Tottenham have been by far the busiest club in the transfer market this summer, already signing five players, three of whom – Luka Modric, Giovani Dos Santos and Heurelho Gomes – will go straight into the first team. So who will make the biggest impact next season? Well Juande Ramos's signings have surprised most fans, not just those of Spurs, but all of them have made big impressions with their former clubs. And from what I have seen of them, they all look like good buys.

Firstly, we have Modric, formerly of Dinamo Zagreb. Before Euro 2008, I only saw him play against England in the qualifiers, but watching the Euros, he has been brilliant – he may be small, but he doesn't go down easily and if he does it take a lot of effort. I thought he was an attacking midfielder, but he has been playing more of a holding role. In Croatia’s first game, we saw him score a penalty within four minutes of the kick-off. He was consistent throughout the tournament and was undoubtedly Croatia’s best player. One thing, though – he only really performs in certain patches of the game and seems to be a bit quiet for stretches, but he made a great impression on all Spurs fans. It was a good deal as his price would have gone up by about £10million after the tournament.

Secondly, Dos Santos. Bought for a very good price of £4.7million, he is one of the stars of the future, according to many people, but is he really the bee’s knees? He only joined Barcelona’s first team last season, scoring three goals – all on the same day, the final game of the season, a 5-3 win for Barca. We haven't been able to see much of Dos Santos apart from on video websites so we don’t know if he will turn out to be a goody buy.

Finally, the newest edition to the squad is Gomes. The PSV keeper knocked us out of the UEFA Cup last season. Some Spurs fans believe this is the wrong decision and believe that he flaps about. He may do this, but with PSV he has a great record and some people don't realise what he has achieved.

He was a true fans’ favourite with the current Dutch champions and a lot of people have told me that, if you ask PSV fans who won them the league last season, they will tell you Gomes. He is truly loved by their fans and I saw some pictures of PSV’s website where the fans greeted Gomes with flowers on his birthday, and you don't see that happening with many players.

If you don't already know here are some records he has with PSV… He kept a clean sheet in 60 per cent of his Eredivisie matches. No other goalie has ever achieved that. In his first season, Gomes didn't concede a goal in 971 minutes. In the same season, Gomes had another goalless streak. This time he didn't concede in 817 minutes. In his third season, 2006-2007, he again had a notable streak – Gomes didn't concede in 956 minutes, which eventually played a huge part in PSV's surprise championship title.

PSV won the 2006-07 title after having the same amount of points as Ajax, but they finished top due to a better goal difference (+50, against +49 for Ajax). Even though those were very impressive stints, it wasn't enough to break the record of Heinz Stuy, who set the record for blank sheets in 1971 with 1,082 minutes. Gomes did set one record, though. In the 2007-08 season, he kept a clean sheet in his first five games.

So who will make the biggest impact? And what will they do to prove themselves? Or will someone else come in and make an impact? For Spurs fans, it promises to be an exciting season.
