crap youth system, France has a great one, the Dutch and Portugese constantly develop players, so do the Spanish and Italian, and they can afford to play local players instead of foreign ones because they are of good enough quality, can you honestly say the same for the English kids? As for the 6+5 rule it will give English players the opportunity to play in their English teams, however the quality of the league will suffer, so will the bank balance, and the ratings, and the English national team wont benefit. Redknapp is on the verge of sacking 4 young English players who got drunk and acted like fools after the FA cup win. He added about the English players that 'once they're in they stop trying, they don't work and they think they've made it, you don't get that with the foreign lads.' This 6+5 will only mean you will get donkeys like Hoyte instead of Sagna, Sidwell instead of Fabregas, Eagles instead of Ronaldo, Carlton Cole instead of Drogba, Crouch instead of Torres.

How many times have England got to the knockout stages of a major tournament only to get knocked out by the eventual winners via a penalty shootout, as well as winning the world cup. Compare that to Spain, who are considered world class but have never done anything! Its only recently England have become a non-major force in world football courtesy of clubs like Arsenals greed and ignorance! funny how the majority of people kicking up a stink are gooners! Arsenal FC R.I.P, HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

The plan was to implement the rule in three stages 4+7 in 2010; 5+6 in 2011 and 6+5 in 2012 but the rule is rated illigal by the European Union. I'm getting tired of Platini. He should learn to think and research before talking...
