As the 2007-08 season ended, you would have been forgiven for thinking that the back pages and news reports would have been dominated with the fantastic European championships that we have been privileged to witness.
However, the one football story that has dominated the media is the great Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga.
The media's misleading perception of the story singles out Manchester United as the GOOD, Real Madrid as the BAD and Ronaldo as the UGLY; I, on the other hand, view this in quite a different manner.
Manchester United have shown themselves to be quite hypocritical by lodging an official complaint to FIFA regarding Real Madrid's continued courting of the winger. It seems that United feel they have been treated unlawfully by the Spanish giants and they totally disagree with Real's methods of using the media to unsettle their star asset.
This leads me to believe that the Manchester United hierarchy must suffer from a dose of contagious memory loss. Because if there’s one team in the Premier League that are the kings of using this method to sign the players they desire, it must be the Old Trafford outfit!
We don’t have to stretch our memories back too far to find classic examples of United using this approach; Michael Carrick was sounded out using the press during the 2006 World Cup, and when the midfielder returned to Spurs he promptly asked for the move. Other examples include Wayne Rooney, Owen Hargreaves and more recently it seems the same method is being used to unsettle Premier League stars Roque Santa Cruz and Dimitar Berbatov.
So is it a case of Manchester United not liking the taste of the medicine they are so willing to dish out? Or do they feel they have the rights to any player they desire?
One thing for sure, if Ronaldo does end up signing for Madrid it might make United rethink their transfer policy. But then again, probably not.

Cant say its not the truth!! But just watch the Man U fans try and deny it! and give you a thumbs down! But then again what else would you expect from them! Good article

This is just lazy, inaccurate and pointlessly anti-United rubbish. In the case of Carrick and Hargreaves, it was Spurs and Bayern who who publicly commented on the interest from United, United moved for Rooney after Newcastle had publicly bid for him and nobody from United has made any comment on Berbatov or Santa Cruz, the latter has only been discussed publicly by the player himself and Ince since he took over at Blackburn.

I know where you are coming from , but right now you have nothing to prove you stance. Its just a case of you being bitter and pouncing on the slightest of opportunities to lambast United for whatever hatred you may have. In which planet do you find United's unofficial paper printing quotes of Berbatov , or Santa saying "I want to may my dream move?" Or I don't think any of Uniteds players have come out and said they may be a great addition to our squad and yada yada which almost every Real player has done. Neither they bring up bullshit stories of them swapping one of our best players (say Rooney , Tevez , or Nani) and cash to land their targets. Neither do they go and interview all the members of their family . The Hargreaves saga was completely different the player wanted to move and if my memory stands correct , he also handed in a transfer request. And Bayern were holding out for money , which mean they were ready to sell. Rooney? You've got to be kidding me , He had agreed a move to St.James Park after his fallout with Moyes. On the last day United made a bid for him and its no rocket science that a player would obviously choose United over troubled Toons. whilst I am no United fan either , I guess doing transfers the wrong way has now become common. Almost every club first speaks to the player and the club. But here we are talking about Real , who are now not so surprisingly publicly supported by that thickhead Platini. They have just taken one step too far , I reckon.

the originator of this article can only be one of two possible types - downright bigotted or downright stupid. Quite possibly both. When will you all understand this fundamental fact - that United fans the world over care for one thing and one alone - the Football Club which the sporting gods have chosen as the favoured amongst the favoured. We are the biggest, the best and the most beautiful, and could not give a gorilla's flea what the rest of you think about our glorious club. Anyways, talking of crass hypocrisy, since when have fans in the UK cared for Ronaldo? Have you not all been rabid in trying to force him out; opposing fans and media alike? Or not? Since day one you have never liked Ronaldo and now that United have nurtured him into the wondrous talent he has become, and winning everything there is to win in England and Europe, now suddenly his possible departure also provides you lot with an opinion. Give us a break !! Qet a life !! Or better still, end your miserable existences and fade into obscurity forever. UNITED forever and ever, Amen .........

In the cases you mention for conveniently forget that Manchester United actually lodged a bid the club may have been rebuffed but an offer was on the table, where is Real’s offer? There is not one as they cannot afford any new players rumour has it they are in serious financial trouble and are using this transfer saga as a smoke screen during the summer and will say Ronaldo was their main target but they missed out thereby spending not a penny this summer.

Real Madrid have done nothing, that Man U wouldnt do themselves! they just dont like the fact that the shoes on the other foot! the diference is that Man u have mastered the art, and get things in the press sneekingly, or is it by coinsidence that Man U would be linked with Carrick, Rooney Hargreves ECT and later buy them monthes down the line? JUST ADMIT IT UNITED FANS!
by Mr Madrid on June 28, 2008
Its his dream to play for us!! Just accept it Manchester, Reporting us was out of bitterness, as you can tell by the report being thrown out! Manchester use the same aproach to get their players! they just do it better. Good article tells the truth

So what Real do is what United have been doing? There's been around one mention of Ronaldo every two days by Madrid. Carrick and Hargreaves were the ones who spoke of United not United themselves, the way we do it is just the way we did with Anderson and Nani, if the player speaks out that's just them but the club rarely does so, unlike Madrid. How many times do they have to say they've nothing to say about him yet they're the only people that talk about him. As for the writer of the article, you'd be a fool to suggest we do business the way Madrid do, if you're a Liverpool fan just look at the Barry situation, that's as close to Madrid style transfer pursuits as any English club comes close to.

Slap your self Real fans , alright its you club abd you are supposed to defend it. But do it in a way that at least seeming sounds rational. A real fans comes in saying they have done nothing? ffs , last season it was Kaka , now its Ronaldo and I am sure next season it will be someone else. You've always done it. And I am sure it will go on and on. Good that the German legend gave a earful. Oh just above there many people have written about how Rooney , Carrick , Hargeaves situation is completely different. There are only two ways to piss someone off , that either by your wit or by going on repeating retarded crap over and over again.(PS: Do assume the later) I'd absolutely fucking hate it if Nail Quinn went on as desperate as a hungry dog like Roman Calderon is doing right. He scraped through the elections last time and to win next time he has to buy Ronaldo. The truth is that you don't have money to buy Ronaldo , funny how 100 million slowly came down to 60.

Go on then, show us an example of United ordering a company car, identifying how they would play him, what he would be earning, etc. Oh, wait, you can't. Every club identifies targets and clubs often go public with bids that they have turned down; they are also leaked by agents who obviously stand to make a considerable amount of money out of any move. Indeed it is in the interest of the agents to make sure that the move happens. I believe £10m is the fee that Ronaldo's parasite, erm I mean agent, stands to earn. But yes, United are the good guys in this one.

Before you write a comment on any situation, you should get your facts right! You are clearly, not a Manchester United fan.Real were accused of using the papers to manufacture a Real transfer for Ronaldo. The Spanish papers have been reporting alot of dreamed up situations and attributing it to "sources close to Ronaldo".Manchester United have NEVER done anything like it.They do say they want a player, when in fact they do want that player,as in the Hargreaves transfer, but they didn't make up stories.Bayern Munich have recently gone public with there support of United in this Ronaldo saga with Real.Which clearly shows that they have no hard feeling with United's conduct in past transfers. So don't say that United conduct themselves in the same manner as Real!

At least United isn't government subsidized. Go to FORBES.com and see who the CLUB OF CLUB is ... Manchester United, then the Dallas Cowboys of Americas NFL ... Real Madrid is FOURTH ... So when you speak of jealousy are you really talking to us? MANCHESTER UNTIED
